This car is amazing but the 997 is the car that I fell in love with and grew up with. I think the 997 will always be my favorite. I remember the first time I saw a 2007 gt3 at a car show. Ever since then its been nothing but Porsche for me!
I'm with you on the weight, we seem to be at a time in cars that they're so heavy now that we compensate with having insane horsepower numbers. Just go back a few years and 400-500 horsepower was only in the best supercars on the planet, now we see that in several sedans and entry level supercars. If the weight was lower we wouldn't need all that. I'd love to have a 997, or any 911, love that ducktail on it btw, not sure if that one is yours, but looks great.
Oh wow, never would've guessed haha! Loved the second gen 997, great car. Yeah I think we all would love to have a GT3, such a great car, so full of focus and fun, but of course it all comes with a price...
That photo was taken from Forza 4 on the xbox 360!! I have sold my 997.2 Carrera .. as I am putting the money back into my business.. I would like a GT3 next time.. but with this recession I don't think I will ever own another Porsche. Very sad days indeed.
Put two identically optioned 997 and 991 911's and the 991 should have less weight overall. Despite the larger size, Porsche worked hard to use lighter weight materials and bring down the curb weight.
Indeed, way too pricey! hehe, I have just purchased a BMW F800GS for fun and I have to say that I am very much enjoying it (when it doesn't rain!) cheers.
Larger is not a negative, Porsche has been promoting their everyday sports car campaign and having a larger car helps make the car more practical. Its actually not heavier at all, its about 45 kilos lighter, so go do more research on that next time. I don't know if you've driven the car at all, I see you have a 997, but I have yet to watch a single review where anyone has said the steering is numb, yes the feel may not be as good anymore, but thats just the way of the times.
Of course it is.. longer wider heavier and quieter with numb steering, no front end bobbing and total divorce from the driving experience.. of course it's the best one yet!
You mean to say that the car (which has been made only 2 inches longer than the last 997) is too long? and 2 inches shorter was the best? People like you cant afford one but can only crib about the new model because its now more comfortable, better looking, and better to drive... however i will agree with you on the steering bit..
Yeah - you have no idea! Ok - time goes by - when Porsche changed the air cooled engine for a water cooled one, there were a lot of naysayers. Now again. It is bigger - but lighter and stronger as well and wider! And the "normal" 991 CarreraS already scratching the times from the 997 GT3. Just wait until the new GT3 is coming; this will be a nightmare for other producers [in the range - obviously the new Ferraris costing almost twice - hence are no direct competition]!
A lot of people point out that the 911 keeps the same look. It's improving though. No one points out that BMW isn't changing their look and it's waaay worse.
To be honest I kinda felt the 911 go soft as well. I still think it is a good drive, and definitely a faster car, but perhaps not the same visceral experience I remember from my 02 porsche 911 Carrera S.
If you want GT, not a Sports car :/. This 991 is the last nail in the coffin for the true 911. Why? Its too long,(longer than a corvette actually) they switched the hydraulic steering(like you get in BMW's which is why many people enjoy driving them) to numb electronic steering. It also look too curvacious and in the rear wheels, almost uncomfortably so. These people just get paid to say this, now if youre a California valley girl or guy youre gonna love it. If you love driving, you wont.
