hello can any one answer this A microchannel plate photomultiplier has a semiconductor photocathode with an electron affinity of -0.2 eV and a band gap of 3 eV. the photocathode to microchannel plate (MCP) gap is 200 microns and the accelerating voltage across this gap is 150 V. a) Illustrate by means of diagrams the differences between a reflection and a transmission photocathode. b) Explain the applications for which reflection and a transmission photocathodes are utilised and why. c) An incoming photon with a wavelength of 400 nm liberates a photoelectron. Assuming no loss of energy due to thermalisation, calculate the energy of the emitted photoelectron. d) If the photoelectron is emitted at an angle of 15 degrees to the normal, calculate the position error of the photoelectron when it impacts the top surface of the MCP. e) In a few percent of cases, the photoelectron is elastically scattered from the top surface of the MCP back into the gap. This scattering can occur at any angle. If scattering does occur, determine the new maximum position error for this particular event.
when emission occur electron already present in exited state ?? just like in case of absorption when hv interact with matter then electron move ground to high state whatever about in emission ?? please clear us?
On the emission part. Is it the electron jumping from the excited state to ground state or the atoms jumping from excited state to ground state? You are talking of atoms or molecules jumping from excited state but I think its electron. Someone to enlight me on this
