I just bought a 2021 Roll Sport yesterday. The shop is assembling it and I'll pick it up tomorrow. Can't wait. After practically zero exercise for two years due to surgery I'm ready to start toning the muscles and cardio. I'm 67 years old and this bike has the seating position I want, the wider tires for stability, enough gears to tackle anything I'm likely to encounter, and it's just a sharp looking bike. I got it in the Redwood color, which is quite flash! So looking forward to tomorrow!
that's awesome!!! congratulations and you are going to love it, I have one myself too and its the perfect bike for comfort riding but easy to get it up to speed and hold it. I love it and im happy your doing better with the recovery for surgery hopefully this helps you too :))
At 67 also, the Roll is my first "premium" bike out of the 15 I've had in the last 61 years. They told me it's a 2021 but it's geared at 3X7. Still, the bike is great... kinda deceptive because I feel like I can ride it like I could 20 years ago....lol
It’s not a girls bike. It’s a unisex. If you refer to it as a girls bike you will have less sales. I bought the 2020 version and love it. The salesperson said they sell more of this bike to men then women. I would not have bought bike if it was a girls bike.
I bought this bike in 2018 as a senior I got tired of tripping when I dismount so it's not just for women. I've really enjoy riding it, I've taken 50 mile day trips. Its really comfortable I ride around mission bay, into downtown San Diego, everywhere, it takes hill real good. Just one piece of good advice up grade the tubes & tires, the one that come with the bike are useless. Nothing against the company, it's been my bike life experience all manufacturers put on the cheap tubes & tires.
that is awesome, this bike is such a nice all around bike and who cares about the frame, they do such a nice job of allowing people to get on and off the bike easily with zero effort, asd loong as it works for you, thats all that matters
I also got the low entry model. I'm 70 years old and it's much easier to get on and off. Look at the Dutch people, most of their bikes are similar to this. I see you're from San Diego, born and raised there
I got the 2020 Roll Low Sport in all black, I Love this bike! I'm a big guy and can definitely put some miles on this bike, usually 8 miles per ride. Only issue is the bike was literally all black with barely any reflectors, also tires did not have any reflectors. Spent a few hours and painted the rims and pedals white and put a few lights on it now I am loving it. Definitely would recommend this bike!
Heck yeah I'm about that step through life now at least for one of my errand bike because I get groceries on my bike, and its uncomfortable trying to get my leg over the basket on the back of my bike with heavy groceries. Lol I am not a flexible dude. Saw a version of this on CL with a back rack so now researching this bike. Thx for your review!
I agree. I’ve always had a “male” frame but I think it’s stupid. Should be more marketed like “Two triangles=more strength less weight, rear triangle and mixte= more convenience.”
At 4;16.. I have to say, as a Male in my 50's with hip and knee issues/surgery. The womens frame is perfect for me to get on and off with. I would by a black one and get on with life. They should just call this a uni sex frame because I am Sure that I am not alone with my physical issues. Good review btw :)
My wife owns both a Townie single speed and a Roll Low 1X7 and still goes out on both and always loves riding them! She won’t part with her Townie just to be able to get others to come ride she shares it with friends!
Yea that’s where I will give it to the townie..... the one size fits all, such a nice feature, I have a roll and townie and my wife has a townie. I just like the roll because it’s specialize
I have the Specialized roll and its comfortable, I love it. However the wide tires do slow you down. If your looking for speed and distance this is not your bike. However for fun and comfort it's great.
How does the Roll deal with heavier riders. I weigh 270 pounds and had trouble with things breaking on the TREK Verve 2 Lowstep I'd purchased. The shaft on the suspension seat post was the first to go, followed by the seat breaking and then spokes on the rear wheel started snapping. Eventually I got the issues with that bike sorted out, BUT I was never as satisfied with the bike as I was with my Electra Townie 7D which was able to support my weight with little trouble.
yes this is very true, but It is labeled as a womans model even though I think they should just call it a step through model, makes more sense for guys to get this model anyways lol
Maybe enough bike shop owners can start communicating to the manufacturers? Just ask “Do women who are professional cycling racers ride step through frames?”
The color is listed as Gloss Oasis/Forest green. It looks mint and black to me. Are the accents actually dark green? What about the thread accent on the seat?
very nice I have that same color as well and my wife has the same bike too... its very nice for cruising with the family but also getting some exercise
I love this Sport Roll because of the suspension seat post. I actually care less for the disc brakes and extra gear in the front. So I may consider this and not the regular Roll Thanks great review and bike...shame it is out of stock at this time in July 2021
I have a 2021 sport (at least by price) and it's geared 3X7 not 2X7 like your example... not complaining just wondering how that happened? And, oh yes... I'm under the impression that you would choose a step-thru if you've configured for cargo and slinging your leg over the back isn't practical.
so for the 2021 models they got rid of the 3x and went 2x for the convience and less gears, and asloi yes that makes sense. step thru would make it easier
I never installed one on there but i think I recall a tim ewhere someone brought one in and we had a lot of trouble because of how low the bik was and the tires being a 27.5 just get the topeak seat I hjave it for my kid and it works amaizng and it comes on and off really easy, I used it for my 6 month old all the way too 3 and half and i used it one time for a lightweight 5 year old just make sure if your buying it make sure you get it for disc brakes or rim brakes depending on the model www.rei.com/product/183817/topeak-babyseat-ii-rack-non-disc?CAWELAID=120217890010694271&CAGPSPN=pla&CAAGID=100415932465&CATCI=pla-452552824922&cm_mmc=PLA_Google%7C21700000001700551_1838170001%7C92700053582173394%7CTOF%7C71700000066832423&gclid=Cj0KCQjwraqHBhDsARIsAKuGZeFx3Oljq4grXgNGB2sRnxuSYqD9I6_pBlj1vdMxiljgk4U6QxI_kZsaAvL4EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
can anyone compare this to the Jamis Hudson? I rode a friend's (Jamis) and loved it - but can't get. My local bike shop has one of these - is it comparable?
I dont know the jamis but this bike is very nice and I have one personally and its easy to ride and cruise and also has the bigger wheels and makes it easier to ride further differences
The dark purple looked good but so does the blue. Any color is really nice and she’s going to love it. I have one for me and the wife and there perfect!!! Easy cruising bikes 😁
The reason "step through" bikes are classically considered Womens bikes is because it enables them to ride a bike while wearing a dress. Something I learned recently.
Actually told this and you're supposed to be an expert this is not designed for women this bike is unisex for men or women with mobility issues plus I never understood what the big deal was why a man would want a bar underneath his you-know-what this is not a girl's bike it's a man or woman's bike
Well for somebody don’t know nothing about bikes that’s also men’s bike because men have issues physical issues of getting on and off of a bike Trek !! Yes Trek makes a great step through bike !!!! They don’t try to advertise it and play it off men’s bike or ladies bike it’s for everyone really if you have some kind of physical issue of getting on and off of bike by raising your leg to get over a bar to get on a bike that’s what the steps are us for no matter if you’re a man or woman come on get your stuff straight !!!!
yea for sure I mean in europe that style is considered unisex but over here for some reason its oconsidered female but I know pleanty of guys who bought this model for the ease to get on and off it
@@GCPerformance18 I had a back injury an was told Trek $ 669.00 Verb 2 makes a low step bike !! Makes it easy on & off for myself a man !! I have one ordered from Trek !!
