We’re now in July and with that the time for specimen tench fishing is finished for the year so we thought we’d sit down and recap on our season’s fishing. We spent a lot of time targeting Tench this year, whether that was on float fishing tactics or on heavier feeder methods. It’s been a lot of fun, but the ultimate goal was finding a tench over that 10lb mark…
When it came to our Specimen fishing we set about aiming for 2 sessions around the 48hr mark on a lake at Linear fisheries that we first fished together back in 2021. The first session was in late April and the weather was still very poor, with heavy rain prior and the temperature still cold it made for a pretty gruelling session. But we managed a couple of fish, including a big PB for Adam and a great opportunity to dust off the Tench gear for the season ahead.
Throughout May we did a lot of float fishing for Tench and we made a film about that (see link below) whilst also preparing for our next session at the lake at the end of May. It was a busy time with the Boatlife Fishing Championships up in Conwy and plenty of other things going on but it was great to have that session booked in. We were fishing in two pegs on the lake that we first fished together back in 2021 and this time it did not disappoint. The weather leading up to the session was brilliant, consistent temperatures and a steady South-Westerly wind led us to feeling confident upon arrival. Throughout the next few days we experienced an incredible session. Loads of big tench landed, including two PBs for Sam with the bigger being a very special fish. There were also a couple of surprises with a brace of 40lb Carp turning up for Sam on the Tench gear! It was a remarkable session and one we will remember for years to come.
That pretty much rounded off our fishing together, Sam snuck in one final session whilst I was away filming in Sweden, and he landed a few more up to the 9lb mark but nothing to compete with the fish he had a couple of weeks prior. Then it was over! It really is a short window of magical time to target these fish and we feel like we made the most of the time we had to work with, which is what it’s all about! And with that, we move onto other styles of fishing. Catching Sam his first barbel, getting out after Bass with Rory and much more to come.
