Elizabeth Long is an expert in Butterflies and we caught up with her to discuss her current research on the California Ringlet.
Long is a biologist with a particular interest in adaptive evolution, mimicry in butterflies, and ecological and evolutionary genetics. I live in the Los Angeles area as of August of 2014. I will work as a postdoctoral fellow at the LA Natural History Museum and the UCLA La Kretz Center for California Conservation Science. Much of my time is spent surveying butterfly communities in the Santa Monica Mountains and also in urban LA via the museum’s BioSCAN project. In my studies I use a combination of field work, genetics/genomics techniques, and experimental approaches.
