Get the right one NOT the cheapest, for years 1993 - 2000 ebay.to/2JfO34w AND years 2001-2002+ get model ebay.to/2LjiIhZ Get ONLY quality Speed Sensors. This fits lots of models by Nissan, Your ABS, Cruise control, and the computer needs the right sensor. *Numerous models of Ford use the Nissan transmission and computer.

Thank you for posting this! I went to a pick n pull yard and I was underneath the van for less than 5 minutes because of this video. Victory is MINE! -Feeling grateful.

Great video! Took me longer to get the van off/on the ground than it did to change the sensor. As John Daniel says, if you use a stubby screw driver as a lever and the transmission case as a fulcrum you can push the sensor out via the black attaching arm without even touching the plastic part of the sensor (I did take the screw all the way out to do this). The black arm sits between two metal rings and is the key to the whole operation. Also, I had more problems removing the wiring harness than anything else as there is not a lot of room to get hands up on both sides as needed to disengage the harness locks. Once the sensor is loose it will revolve and allow for better positioning of the wiring harness and the old brittle plastic locks. Anyway, thanks to John Daniel for posting this ... very, very useful.

Thanks John. Sometimes it works perfectly, sometimes stays on 0, sometimes reads 5 mph slow. It never jerks Getting a look at it soon.

Man you made that look simple. I hate front wheel drive cars, no room.

Its a 2000 we bought used for $2500 with 44,000 miles on it. Its also a style of build that allows you some access, most FWD cars are real crappy though for room to work.

this video was a great help. the part about backing the bolt out just enough and tapping with the screw driver made the biggest difference. My problem in my 2000 villager is that its stuck in 3rd gear “limp mode” or “saftey mode”. Advanced auto got a Code from my Check Engine light for a “Speed sensor” or also called the “Transmission Sensor” I replaced using this video and it did not fix my problem.. I re installed the old one did not Plug the sensor in, drove ur and discovered that it really is just the Speedometer Sensor. Movin On does anyone have ine of these Vans with m same Problem

I think you can pull that air cleaner on intake to bar hose off in about 5 minutes I think that's the easier way to go taking all that stuff off

How did you get your air filter in the box is what I want to know I got the filter BUT it would not fit and it was for a 1999 Nissan Quest

I wish you'd shown swapping that little gear over. Do I need snap ring pliers or what? Also, what's the proper troubleshooting for this? At this point, I just discovered my speedometer is not working. And I'm not sure its this part, although that's a great way of getting at it and I do appreciate it. Thanks!

atleast you can get your hands in to actually remove it, front wheel drives are getting a little roomier around the engines these days, i also like to give things a good soaking with penetrating lubricant it makes life so much easier well that and degreasing before working on a vehicle. good tip; on the vibrating needle = dodgey speed sensor , never thought of that. and ofcourse reseting the computer to fix weird engine behaviour after the install

why are we replacing?????? how about some trouble shooting that leads up to the replacement symptoms to look for?????!!!!!!!
@JOHNDANIEL1

Cruise control failure, ABS acting up, Speedometer not working, Transmission shifting odd with any of the previous issues combined.

thanks John for the good tips. unfortunately, only the plastic part of the sensor came out. do you have a trick to get the aluminum part out? i hope the gear will still be on it. also could you send a link to shop for the gear? thanks much
@JOHNDANIEL1
@JOHNDANIEL1 6 лет назад
If you broke the plastic top, you will need some small prying bars. Heat the case with a 1500 watt hair dryer, get it HOT, to expand the metal on the trans case then you have to pry it out.

That gear can be gotten at any dealer web site for Nissan. Hope you did not lose it.

Both links go to the sensor so neither are the gear. I am thinking my 2007 quest may have a partially stripped gear as the speedometer is working off and on.
@JOHNDANIEL1
@JOHNDANIEL1 6 лет назад
+Larry Williams Actually working on and off is a symptom of sensor failure. If the gear is busted it will not work at all. The inside magnetic coil being shorted usually makes it work intermittently when temps and conditions allow the wires to make contact in it.
@JOHNDANIEL1
@JOHNDANIEL1 6 лет назад
+Larry Williams If you need a gear, the part number is same as most all Nissan Ford associated transmissions since gear size no longer matters with electronic speed sensors. You can get it from many models at a auto salvage.

Thank you for the video. I have 2001 Nissan Quest. When car gets warm and sits at a light or is parked while running for a bit the speedo starts dancing, fades to 0, and the trans stays in 3rd gear activating some kind of rev limiter that prevents rpm over 2000. After running at about 40 mph for a few minutes the speedo comes back and we can drive normal again. We can also put car in neutral, turn overdrive off, and put back in gear and it will fix it for the most part. Does that sound like the speed sensor too you?
@JOHNDANIEL1
@JOHNDANIEL1 6 лет назад
Yes. Shift points, Idle, and the entire vehicle can get bad results from a failing speed sensor. Taking it out of OD is a sign that your putting it into basically manual shift mode and it resets parameters for a little while. Replace the sensor, but DON'T pinch pennies, get the right one.

Thank you for the quick response. I was able to find a great resource for Factory Service Manuals. I believe you said you had a 2000 so here is the link. www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Quest/2000_Quest/ I copied all of the PDF files to a directory on my computer and it works great. When I click on the hyper links in the document it takes me to the exact place. This is my first time seeing something like this FSM and my mind is blown. Makes me want to kick myself for wasting $15 on the Haynes. Thanks again.

I have a 94 Nissan quest the problem started cold warm up the transmission don't shift into gear it does an it out acts like it low but it's full
@JOHNDANIEL1

Probably flow starvation. Filter change on them is very important and ONLY use the Nissan approved ( not autozone approved LOL) transmission fluid (USE amzn.to/2NuBdV5 ) back in it. ATN Beck-Arnley 94 Quest filter kit amzn.to/2L5IkR That transmission on a full flush is about 6 .5 quarts, i'd just get 2 gallons, and only fill it with as much as you remove but be sure to catch it as it drains in a tote or pan. Last thing could be converter or pump failure, but that trans is insane durable.

Would it work the same on a 2013 quest ?
@andrewseven6571
@andrewseven6571 4 года назад
hello friend. I changed the fluid and the car (NISSAN QUEST 1994 ) runs great, but in 100 miles 2 times the car did not shift the speeds, only P N D 1 2, but when D did not changed the speeds, it stayed in 1st. The second time this happened i noticed when i turned off and on inmidiately started shifting again. It looks like the car has a small or failing alternator because it turns CHECK ENGINE some times could that be the problem?
@JOHNDANIEL1
@JOHNDANIEL1 4 года назад
Check the Gear Position Indicator Switch(GPIS) on the transmission. Try to hold onto the shift lever slightly pulling it up/down keeping it still in D, to one side or the other to see if a short, fractured plastic GPIS body, is causing a short that makes the transmission think it is not in D.
@andrewseven6571
@andrewseven6571 4 года назад
@@JOHNDANIEL1 Hello thanks for the response. The Check engine light was just a loose wire. But, about the transmision, after i changed the fluid the car runs ok, but sometimes it has hard shift only when i change gears, but when running is fine. bUT two times in 100 miles after changing the fluid it, stayed in first when shift to D. The second time i just turned the car off and on and fixed the problem. What do you think? May be using Lucas Stop Slip or LIQUID MOLY ATT additive could be a solution the problem?

Loss of power? Define your issue.

Јоhn Daniel I have a 05, Quest. I was getting codea p0300, p0302 . I replaced the coil packs and spark plugs. While driving, The van lost all power until it finally died. Then it cranks back up it runs for 2 seconds then all power is gone when I accelerate. So I thought maybe the acceleration sensor? I’m going nuts....thanks for the reply.
@JOHNDANIEL1
@JOHNDANIEL1 5 лет назад
Check your voltage with car running, if its below 13 volts, replace alternator is likely. If these drop low voltage, they will fail like yours is doing. Other option is battery, have both alternator and battery load tested or use multi meter to verify full 13+ volts in system engine running. If your volts are low, the car will die when extra voltage is drawn for injectors and coils to accelerate. Other common issue, check engine ground wires and like many people, add additional 10 awg ground wire from battery to somewhere on engine metal.
@JOHNDANIEL1
@JOHNDANIEL1 5 лет назад
JUST REMEMBERED - Other possible problem is actually most likely, the Crank Position Sensor !!! I had 4 in shop in last 3 years with similar issues, Crank Sensor, its a Hall Effect sensor based on engine rotation to fire the coils. It will be intermittent in fails. Find yours ( its style ) ebay.to/2OPXcTv and replace it. Most are replaced by 80,000 miles.
