No worries buddy! Let me know if there are any models you'd like to see in particular. Between this video and the one on Morannon Orcs, you should be set for a while!
@@criticalhitwargaming5290 yes, i cant agree more. I have so many unpainted Miniatures from lotr and since they are a bit smaller i think contrast Paint is a great start to get them to a Tabletop ready State. Then continue work on them when you want at a later time
Super nice! I find that a gray primer followed by a white zenithal (airbrush or spray can, doesn´t matter) followed by a drybrush with white, brings out even more detail when painting with contrast paints. Basically, you get an edge highlight on a lot of areas, and it increases the painting time by a few minutes per model, so definitely worth it!
@@Njwobrien Unfortunately my main limitation is models, I can only paint what people send me for commissions or what I have in my own collection. If you're in the UK and have a Gondor/Easterling model you wanna chuck my way to be painted for the channel and sent back to you, I'd be eternally grateful!
@@criticalhitwargaming5290 Well, there ya go, an instructor! It's a treat to listen to someone speak who is economical with words and gets straight to the core 👏🏻🫡
@@criticalhitwargaming5290 I bought the two Towers game over 10 years ago and only ever got round to spraying the models. I still have them now but most of them have snapped spears or swords - still unpainted too.
I'd be interested in the highlighting video. The contrast paints look so good that I literally bought them all to do my riders. I'm mainly wondering if you'd do any highlighting on the horses where you've used contrast paint and what colours you'd use to highlight
You can indeed take them to the next level with some extra highlights, even over the top of contrast paints! I'll make a video on it at some point. Unfortunately many of the contrast paints look a bit... cartoon-like, for lack of better words, when used on more realistic models such as those found in LoTR.
@@criticalhitwargaming5290 they look fantastic on yours. Not cartoony at all. Though I did see on other videos that the lighter contrast paints can be difficult to work with in that sense. Nonetheless, I have no other colours for horse variety, so I'm interested to try with these paints. Hopefully I get the same result as you were able to. .
@@nickmeredith002 Ah apologies yeah I meant contrast paints outside the ones used in the video. The brighter colours like purples, yellows and blues look too vibrant on LOTR models which are more subdued for the most part. For coverage on horses like in the video, they're superb. Saves an unbelievable amount of time.
@@criticalhitwargaming5290 well this hasn't really worked. The contrast paints are causing everything to go really streaky and splotchy and it looks horrible. In order to combat this, the paint needs to be so thick that my snakebite leather is looking more like your cygor brown. I'm not quite sure how you're applying the paint and avoiding this, because as soon as I touch the miniature to apply the first coat, the brush strokes just create an instant mess of paint with uneven coverage that I'm then having to try and go over and redo later, which also makes things worse if it isn't dry.
@@nickmeredith002 That definitely shouldn't be happening. Something has gone wrong there for sure. You have spray-primed your models, right? If so, what undercoat did you use? There's no magic occurring in this video - I'm literally just dunking my brush in the pot and putting it straight on the model!
@Critical Hit Wargaming I mean I'm most interested in the knights of minas tirith, be good to see a speed paint on those mounted units, I imagine they aren't far from the rohirrim but I'm a typical guy and love visual aids haha. Osgiliath box can wait haha, but I can imagine that being a good next step with it just being released =)
@Andyyybeeeee I've done it a few times now, if you have one of the models send it to me in the post and I'll paint it and make a video out of it and then send it back to you. Ping me a message on Instagram or Facebook if you're interested.
Nice. Haven't used contrast colors before but they absolutely rocked on those horses! If I may ask, could you do video about painting some shiny armor as I am currently struggling to make it look good. Thx!
@@criticalhitwargaming5290 great! I'd like to see my reflection off of it. Half kidding, I'd like to do full ceremonial plate armor so it would not be too battle-worn
@@criticalhitwargaming5290 Been buying some Perry knights lately but what I have really tried to get shiny is painting lotr elves in steel color rather than gold. Also there's box full of Gondorian soldiers waiting there but they can be battle-worn steel which I am not too great at doing either.
Followed this exactly - thank you. As someone who is genuinely terrible at anything artistic this was perfect - simple to follow and they look great. By the way I think one or two of the paints you used are not in your list (in the description) - Castellan Green and Snakebite Leather. Do you have a preference on the kind of models you would like sent in to paint for your channel?
Thanks very much, I'm glad it helped! That's the aim of these, to make good results quick and easy to achieve. As for models, anything that I don't currently have really from AoS, 40k and MESBG!
@@criticalhitwargaming5290 Seems like Theoden is the only model left from the Pelennor fields box set without a video (and definitely the most intimidating one for me). Do you have any plans for Theoden? I'd be happy to supply the model.
@@mattgrimwade5380 I do have him, he's unfinished for me too! My main issue is finding the time at the moment. I'll try and get him done at the weekend to close the Pelennor Fields chapter!
There is one for Morannon Orcs, and for the Witch King and Troll. On the Good side, there's Riders/Warriors of Rohan and Warriors of the Dead. I just need to do Theoden and that's the whole Pelennor Fields box!
Just stumbled on this great video new subscriber here would love to see next steps can I ask how come you didn't use contrast on the green bit ? Whats the thoughts behind that sorry new to painting so all tips are great cheers
Both the contrast paints for the green (Creed Camo and Militarum Green) are both crap, basically. Their coverage is shite. It looks infinitely better using a proper paint.
That's only for the Basilicanum Grey horse. Basilicanum Grey straight out the pot goes very blotchy, whereas all the others are straight out the pot. Since making this video Army Painter have released a set of speed paints, and Gravelord Grey does a much better job for grey horses.
@@pray4plagues177 As with all paints, yes and no. They work slightly differently. Some of them are better, some of them are worse. In this case, the Contrast browns are better, but if I were to recommend two of the Army Painter ones for painting Rohan in particular, it would be Gravelord Grey and Hardened Leather.
