Pope Benedict is an incredible man I never appreciated him properly when he was in official office of Pope which brings me great sadness. I continue to admire and pray for him I really hope he knows he is truly admired and loved and not forgotten😀

@@Kusntestos1 Progress isn't always positive just as conservatism isn't always bad (or, interpreting it by the saying that conservatism is the preserval of the fire instead of the worship of the ash, actually never). Therefore, yes, he's indeed been a great Pope!!!😊

This is Peter speaking amongst us. My Lord thank you for giving us a pope like joseph ratzinger. Hope that you may give him a long life even up to 100 years old. Never heard of this topic outlined in this way. How I wish Peter can come to the Philippines. Wish to see Peter someday. All humanity must know about this. Thank you for your generous intellect! We love you, we will be praying for you, we will be with you till the end! In the name of the Father & of the Son & of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

One of the greatest minds ever. We are blessed to have him as our Pope. If you enjoyed this speech (which who wouldn't) then I would suggest his book "Truth and Tolerance" where he dives deeper into this topic of culture, religion, relativism, and Objective Truth.

I feel bad for the fact that you are a victim of media propaganda. Before you go off sprouting slander and nonsense about Pope Benedict XVI, I recommend you to go sit down and read both sides of the argument for and against this man. Have you even read what Pope Benedict XVI has to say, in full and in context? I don't mind reading arguments from his critics but you don't even know enough about him to even criticize him.

I made the Pope retire. Actually Pope Benedict XVI resigned for me specifically because he is that rockstar. Quoting Dirty Harry 44 days post post posted ten twenty-eight twelve at twelve twelve pope reply on twelve twelve twelve at ten twenty-eight then formal resignation of first pope in six centuries exactly two plus two and two times two months later two months two weeks and two days after the first ever pope peep "Well, Do Ya, Pope?"

What a beautiful dialogue between Man's spiritual and political natures, brilliantly enlightened by God's presence in its content! Rarely in our daily lives do we get to see such a powerful encounter! Here's the head of Christ's Church talking to the legislative body of a powerful nation at the heart of Europe, each addressing the deepest and most important desires of each other. Unity of Church and essence of political government and law-making respectfully presented in a sublime way!

Giordano Bruno, born 1548, was a philosopher, mathematician and astronomer. He proposed that the Sun was a star, that the universe contained an infinite number of inhabited worlds populated by other intelligent beings. On the morning of February 17, 1600, Giordano Bruno was burned, alive, by the Holy Roman and Apostolic Catholic Church. * _____________________________ * ( All civil verdicts were reviewed by the Holy Inquisition before sentence could be carried out at the behest of the Church. )

I didn't admit any such thing. Yes, all actions the RCC stood by and watched and were also complicit are ultimately its fault. No. No double-standard. I judge the RCC by exactly the same standard by which I judge Stalin, and you.

Consider this: 1/2 "The commonest technique was the pulley “which involved tying the unfortunate’s wrists behind his back with leather straps. He would be slowly lifted to the roof of the torture chamber by a pulley and then dropped, his fall ending just before he hit the ground, a procedure so painful that it would dislocate most of his joints."

"...Lemme get this straight: Since others abuse children almost as savagely as do your monstrous preachers, and since you abuse children 'in the name of christ', we should do as you do and continue to support the abusers? "How much money have YOU given to the victims? Not one penny. "How much money have YOU given to those trying to ferret out your hideous preachers? Not one penny. "How much have YOU given to protect the abusers?" ~ freethinker801 in reply to sh357558 2 months ago

2/2 This was even applied to a ten year old, Brás Nunes: “Restrained with straps and ropes, constantly calling upon the Holy Virgin Mother for compassion, he was tied and placed on the slab and raised up to the pulley at which point he was dropped.”

2/4 Often, the full horror was ameliorated by having the victims first strangled before being consigned to the flames, but this was not always so. In Portugal, there were relatively fewer burnings than elsewhere, but these were burnt alive.

In Seville, for example, the authorities "...used the rack, the lash, fire etc. In some cases this was a veritable martyrdom because they applied padlocked irons to the flesh which even led to the amputation of a hand…. From this it happened that the pain of torture was greater than that of the fire, and many completely innocent men, overcome by the terror they experienced, confessed to whatever they were accused of." ~ Herrera Puga, quoted in Crompton, 'Homosexuality and Civilization'

3/4 In some instances, unusually imaginative cruelty applied. In 1255, the Fuerto Real of Alfonso X of Spain decreed that “We order that whoever commits such a sin shall both of them, as soon as it is discovered, be castrated before all the people, and after three days, shall be suspended by the legs until they die, and shall never be taken down”.

1sSxAMxAa1 - - Isn't it because ancient men were aggressively made by culture itself and thus used their own lack of sensibility as a religious interpretation - for reality!? And, is what you describe Christianity itself!!?? - - Was it its entirety, true foundation or universal realms of intelligence!? For its 'literature' material, as others!??

To remind you of the influence of the RCC, even in Florence: Galileo! I stand by my remarks. Had the RCC opposed them, no such laws as these could have existed. Such sentences as here described were reviewed by Church officials. The piece was primarily about events in Venice, not Florence.

4/4 In Augsburg in 1409, four ecclesiastics were hung in a wooden cage, bound hand and foot, and left to starve to death. In Venice, in 1552, ”A man was dragged from the church at Santa Croce to the Rialto bridge, the scene of his crime, at a horse’s tail. There, his hands were cut off. Then, he was dragged to the Columns of Justice to be beheaded and burned.

RE: "He also didn't claim that it was carried out by the church - was it not, like in Florence, carried out by the state?" Quite correct, but: a) the state could have no law of which the Church did not approve; b ) after trial and sentencing by the state, the inquisition had to validate judgment before sentence could be carried out; c) upon 'validation', the Church then handed the individual back over to the state, knowing full well what was to occur. The RCC is a crime against humanity.

1/4 Execution The most notorious of the sentences was that of death by burning, but this was not in fact a uniform sentence just the most common form of execution. There were many others. In Castile, the penalty was originally death by stoning, before the they too adopted burning and the stake. In the Netherlands, drowning was favoured. Hanging was also applied, especially in later years. The methods of burning also varied.

The entrance to Venice is marked by two columns erected in 1172 by Nicolo Barattieri. On the one stands the city’s original patron, Saint Theodore, with his crocodile. Atop the other, the column of San Marco, rests the symbol of Venice, itself -- the winged bronze lion, the Lion of St Mark, the Evangelist, and protector of Venice. The Catholic Church burned alive more gay people between those two magnificent columns than all other persecuted peoples anywhere else in Europe until the holocaust.

"...the question is how do subjects establish objective laws?" Wrong! The question is, 'Where's the beef?'. I am not arguing against anything. I am waiting for evidence of claims made. "An atheist doesn't have to be someone who thinks he has a proof that there can't be a god. He only has to be someone who believes that the evidence on the God question is at a similar level to the evidence on the werewolf question." ~ John McCarthy, Professor Emeritus, Computer Science, Stanford University

Faith is the pinnacle of arrogance, rooted in the cowardice of denying one's ignorance when confronted by mystery. Faith is the deadliness of all vices, a kind of brain death, elevated to the status of virtue, and worse even than war; because with faith there can be no reasoning, no negotiating, no compromise, no peace. "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." ~ Albert Einstein
@1sSxAMxAa1
@1sSxAMxAa1 12 лет назад
One has no right to set standards baseless claims. Reason and logic applied to evidence can lead to errors and mistakes, but such mistakes and errors lend themselves to examination and can be corrected or, at the very least, not repeated, whereas dogma, by definition, is immutable, however ridiculous it always is.

RE: "You need to support such a condemnatory conclusion with evidence & reasons." So now you expect me to do a research paper in 500 characters. You do come across as well-educated and thorough. Maybe you could help me. A bit 'off topic', but where are the "evidence & reasons" backing up the RCC's for the existence of a thing called the 'Trinity'? Where? And the 'Virgin Birth'? If you please. Or even simply for 'God'? ROFL The RCC has had 2000 to make its case, and it has failed.

"Despite Mr Grant's claims the inquisition...wasn't primarily about the persecution of homosexuals." He did not say that it was. He said more homosexuals were killed than heretics. He said nothing to indicate that the purported focus was on homosexuality, as opposed to heresy. In fact, a plausible argument can be mounted that homosexuality was viewed as an expression of heresy. Is your primary interest here in getting the story 'straight'? Or is your primary interest here to protect the RCC

Catholic Pope Ratzinger was the first ack ack Nazi German fighter soldier (meaning anti aircraft gunner) and ex Nazi and current Neo Nazi to be appointed pope of the Roman catholic church. He had helped shoot down at-least five allied aircrafts while he was a Nazi artillery soldier. Pope Ratzinger is still alive, as of 2019. Some say 10 allied aircraft were shot down by the pope's unit while he was manning the big artillery Nazi guns.

All of your 'How do you know you are now not dreaming' nonsense will get you nowhere. Millions of people have perished in the most horrific manners imaginable either directly, or indirectly, because of faith. Even when the cause for brutality is misunderstood faith, faith is still guilty because one cannot misunderstand something if it does not exist. Their is no excuse for the existence of faith.

Faith is at the foundation of human existence. There is a difference between faith and blind faith... your beef may be valid w.r.t. crimes/sentencing of RCC, but that beef couldn't carry over to the idea of faith. Faith to knowledge to validation of faith to love to compassion to humanity to salvation... this is the progression of human evolution. (plant to animal to animal-man to man-man to god-man) Many faithful have uplifting experience (even within RCC) that couldn't be possible with lack of faith in any level. Faith in material science will yield material satisfaction, faith in subjective science (spirituality) will yield spiritual fulfillment even in the absence of material gains.
