Hello everyone! This week I sang Speechless from Aladdin!
I was really surprised by how much I like this song! I’m usually pretty wary of how movies (or musicals for that matter) will incorporate new materials into the show. I find it to be very jaring and can take me out of the emersion if it’s super obvious. Speechless reminds me a lot of a traditional musical ballad with a pop kinda swing and I like that a lot.
It’s a very pretty melody, nice lyrics but given a pop twist. It could easily be turned into a fully orchestrated ballad and I’m hERE for it.
On a very real note, I rerecorded this a few times. It feels weird following Prince Ali with something I feel that isn’t my best. I’ve really grown since the original cover and it feels a little weird branding myself with it again so many years later. I am much more than all those high belts (shrieks) and I almost feel pressure to show that. It’s weird man, very weird. But regardless, I hope you all can sit back and enjoy.
