I have both of these pumps. I even have the exact medela bag! I like them both but I feel like the suction on the medela is much stronger even on the lowest setting it’s really strong. I prefer the look of the spectra and I like that it’s not attached to a bag. I also prefer the spectra bottles because I pump and feed so I like to feed from the same bottle I pump into and medela bottles feel cheap and the nipples collapse. Overall I think I get about the same output now that I am using the right flange sizes. But medela is better for travel.
Thank you so much for this video. These are the two pumps Im trying to decide between and it helped me a lot. I used the Medela with my first two babies. Both had pretty bad feeding issues so Im determined to have a better time this time. The Medela was fine but given my anxiety around nursing and getting enough milk for baby, Im going to switch this time. My lactation consultant said you cant go wrong with either but that maybe switching would yield better results. Im grateful for this conversation from other mamas about it. Thanks again.
I’m so glad I could help! The only other pump that I love more than both of these is the Medela freestyle. It’s like a combination of both, and it’s also cordless, and much more convenient! I plan on doing a video review of it soon 🤗
For literally 1st time moms that have no clue about this stuff, your video had explanations but we don't know the language of breast pumping and all that so maybe if you explained more what each phase actually does, how it feels, does it hurt, storing of milk...etc...more honest details might help.
I totally understand, this video was more of a pump review not a breastfeeding review, I did make a breastfeeding video around the same time of this video you should definitely check that out and if you have any questions feel free to do me on Instagram anytime 🤗
Wow thanks for sharing!! I’d rather watch this than read the directions 😂😂 more of an audio learner to be honest. Thank you so much for also sharing two breast pumps so the viewer can then choose which one they want to go through with buying. You really took the time to go in detail about using both 😱 great job !!! Just subbed 😃
Oookay !! When ur pregant u need all the tips and shortcuts to get thru it quick lol it's hard enough to stay focus reading something already! This videos was definetly helpful.
I'm very surprised finding out that lots of american videos talking about milk extractors mentiobn that You can get a milking machine for free with your pregnancy insurece. What a cool feature! Here in México none of the pregnancy insurece options have this feature.
i am so glad this video is on youtube! i personally use and love the spectra s1 but i wish i had a video like this when i was doing research! i think you can’t go wrong with either tho (:
How exciting! Congrats on your baby ❤️ I honestly recommend the Medela freestyle because it’s cordless and MUCH more convenient. I recently made a video about the freestyle as well as a video about first time mom tips. Congrats again, I wish you all the best with your new mommy journey!
Thank you for posting this video! I am getting ready to order my breast pump and was a little intimidated by all the options. I had heard that the Madela or Spectra were the ones to go with but your video was very helpful!! 🥰
At risk of asking a stupid question here: do you have to hold the pumps on or do they stay after suctioning? Also are they portable (charge and go)? Thanks.
Unfortunately they don’t stay on but there are some great hands free pumping bras out there. There are tons of car adapters out there that work for both of these pumps since they use the same adapter. I hope this answers your questions ♥️
@@CrystalGonzalez thanks! It does. By the way, I looked into hands free but opted out because they don't hold as much fluid and are very expensive. But definitely look convenient!
The best way I can describe it is this, when you stimulate the nipple enough it sends a trigger to your breast demanding more milk in which a let down occurs where your milk ducts releases milk to feed the baby. When the let down happens milk comes out automatically without anymore stimulation. When you click on the letdown buttons it suctions at longer lengths to get the most milk out. I hope this helps!
Thanks for this review! I had the Medela with my first child and it was somewhat painful and I always wished that I could adjust the speed and suction. So I think this time around I'm going with the Spectra!
What parts do you use? Maymom just put out 13-15mm flanges for spectra along with connectors that allow you to connect any medela flange to the spectra
I use a size that is actually pretty uncommon, Willow, Elvie and Freemie don't carry my size either so I can't use the cups, everything they have is too small
Thank you for this video! My insurance allows me to choose between these & a few others. After viewing your video I feel I made the right chose in choosing the Spectra S2
I had the Medela Pump in Style with my daughter and it worked great. But when I tried to use it for my son 3 years later I was barely able to get an 1oz and had to switch to formula since I didn't have another pump. Will definitely be trying the Spectra S2 this time around!
Nikel Nuts I just saw another video that said don’t reuse pumps. Completely made since with my second child. My supply just stopped. I borrowed a pump for two month and it did ok but wasn’t great. I am getting a new one this time.
Most lactation consultants recommend using a new pump for every birth. For one reason or another using the same pump doesn't always give the same strength.
i used medela for my first baby I think did the job pretty well no complains! is it worth it to switch to Spectra for baby number 2? would I be able to use any of the medela stuff?
You can buy connectors from maymom that will allow you to connect medela flanges. Unfortunately spectra uses wide neck bottles . Medela doesn't. But you can also rig the whole medela flange to the spectra to use medela bottles with.
Medelas normally have a strong suction, some would say that a meldela has a higher suction than the spectra but the spectra pattern mimics a baby more and gets out more milk, these are all things that I’ve heard 🤗
Yes I used the hospital grade medela pump in the hospital and pumped up to 4 oz at a time. I got home and used the medela pump in style and didn’t even get an oz at a time
The best way I can describe it is this, when you stimulate the nipple enough it sends a trigger to your breast demanding more milk in which a let down occurs, where your milk ducts releases milk to feed the baby. When the let down happens milk comes out automatically without anymore stimulation. And sometimes you can actually feel it happening. When you click on the letdown buttons it suctions at longer lengths to get the most milk out. I hope this helps!
Great video im a new mom due may 3rd im trying to find a good pump i applied to get one from aeroflow and got approved my options are Lansinoh smartpump 2.0, Medela, Motif, & Spectra 2 and I have a $95 upgrade option for the Spectra 1 do you think it would be worth $95 to get the spectra 1 i liked it because does have the option of using battery option or plugging it in but wasnt sure what to do because $95 is quite alot for me and also doesn't even come with a bag or more accessories just the pump but I understand it does have the battery option which is why more expensive
I plan on feeding from the breast more often then anything. I just found out that my insurance covers the Medela pump, do you think for personal needs (of not wanting to pump so often) the Medela is good?
I got the meddle symphony, but I hated then when I increased the level, instead of suctioning harder, it was just faster, and it hurt sooo much. I ordered the spectra, lets see if it works better.
Can you explain the terms, letdown, and the stimulating phase. I'm so confused by all these terms and no one in my family has breast fed 😭 it's so intimating when you have to learn all this on your own
I can totally relate! When baby starts sucking or when you start pumping ( on the faster setting ) this is the stimulation phase. Once you’ve stimulated enough to trigger a let down ( where your body senses there’s a baby you need to feed) your milk will be released and it’ll look like it’s shooting out if pumping or just dripping. During the letdown your other breast will also release milk so it’s really important to get a Hakka to catch it. You can get it off of Amazon. I hope this helped you understand a little better. If you have anymore questions feel free to reach out on Instagram ❤️
Can you use both brands of bottles and storage ? Or is it only the corresponding bottles and storage to be used with each machine? I got a lot of Medela bottles and storage bags for my shower but am more interested in the Spectra, hopefully then work because if not that is a lot of bottles and storage bags to not be able to use! 😫
Unfortunately the spectra bottles are a lot wider than the medela, but you can still use the medela bottles as storage! I personally have the medela symphony hand pump that I use with the bottles. I used the hand pump for long car rides, I threw it in my purse if I needed to go out for long periods of time so it was pretty handy. You might consider getting the hand pump to bring your other medela products purpose. I hope this helped!
So the Spectra you can only pump one breast at a time and the Medela you can pump both at a time ? Is it safe to do both ?? sorry for all the questions!!
Both of them are a double electric pump, when you pump both breasts at the same time it's much more faster. I prefer to only do one at a time to avoid washing more pump parts.
I’m pregnant with my first. Insurance will allow me to order my free breast pump tomorrow when I hit 36 weeks. Does breast size matter with either pump?? I’m very busty and I just want whichever pump works the hardest and fastest.
@@kisses4elvis No, it doesn’t determine about breast size, but by nipples, which some pumps do have different flanges. The ones that come with the pump are way too big for my nipples.
I just did everything online with the pumps insurance edgepark after I finished everything it sent me another email saying “ based off you’re insurance guidelines we will begin in processing your order on 01 18 2020 Dose that mean it went through & it’ll be coming ?
mama des what’s your due date? They usually don’t send it unless it’s with in 30 days of your due date. It could also mean it’s just processing your order and will ship with in that 30 days. I bet if you call their customer service they could help you out 😊
