Is your child showing signs of speech delay (not meeting speaking milestones)? While some children develop speech earlier and others later, catching speech delay early is critical, especially if there is an underlying condition such as hearing loss, ear infections, decreased tongue mobility or autism causing it. At Mount Sinai’s Division of Pediatric ENT, our pediatric otolaryngologists take a full medical history and exam of your child (ears tongue, etc.), as well as an audiogram. All parental concerns are seriously taken into consideration. Based on parental discussions and data, our pediatric otolaryngologists make treatment recommendations about nutrition, more testing, etc. Treatment is based on a team approach with multiple experts (i.e. audiologists, speech-language pathologists, etc.) contributing to a holistic treatment plan.
