I think you hit a great spot in your videos of accessible painting tips. They're easy to follow and simple to execute, even for beginners. There's a great mixture of traditional painting and using a lot of contrast for what it's good for. Also, it is nice that there's no airbrush involved, since it's kind of a specialist tool not a lot of us have access to. :)
@ralfsstuff I have used some TurboDork colorshift paints before, so probably one of theirs. I think they had one that will work, but I will have to do some experimentation.
Well my day is ready to go thanks to this video, got my model primed, paints ready, snacks on standby and criminal minds on TV. Can't wait to see the other stormcast eternals models uploaded
Great tutorial and a very easy way to achieve a super finish. A word of warning that could probably easily apply to any delicate mini, be cautious when dry brushing, be aware of small thin elements in around the area, or if applying directly to small thin surfaces, brace them with your finger to avoid breaking with over zealous brushing. I snapped the top spike, didn’t notice until the next day and had to actually carve and recreate the missing piece out of sprue.
Another great video Andy, really glad that you ended up painting the armour as, even though it was simple, it helped me a lot with thinking through the paint process! And yes, I've pretty much stopped watching GW and most other painting tutorials as they'll show a space marine or simple model but then list an insane number of paints to get to the standard, that seriously puts me off!
I used your Krondys painting guide and now with the Stormcast half of the new box I'll be using these tutorials as a guide as well. Thank you for doing it in the style you do, I've found them invaluable for me getting my army up to tabletop standard 👍👍👍
Thankyou for the simplicity of your painting & supporting the rest of us to get painting without worrying of how they turn out but just to try. It would have been nice to have painted the rider as well
Looks great and I'd love to see the Lord Vigilant painted too. I'm currently painting an Epic Reaver Titan using your contrast/shade/layer method and it's so refreshingly easy!
excellent job on the beast...yes do part II with the rider...i would do black outside and violet on the inside of the cloak ....with a white line at the edge....
Looks great! Will definitely use some dry brushing on mines for the fure and feathers! Would love to see you paint the rider for a video! Maybe in hallowed knights colors!
amazing video. i have just bought the Skaventide box set and have definitely faced the dread that hits when you first look at some of the models, feeling terrified that i couldn't possibly be able to do justice to them.
That bone drybrush over Contrast really is amazing. Works for most colors, too. I wonder how some retarder medium would help extend Contrast curing time. Going to have to try that.
Great video Andy. And the colours used could easily be switched out to change the skin and feathers. Keen to see the dude on top for the weapon effects painted, and maybe in a more alternative - even a home brew one for you! Like a gold/black/orange scheme for the guy after your previous videos saying you liked doing orange.
Looks great with just the contrast paint, wow. I really want the box but can't really afford it though unfortunately. Hopefully it gets split up into a magazine in the future like Imperium etc
The box will probably be around for a while if you want to put aside money for it-there was still copies of dominion floating around til very recently in (cheaper) FLG stores!
Hi fantastic video I would find a video tutorial ever so helpful on how to do the stormcast on top in the colours of the blue celestial stormcasts so if you could please do that I would be very grateful
Unfortunately not! I have a video on building models from the set so you can see what way it goes together! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ELnFpmDdz1w.htmlsi=2bx6y5vKTdnaKEKq
well done again, escpecially pointing out the art on the box is basically impossible. You can paint a model to a good standard in a few hours. Thats the start, from there you can improve. also have a like for the algo
I never know how much to load my brush with contrast/SP. Most of the time it's way too little or way to much (I'm using an Army Painter Base Coating brush)
Too much is usually better because you can wipe off the excess before it fires rather than staining the model by dragging too little paint across too big of a surface. Work in sections, wrap around a complete leg in one go etc so you cover all of it in one cost before anything dries and take away the excess with your brush.
Yeah, people being scared of painting isn't great. After two years of "Warhammering" I'm still anxious to use anything but AP Speedpaint. Models still look OK but that imposter syndrome got to the point where I don't even share pictures anymore.
I’m sorry to hear that man. Social media isn’t fun when you’re not looking at painters at the same level as you. As long as you’re happy and you’re slowly improving on the parts you want to with practice, you’ll get there. There’s no set standard for painting, we just see the competition painters post more online so it feels like that’s the goal. That’s not the average painter. Your opinion is the only one that matters. 2 years isn’t much compared to many other painters so don’t be hard on yourself. There’s nothing wrong with sticking to what you’re comfortable with either.
