Some of the earlier stages of the paint job had me questioning the choice/application of colours, but the result was very surprising and it all came together at the end. (Maybe explain the choice rather than just stating it?) Excellent guide and video, cheers

I found you’re channel some weeks back. On your Eldar army. It inspired me to do the same for my own Eldar. I found quickly that my talent in painting and air brushing was not up to the level for doing it. So I decided to improve. Paint other minis I had. And I had some Templars. So here I am again. Great video. Can’t wait to try it out.

Artis Opus are just rebranded Rosemary and Co. brushes so if you want to save a ton of money just get those. Dirt cheap makeup brushes are also the best for dry-brushing.
@SlayerMiniatures
@SlayerMiniatures 3 года назад
I've used cheap make up dry brushes for ages and there definitely is a difference, the application is much smoother and easier to control. So they are worth it in my opinion. If you are going to be doing alot of dry brushing and detail work. I've used synthetic brushes for years too. Both have their uses :)
@danncozey
@danncozey 17 дней назад
I find that rebranding has it’s place. I went on the Rosemary & Co website after reading your comment and I was instantly overwhelmed. I had no idea what I was looking at. With the A O brushes you know that they have personally selected what you need for this very specific hobby task. I’m all for saving money but I feel like they have saved me time. Is there a specific box set you would recommend by Rosemary & Co?

I would argue that is not grimdark. The issue issue is the colours used are too bright. Grimdark tends to be more gritty, realistic.etc. That's not to say it doesn't look good, did an amazing job.

What's wrong with using citadel washes? I'm just curious because most of this stuff I'd have to buy on the internet aside from the oil paints
@SlayerMiniatures
@SlayerMiniatures 4 дня назад
There is nothing wrong with citadel washes, they just do different things to oil washes. For oil wash...you need oil paint and some white spirit (sold in all hardware stores). To make a around a litre of oil wash it would cost you around £3. And for a litre of citadel washes it would cost upto hundreds. Acrylic washes (citadel) stain the surfaces of paint, aka 'tide marks', and require you to paint back over them with the base layer to neaten it up. Oil Paint seeks out recesses and does not sit on raise surfaces. You can also clean away and remove any that is on raised surfaces. Two different products. Two different purposes. I use oil all the time. I use citadel washes all the time too. Hope that helps
@ChrisB-eb4fh
@ChrisB-eb4fh 6 месяцев назад
I assume you can mix oil wash and the streaky grim into one application since the process is the same and are oil based. Effectively those two applications were redundant. One brown and one black. Both removed on the upper surfaces?
@SlayerMiniatures
@SlayerMiniatures 6 месяцев назад
The grime leaves a dusty appearance behind. The black basically lines the panels it doesn't remove the grime or fully cover it.

Did you thin the Black Templar contrast paint before you put it through the airbrush? I am playing around with this technique now but I did not thin down then contrast paint and mine seems to come out quite a bit darker than yours. In other words, it looks like one block of color...
@SlayerMiniatures
@SlayerMiniatures 2 года назад
No I didn't thin mine. I applied thin layers. But then you can also give it another very light dry brush after to highlight the armour.

@SlayerMiniatures
@SlayerMiniatures 2 года назад
Yeah of course. These are the easy build kits so the pads and arms couldn't be painted separately.
@Solaaris1
@Solaaris1 3 года назад
Looks great, but how will it scale up for tanks etc? Contrast looks meh on large flat areas.
@SlayerMiniatures
@SlayerMiniatures 3 года назад
Good question, contrast is amazing through an airbrush and does not leave tide marks that way. You can get the same effect with a brush but just need to be super careful about tide marks. I've found putting a few drops of water into the contrast before applying it really helps it spread more evenly. And gives longer to soak up the excess.

Really like the finished product! I’m new to using oils on miniatures, would you apply varnish over top of the miniature when complete?
@SlayerMiniatures

Oils are great and easy to use. I don't think another varnish is necessary. The one hou apply pre oil should be sufficient to protect the models :)

I’m really struggling to see the zenithal coming through; it appears to have been completely washed out by the black Templar contrast sprayed. Am I wrong?
@SlayerMiniatures
@SlayerMiniatures 3 года назад
Its hard to show and film, but it was showing through. It was subtle. Also as my airbrush was blocked it applied too much, so applying thinner layers would have made it even better.
