Legendary bassist Doug Wimbish shares a personal story of when he was first introduced to Spector Basses and how he was able to befriend Stuart Spector and work with him to custom design his 1987 Spector NS2 model, the same bass that he still relies on for his performances today and that Wimbish considers one of the “Best Basses on The Planet”!

I remember seeing Living Colour in 2002 after they released "Kaleidoscope" Back then Doug had an endorsement deal with Ibanez, so I was expecting him to get onstage with his signature Ibanez Soundgear models. He got on stage carrying three gigbags and I paid close attention to what was about to come out of those. - From the first one emerged his orange Spector and I was going "Fair enough, he has been playing that one for so long, of course he'd take it with him." - From the second one came his blue five string Spector - From the third one emerged a six string but again a Spector and I was going "H'mm, apparently he doesn't have that much faith in those Ibanez basses..." To this day I haven't found any footage of him using his Ibanez basses live.

That just looks like such a comfortable bass to play and very attractive looking instrument

I've been a fan of Doug for decades. i got my first spector in 1990 after seeing him play. I read an article in GP magazine (before we had bassplayer mag.) and Doug walked in picked up a coffee jar and started playing some hendrix with the jar as a slide. I was at Steve's Music in Toronto the day they got their first one in, I think around 1981. No one had seen or heard anything like it. They are best, most punchy, comfortable , best looking and highest quality bass you will ever see. totally unique. I'm glad I watched some of Doug's vids again because my next spector I definitly going to go for the narrow nut. I like early 70's p-basses with the a-width neck. The only think that is so hard to decide is the finish and colour. I want a green one but that means I'm going t have to have at least one or two others. I had an early kramer and they are the best era next to of course Brooklyn.

That's a nice story, But I still have no idea what that bass sounds like ! His pedalboard makes it sound like a guitar.

I LOVE my Spector!!! I also love Doug and much of what he's done over the years. he's definitely been a major staple in the bass world gong way back. And he seems like a super nice guy. But Doug's use of effects revs up my anxiety level to 10 when I listen!

i just put down a deposit for a spector euro 5lx totally over the moon, cant wait for it to ship but unfortunately the store im ordering i from is backlogged about a month and a half but i dont mind honestly, just makes me that much more excited. I wanted to buy a warwick thumb 5 but they've been giving me the runaround, now 8 months later and ive yet to hear back which is kinda frustrating but then i remembered spectors and decided to go with those. Plus warwick is still so insanely expensive, spector costs a little less as well and you still get that crazy boutique quality, hope i dont drop dead or end up in an accident before it ships.

You can make a bass sound like a guitar, but you can't make a guitar sound like a bass.
@RastaSaiyaman

No? Listen to what Chris Ballew of the Presidents of the United States of America does on a two string guitar through a bass amp and then try to say that that doesn't sound like a bass.
@RastaSaiyaman

You don't get it. A bass is a DIFFERENT instrument down to how it feels in your hands. A bass player couldn't get used to playing guitar because of it feeling so differently. Look up "Piccolo bass" and hear how they solved that.

Why on earth as a bassist you have all those pedals?? I'm blown, can you get a bass guitar sound from those,?? why not play guitar ?

Bassist play bass bottom end, few solos, nothing boring about what I play, I have used pedals, I dont need anything to alter true bass, to each their own..IMO
