The animators gave Speed that blank stare whenever someone dies right in front of him, probably thinking he would look look introspective, contemplating man's inhumanity to man, but instead he just looks like he's thinking "Well, today *IS* Tuesday."
He took a page right from Bubble’s philosophy. “Mercy is for the *WEAK!”* ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4NrwVGvpE9k.htmlsi=bseh4XGpCNXHBg8d
@@rpghero46"Hey Speed these flowers are beautiful, I'd love to pick some!" "WE GOTTA GET OUTTA HERE!" *Begins buzzsawing the forest down just to spite Trixie*
@@ITSMRFOXY Mandela effect I guess, but it’s definitely “a” not “the”, old cartoons had that transatlantic speech pattern so you knew exactly what they were tryna say.
As long as I live, I’ll never get over those 5 frames of Sparky lying on the ground, rendered utterly broken and despondent by the betrayal of a man he thought was his friend.
And Trixie on her knees sliding into frame begging Speed to spare his life, with Speed replying "You live today, boy. But you will get no second chances."
@@Cr4z3d That’s what I though at first kinda. While that is what they did I’m pretty sure, It turns out that the Japanese version is way to fast compared to how they actually speak, too. Look it up, it’s hilarious. I don’t think they even pause between sentences at all.
2:58 That expression is chilling! No blinking, no looking away...he just coldly stares down and watches as two people die and offers zero help. I've said it before and I'll say it again...I seriously think Speed is a sociopath 😅. This is my first time seeing this particular clip and it's probably one of the most heartless! 😂
First there was Astro Boy,, Gigantor,, 8 man was corney,,, Kimba and the last of the Japanese imports from the 60's was Speed Racer. In Asia, his name was Go-Go
The entire scene at 1:52 fucking kills me. Speed bobbing up and down pretty much still frame looking like he needs to take the most violent shit of his life while the background moves the WRONG way he’s even running, them cutting to this VERY ugly motherfucker in a helicopter going EHEHEHEHEH with the most stereotypical villain face and laugh ever, the stupid ass completely unfitting music in the background, them cutting back to the very same shot of Speed, only for him to “Dematerialize into a mass of light” as old Funimation dub Goku puts it and straight up light speed yeet off to the side away from the helicopter somehow, and cause this guy to crash and die. On top of that it seems like he couldn’t care LESS about dying lmao. “Uh Oh”. Every other character in this show viscerally s c r e a m s when something happens to them death or otherwise. I don’t want context, I don’t need context. I’m sure I’ll watch this episode one day anyway lol, this is beautiful the way it is.
I remember an episode where they were racing near a volcano or something like that - very dangerous - and before the closing scene, and announcer said something like "50 racers entered, but now only three remain alive!" What race would just continue with a 90%+ casualty rate?
4:29 I WASNT FUCKING READY "ARE YOU MY BROTHER? MY BROTHER REX RACER?" *gets decked in the stomach by Rex* "OUGH" Also my partner just introduced me to this show and im hyperfixating really hard like im kinda ashamed at how bad it is
I still can’t get over Speed hearing the tragic tale of that kid who needed to win the money to save his sister, *than speeds up so he makes sure to win.*
It would be insulting to lose purposely because you pity someone. Is not what a man does. What a real man does is giving his all to win the race and have the honor of giving the money to the kid because that's what a man does!
@@ADSadachbiaand then Trixie purposely sabotaged him to lose in the end. And then the kid bragged that he beat Speed and that HE was the greatest racer now
To be fair, the clips people tend to single out do give a somewhat skewed view of how violent the show is, and the lack of context makes it ambiguous whether or not certain characters deserve to die. Overall, I think the real reason people consider Speed Racer a psychopath is the aesthetic of his character. Despite a quite macho personality, his features are unnervingly androgynous. His big anime eyes have this vacant stare devoid of emotion. His English voice actor delivers all his lines in this deadpan way that makes him seem really callous, especially when people are dying in front of him.
If you look, those two are also already wearing parachutes. Which means they took any possible extra parachute, just to ensure he would die a fiery death.
The one memory of Speed Racer I have was him showing his car to some rich guy, showing off all the advanced technological features, and the guy was like, "Sure, but where are all the weapons?" Can't remember Speed's response but it was probably "I don't need weapons to kill people".
That was the last episode I believe. It was the big reveal where Racer X takes off his mask to reveal that he really is Rex, which is why he always watches over Speed. However, he is some kind of intelligence agent and can’t allow Speed to know who he really is, so Rex knocks out Speed so he doesn’t find out.
If you told me that in Speed Racer there was a gang of bard-barians that threw axes at the Mach 5 and then began to softly strum their guitars as they asked Speed to give them the pineapple out of his car, I would believe you. This show is wild.
Kinda goes to show that chaos in anime didn't start with Pokémon in the '90s; chaos has always been in anime. While it's natural for a racing fan like me to be into Speed Racer, the original show had some of the best written stories of any show. It had a few duds here and there, and this show is very infamous for the terrible lip syncing and poor animation, but if you can get past those, Speed Racer really is one of the best animated shows of all time.
"You know, I never thought I'd be able to kill someone. The first time it felt wrong. Which is good, right? But now... it feels like winning." - _Speed Racer, apparently_
Years down the line speed is accosted by a young man. "SPEED! You murdered my father!" "Do you have any earthly idea how little that narrows things down?!"
I have watched Speed Racer multiple times over the years. How the hell did I forget "Aw Naw." "Oh yeah!" That right there is some of the best dialogue of the 20th century.
Getting drunk and/or high and watching speed racer is one of the FUNNIEST fucking things you can EVER do. The show becomes way too funny when intoxicated I remember there was a time me and some buddies laughed so hard it HURT while drunk watching this show lmfao, I was crying and tore the muscles in my chest 😂 Every little mannerism, every sentence, it was all fucking gold. The absurdity of the show just presents itself so much harder that way
