Looking forward to this comparison. I have the SL8 pro and absolutely love it! 7.2kg (52) with Ultegra di2 including pedals, bottle cages, deep dish wheels and out front mount.
@@CyclespeedTours joking aside if you've plenty of money and simply love the sport which we do then enjoy what you can but regarding performance it isn't gonna do jack.
@@madplanet3351 It's my passion and hobby and I'm an engineer that enjoys the technical aspect, so if it makes me happy.....! And I think I can feel 1/2 kg on the bike. Maybe I'm deluded?!
500g will make a difference! On a cliimb for sure. I love cycling and I love a new bike. Love the SL8 cannot wait to get it out to Majorca in 8 weeks for the 312 err well the 225 lol😂 Oh and not forgetting the additional 4kgs I need to shift aswell 😂
Maybe some criticize you for going with SL8, I applaud you for it! Ostro is a beautiful bike for sure but Tarmac SL8 is a stunning one in my opinion. Liking climbs as you do, Tarmac SL8 is a great choice. Well done!
Great video but you compare the weight of an non painted sworks SL8 frame with a white painted Ostro vam 2 frame. Obvious that the difference is that big because white color is the haviest paintjob there is. You should compare it with the black chrome to get a sort of correct difference in weight. And even then the comparision is not 100 percent correct because the chrome black has a layer of gloss on it. That is not on the sworks if i'm correct. Keep up shooting those video's 🙂
True, but nonetheless, the point is that the Ostro has got heavier, whichever way you cut it. Perhaps that (small) increase is worth it for the aero gains. Not sure how they do it, but the painted Sworks do not way so much more than my naked one.
well since the aero benefits only come from the roval rapid handlebar i stick with my Sworks SL7 with the Roval Rapid on it... it looks much more aero und cooler! and has not ugly bulb aka sniffer
A general consensus about Tarmacs after the Venge V3 was that these SL7’s and SL8’s are rather “easy” to get along with. Words like “boring”, “tame”, “predictable”, “vanilla” all comes to mind. Could you please confirm once you start riding them 🙏 I like an extreme bike like the Aethos which prioritises on comfort. My buddy who’s good at sprinting [good enough to win a greeen jersey at L’Etape (by TdF)] said “he’d hate to sprint on an Aethos”. Is it true the SL7 and SL8 both aren’t an extreme bike? I am already riding an Orbea Orca Gen.6. It’s zippy and may be considered as an all rounder in terms of comfort, weight and aero. Not to keen to part away with my money on another bike that’s rather similar to what I already have. Cheers
Darimo is a disaster at the moment. I ordered the SL8 seatposts 11 weeks ago and I was quoted 8 weeks. I still have not received it. They are also not responding to emails.
Sorry to hear that, from my experience also, answering customers is not their strong point...I actually offered to invest in the company 2 years ago but they turned me down. I don't understand why they can't scale up production...?
Darimo seem to have gone down hill will estimated dates, quality and basic customer service. I got my post last year and I think 6 weeks quoted took something like 10 weeks and the Di2 battery clip holes were too high and to file them out. I believe Gemini are developing stuff for the SL8 from what I have read.
And the comment that no one does it better Time RTM technology dwarfs the basic Carbon technology specialized uses .The Time Scylon is far beyond the Specialized and the Look 795 Blade rs blasts the Specialized sl7/8
In the part where are you going off about the fact that the frame set weighs just sixhundredwhatever grams you say it's the weight of the frame set, which is just wrong.
Congrats! What's on the shopping List, are you transferring most components from the Ostro? Amy new wheelset in mind?! Cant wait to see your build! Btw how much $$$ was the frameset?!
What is amazing is the price you pay for an off the peg S Works frame - when you could go out and get a beautiful custom Formigli or Sarto etc. Where you and the frame maker can dial in the carbon and achieve your ultimate frame. The S Works does nothing for me i'm afraid, the Factor Ostro still looks so much better. The S Works just looks like another far east carbon frame. All for the sake of saving a little bit of weight. Anyhow, how's the Ducati, have you still got it ?
Sure, it's expensive, but hopefully I can sell the Ostro for a good price, and if I can't then I'll keep it and have it as my 'aero bike'. I can see myself going down the road of a custom carbon (or Ti) bike at some point, but not yet, I'm still fast enough to enjoy the cutting edge of what can be done today, although not for much longer I suspect! (I'm 53....) Still got the Hypermotard 950, but I don't get to ride it much, because there's the RS4 and a Vespa to get around town on too!
Nice frame for sure. I find it hard to believe the new SL8 if more aero than that Ostro. Doesn't SPESH claim it is one, if not the most aero road bike out there?
@@CyclespeedTours Nice bike to say the least. But it kills me with their bogus marketing stuff. I agree with you, unless it's for TT purposes Aero does not matter for us mortals.
You're right. I scoured Europe for one, and everyone was out, except for one weird pink colour. I eventually found mine in a shop in Extremadura, Spain. They have 1 more, if you're interested......
I'm no big fan of disc brakes, but there isn't so much of a weight penalty anymore. Pro teams like Bora don't seem to be complaining about flimsiness...?
