Honduran Milks regularly reach 6 feet most of the time based on the breeders that I talked to. I own 3: 1 Female Albino Tangerine, 1 Male Anery & a Female Tricolor (triple het for hypo albino and anery). It's also good to give them some vertical space because they are semi arboreal. I'd definitely recommend brooski if you like these guys.

Yeah as far as size, from being around many colubrids especially kings all over my area, they do love to move around often, larger enclosures the better.

Love your vids, I worry when we say "absolute monsters" about the larger species we can scare ppl away as they may think we mean big long girthy snakes like big boas or pythons. I want rookies to know they can get long, like 6 to 8 feet, but the girth, combined with even that length is a very medium sized snake. Not trying to nitpick and no disrespect.

In all my 30 something years keeping and breeding reptiles, i never kept milk snakes, other than size, would you say the honduran makes a better pet than a pueblan.............as far as biting itself, musking, biting ppl and all that?
@JzsReptiles
@JzsReptiles 7 месяцев назад
Personally I can’t attest as I have never kept a pueblan but of the milks I have kept, the least spazzy is the black then Honduran. My Nelson’s and “pet store” which typically are Nelson, pueblan and other crosses are about the same and flightier

Questions… I’ve had a albino Honduran in my office for 4 years. I got her as a hatchling & she is a display pet. The pet shop near my house got a male 3ft ish regular Honduran and it sat there for months with a $300 price tag on it. I felt sorry for him - but no way was I spending that kind of money to rescue him. Well, luck came my way in the form of 3 free hatchling corn snakes. SO I asked the pet shop if they would trade some baby corns for their long term guest male Honduran… win / win :) They did an even swap - they sold those corns so fast it was ridiculous. So for a year I’ve had a pair of adult hondurans. I cool led them off just a little this winter and I was HOPING they might breed. But when I put them together - the male just freaks out and causes such a ruckus that I don’t know what to do different. He act’s completely terrified of her. She is as chilled as anything and curiously crawls all around him - but he acts like he is gonna die. Any help, suggestions, or advice would be cool. I know how to deal with the eggs. I’ve hatched wild snakes and turtle eggs for fun and just released the babies. Thanks for any help

I just watched your video on Honduran milk snakes I enjoyed it. I do have a question I’ve been wanting to start getting into milkshakes and king snakes but I feel bad putting them in tubs are there any articles that say they are better off in tubs that some bigger pvc cages?
@JzsReptiles
@JzsReptiles 3 года назад
Tubs (for the most part) are really for our ease. They’re easy to maintain temps and humidity but beyond that I think if you aren’t going to have a whole lot of them or breed them I think bigger cages are the way to go. I keep the ones I have in either very large tubs or big enclosures if I can

Old breeder that got out years ago. Larger shows with more colubrid breeders would likely be a good place to find one

Would you say these get even bigger than Florida king snakes?
@JzsReptiles
@JzsReptiles 2 года назад
Probably about the same. I don’t keep enough of either species to give a good account but at their longest both of mine are about 5 foot females and both maybe 1/2 dollar size around with the Florida/brooks being maybe a litter heavier

Do you use a humid hide with yours or do you keep your enclosure a certain humidity? I’m getting mine in a few days and am hesitant about my setup because of so much conflicting information
@JzsReptiles
@JzsReptiles 3 года назад
She’s in a 4 ft tub in a rack system so humidity is higher than an open air screen enclosure. She has 2 hides in the the tub and uses them both. I would recommend a humid hide for most reptiles. Think micro climate. They come out to bask, look for food and mates but that’s only part of the day. Another part is in their burrows which are usually cooler and more humid. Honduras are from a more humid area than many other milks so I would have a bit higher humidity anyway

Are these snakes diurnal?
@JzsReptiles
@JzsReptiles 2 года назад
Kinda. Many snakes including these are more corpuscular. They come out right around sunset to get some last minute sun and residual heat and mainly hunt at night into the early morning. So while more active at night, not truly nocturnal
