Lovely fish. If you don't cast too far out, use fixed grip leads cast way uptide and then lots of line out into a big downtide bow on the ebb you will at least stand a chance of holding bottom. You will also get some nice slackliners when the lead does get pulled.

Cracking ray , I was fishing about 500 m further up towards Portishead on the same tide - Nothing except whiting for me !! Regards tidal pull - line diameter is important - The ground in front of you is broken for about 30 yrs then sand, so heavy line is not necessary : With a decent fish , if your drag is set , you can manage with lighter lines. Always try to cast uptide by walking right or left and leaving some line to loop in the tide . 7 - 8 oz should be ok but I rarely fish on a 12 + M tide there - the ebb is very strong for the 1st hr or so . My rods have gone over so many times even with the drags set , so I use bungee cords to secure my rest to the rocks. Good luck with your channel , I've subscribed. Where the 2 guys were fishing to the right of you is a good spot to get down onto the lower rocks , as was about 50 yrds to your right where the rock ledge you are fishing on raises up to a higher level
