As a professional developer with decades of experience, I know that it's not in my interest to invest my time in what is soon to become legacy technology. I went straight to "Spectra One" the day it was released and have not looked back. I'm very impressed by what I have seen. Thank you for a great tutorial.
Neither, I'm Astro team, not in WordPress but a way you can work in any planets. That's the truly infinite possibilities because it doesn't lock you in to any ecosystems! Again, ASTRO, not ASTRA.
I really appreciate this tutorial, but I find it to be somewhat like trying to take a drink out of a firehose. What would be far more helpful, to me, would be a tutorial during which you build a website from scratch using Spectra One. BTW, I am a retired full-stack web developer for a major healthcare company, so I'm not exactly a newbie at this. For someone not familiar with block-based development, I think your tutorial was good on a superficial level but lacked practical content, hence my request for a tutorial where you build a site from scratch using Spectra One. I can't find a single tutorial like that anywhere. Perhaps because the offering is so recent.
Thank you for your feedback. This video was intended as a walkthrough, but a more in depth tutorial about how to build a website is a definitely a great idea. But you are right it's pretty new so things are evolving fast.
Spectra one is nice, but I felt that it’s in infancy as compared to Astra which works with May customisation in mobile version also . Bought both pro version … can u just tell how much will it take spectra to reach to Astra in terms of customisation example menu , mega menu with icons in Astra as compared to spectra .
Astra is definitely more matured compared to Spectra One, which is indeed still in its infancy. So currently Astra is the solid option to go to whereas Spectra One will keep evolving and when Block themes become the new normal of WordPress, Spectra One will be matured.
I see so many people complaining, however I've found Spectra One to be far better to create a website to exactly my needs. You can pretty much recreate any website, which Astra doesn't allow you to do without coding. Spectra One needs mega menus though.
Thanks for sharing! At this point you can do a lot with Astra and even more with Astra Pro. But you're right about Full Site Editing and block themes bringing a lot of flexibility to the table.
These comments are hilarious!!! People are such brats now. They want pro features in something that is new and free. You guys act like FSE is something that has been out since Brainstorm Force. Its a new way of building sites so lets see what will happen.
They need to develop an in-depth tutorial on building a full website from scratch using Spectra One. I've searched thoroughly, and I believe there isn't a single tutorial out there yet on the subject. What are these people waiting for? It doesn't take a marketing genius to know that people are not going to get excited about a new product of any kind until they have been provided with enough information to know whether or not it will be worth investing any time in it or not.
I think when you create a new page, you select the template on which it will be based, on the right side menu of the WP editor. This is a missing step in many overview of block themes but is the most essential element. I saw it in one hard to find tutorial that actually went through creating a new page on a block theme.
Thank you for your comment. It looks more complicated than it really is. The most challenging part is the fact that things are done differently. But once you get passed that, it's really exciting.
Such a great video, thank you so much. To start with, Block Themes felt like banging my head against a brick wall, but I kept playing this video until everything fell into place. When the great beast that is currently Astra passes into history with other Classic Themes, I don't want my skill set to pass with it. Might as well go through the pain now and get it over with. Blocks Themes are clearly the future.
Hello everyone :). In order to do an ecommerce. Is it better Spectra or Bricks? I Don't Know Coding, so having this in linda, which will Be best option? Elementor is pretty slowwww
Hi, I’m having trouble figuring out how to interact with or customize the mobile menu design in SpectraOne. When designing the menu, changes seem to take effect, but when I check it on mobile, the modifications don’t apply. I’ve tried installing plugins for mobile menu design, but none seem compatible with an FSE theme. I’ve also tried adding additional CSS in the navigation block, but it doesn’t seem to work. The menu still appears centered, and I want it aligned to the left with indented submenus. I also can’t manage to adjust the spacing between the main menu items. The mobile menu looks unclear and aesthetically unappealing, which is a major issue since most users access websites from mobile devices nowadays, not computers or tablets. Is there a way to fix this, or is it a limitation of the theme? Any help would be appreciated!
Just to access menu so many clicks. I thought this blog theme will make things easy but I can clearly see its more complex and more clicks to get it done. I will not move to this unless its a lot easier. I think it needs only another 10000 times updates to get it as easy as old astra theme
Astra is still strong and will keep on evolving and going strong. Full Site Editing from WordPress is quite new and will keep getting better, as will Spectra One :)
Everyone in these comments you have to wrap your head around how FSE, templates etc work because it works like this for every block theme. It’s takes awhile to get used to but keep working with it
Thanks for watching! Spectra One is free but a newer theme, so less options than Astra Pro. Astra is the most popular WordPress theme that come in both free & pro versions. And if you want to know the differences between the two: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-StDyziiLwv8.html
Great video! Thanks for taking the time to make it!. Trying to wrap my head around Block themes. (Coming from a Divi developer) If we build sites in Astra, will it be easy to convert to Spectra?
Thank you for your comment! It's a different approach (for the theme part) but if you use the Spectra Visual Builder, it makes it easier for the content part.
You guys make nice tools. But, I wish you guys would do some user testing on your tools. It's really not very intuitive IMHO. Ask your customers to do UI testing, not your devs. I have gone back to using Divi for some projects for now, as it's easier and more intuitive to use. I just don't have time to waste trying to figure out basic things that never seem to work. Unsure if I will renew when my subscription is due. 🤔 FWIW, your stuff works fine when no customizations are required.
I've just added Spectra Pro to my license today and am wondering how it can integrate with what I do. It's all on a single multisite. I use Astra (Pro) and the Starter Templates (Premium) to build sites. I normally use the WP editor for posts and Elementor for modifying starter template pages or creating new ones. Does Spectra One work the same way as Astra and also let me use Elementor for some pages, or does it specifically exclude the use of Elementor? I use the Role Permissions in Elementor to restrict site editing access, and if Spectra One eventually got the same type of feature, I could use that. Thanks for any comment on this.
Hello, Just very glad about this new lunch, hope a great success for all team member. i just used Spectra One theme, one question : does Spectra One has any template or starter site like Astra had, or it is just a Theme which open a hand for modifying Header n Footer? What should we do, do we have to start from Scratch building a site
How do you reset everything back to default setting? I'm not happy with the setting I have but can't reset them. I even deactivate, delete and reinstall but it took me back to the settings I had. Very frustrating.
Change is always challenging. And Astra is of course more mature, given all the iterations since it was first released. But give it a chance, you may be surprised.
@@BrainstormForce Lots of folks appear to be anxiously waiting for you to do a complete site build...going slowly and carefully through the entire process so we don't get left in the dust like we did with this tutorial.
Hi, Thank you for this overview. Hiding a page title is not possible in a current version. An eye next to a title box does not appear. Is it a bug maybe?
This is a very informative video. Thanks !!! Just 2 things. At least on your screen, you can change the menu name and delete the menu within the block editor on the options section on the right. I don't see this on my side. Also, when hiding things for the desktop, mobile and tablet, it might be better/easier to wrap the different sections in a container and just show/hide the container rather than hiding the individual items. Just a thought.
WooCommerce is not yet supported by Spectra One. However, this is already in our plans, and we can start it in one or two weeks. Please remember that adding WooCommerce support would be a large task, so we will start with small steps and work our way up until we can say it’s fully supported. Our initial plan: - Styling (Shop, Single, Cart, Checkout, log in) - WooCommerce Pattern - Minicart - Sticky Add to Cart - Cart-Cross sale ~ Ivan from BSF Team ~
Now i know where is "Kaycinho The Digital Alchemist" - i was waiting for new videos and thats a suprice where i find You... but back to Spectra - how about speed of this block editor? Is it faster than Elementor? Bricks? Any compare in Google Page Speed/GTmetrix with same visual content and plugins?
Hey hey thank you so much :) That could be a good idea for a future video. In terms of speed, the Spectra page builder (plugin), it feels very responsive as it's built on top of the core Wp editor. And the Spectra One theme benefits from WordPress's new Full Site Editing features. Try it, it's free :)
Thanks for this vid and for your work. I'm a beginner in WP, and the difference between Sprectra and Spectra One, is not really clear, only that Spectra One is no-code. Could it be possible to make a vid, a basic tutorial to "do" a simple website, and not just a run through for people who already knows word press and how to work with it? Or to provide where there is such a turorial or course?
Glad you liked it! And thank you for the suggestion, we want to help beginners progress. We will have a video in the near future that explains how to tools play together. And we will certainly in the future create a video tutorial about Spectra One, but bear in mind that "Block" themes (like Spectra One) are not as friendly as "Classic" themes (like Astra). In the meantime, we have several tutorials about creating a website with Astra (by the way one was just released, and another one will be released soon).
I have an unlimited lifetime subscription to Astra Pro, but I do think that Block Themes/FSE is the future, for many reasons, and conventional themes and page builders will "soon" become obsolete. Of course it's not an easy task to convert your existing websites, but it is surely enough worth the effort.
Thank you for your feedback. It's definitely fun to play with block themes and a good idea to start learning how to convert existing websites. At this point in time Astra comes with a lot more features but Spectra One will keep on evolving :)
Thank you for this video! I am using Astra Pro in many sites. But block themes, like Spectra One, is the future. I have to watch this video more than once and take notes in order to understand from where I can customize the settings.
We actually address this by the end of the video. It's like driving a classic car or an electric one. They both get you to destination, but they use a different way of getting you there. Astra Pro is the top solution today and for a long time. Spectra One is our answer to the future of WordPress which is more than likely block themes. This way, when block themes become mainstream, Spectra One will have had the time to mature and be as strong as Astra. But as long as classic themes can be used with WordPress, Astra and Astra PRO will keep on evolving and getting better.
Sure in Wp Admin > Appearance > Editor > click anywhere (like in the header for example) then on the top right corner you will see the "Styles" icon (last icon), just click on it :)
Thanks for the Walkthrough! I'm in the early stages of building a website so I switched the theme over from Astra to Spectra One to experiment and see which is more suited. I'm happy with Spectra One so far, but I've noticed that 'Inter' is the only font family available in certain blocks (e.g. Navigation links on pages) and in the Full Site Editor (header and footer elements etc). I have the Spectra blocks plugin installed with Google Fonts activated but this doesn't seem to extend to those sections. One solution I've found so far has been to install an additional Google Fonts plugin, but it's a bit clunky to use, not overly customisable and I would prefer not to have that extra layer overriding the theme. Could you suggest the best method for adding font families to Spectra One? Many thanks for your time!
Just to be sure, when you added Google Fonts within the "Spectra plugin", do you mean you added Google Font specific families on the "Performance" tab or "Theme Fonts" tab?
Hi I've tried google fonts typography and it seems this plugin is dominant over spectra one because the actual website in the public is shown as the changed font with the plugin. It'd be great if there were more fonts options within spectra one. But other than that everything is fantastic :)
Installing only the fonts you are using has tremendous advantages. Yes knowing what you want in an easy to install method is good but having everything when you don't need it sometimes not helpful
