Speech Therapy is important to treat in individuals with dementia. At our Memory Care Day Center in Mt. Pleasant SC we have a speech therapist who comes in once a week to treat one of members. We have seen a significant improvement in her speech since starting the therapy. All a part of providing a better quality of life for those with memory loss!
My mom has just been diagnosed at 89. She is having more problems with remembering words. I'm in another state and my step father does not engage her at all. She seems to freeze when she tries to talk to him, because he's like, what?? It's hard to watch. He's fine. He plays golf 3x each week, does the grocery shopping, but doesn't nor has he ever really, engage her in conversation.
