Hi Rocketman, the Speed Twin looks just perfect, with the black wheels, also now even better with the matching mud guards, I have a 2021 Speed Triple RS and added a carbon rear hugger to match the Triumph carbon front mudguard, also reference to the off screen click I can recommend a full knee replacement. ☺️

In retrospect, after viewing your walk-around of the bike and examining the existing color scheme, I must agree that gold wheels would be a bit much. I would definitely leave them as is and not even consider changing the forks. You do indeed have a beautiful Speed Twin! Ride safe my friend…

Ah ha! Viola! I have it! The concession to gold wheel affectionatoes. While painting the wheels a matching BMW carbon "black" and polishing the rims to bare metal, (wait for it), paint the front brake disc carriers, now black, gold to match and balance the gold chain. Just a touch of front end bling. Clear off the coffee table, dear.

@@RocketMan_Moto Oh oh. I fear a miscommunication. I'm not sure by what you are reffering to as Brembos. To be clear, let's practice the latest in human engineering...subtraction. Less is more. I am not reffering to neither the front brake calipers, nor the caliper carriers, but the disc carriers, beautifully styled to resemble the "spokes" of the wheels. (Wow. Three negatives in one sentence. Talk about miscommunication).

Glad you took this decision. As cool as colored wheels are, IMO it would have started to be a bit much. My daughter's Yamaha MT 125 has very "loud" neon-orange wheels. Otherwise, the bike is grey and some kind of green. But on this bike, it is fine, as this orange also can be found on the tank and I think tail. If gold wheels, maybe some other traces on gold on other parts of the bike (such as the logo or a tank stripe). Ideally, in the exact same shade.

Looking good Rocketman. I like the changes you’ve made and I think gold forks on the Speed Twin would look the Mutt’s Nuts with gold wheels but I think you’re right it’s impossible to justify the price. So have you thought about getting them wrapped? Modern wraps are cheap, easy to install, offer protection to the original components, and are 100% reversible if you change your mind and who knows it might encourage you to pull the trigger on a proper set of gold forks or it might stop that itch.

I really like what you've done with the carbon black paint. With its blue hue, the yellow writing on the wheels looks great against it, given they're color opposites. It's subtle, but enough. I agree that gold or bronze wheels would bring too much of another color in to the mix, and they'd clash. Cost aside; gold Ohlins against the blue and black though, 👍🏻.

I’m late to the party and it isn’t my money but I think doing something to the wheels would compliment the bike. I love the look of the gold wheels on the Yamaha. I also agree that the rest of the Yamaha colors are discordant and make it look like a parts bin bike. I think that gold would work but I understand your reasoning regarding the layers (I hadn’t thought of it that way). How about a pinstripe on the wheels? The wheels and tires seem to just disappear beneath the Speed Twin. Silver? Really, it is a nice problem to have.

Wise decision! Your bike looks great as it is now. The rear OEM mudguard sits perfect, and I really like the new tank color. Gold wheels would make it loose the classy look, they are nice on the street triple RS but besides what you mentioned about it, it’s a completely different bike than the speed twin, in my opinion it just would not look great. One question: I have the OEM rear plate hanger on mine, but the reflector sits lower than yours. Did you adjust or mod yours?

The more I think about it, the more I feel gold or bronze would be too risky, as you say. Re. the rear plate, I have the tail tidy from TEC Parts in the UK. I reused the factory reflector, which can be adjusted for height with the TEC mount.

The XSR900 picture you show looks like some middle aged rappers bike to me. I guess it's fine if someone is a middle aged rapper, but not my style ! The seat on the XSR900 is just so wrong. They really needed a flatter seat, and also make the tank or some panel cover over the main bike frame a bit more. If they made a few changes (mainly the seat) to the XSR900, I could be very interested (without the gold wheels that is ) I do love a good triple. But back onto the main subject of your video, my observation is the rate you like to change your bikes, I don't think I'd want to spend a 2,000 Euros / £s etc on swapping out forks for some gold bling. Might as well save the cash for the next bike change. That's unless the Speed Twin is a "keeper" . The only point to a 2,000 Euros fork change to me would be for handling or comfort, and if I was going to keep the bike for a long time. I like the black wheels on my '19 Speed Twin. I'm not much off a bike cleaner ( unlike Stuart Fillingham or TMF ), so gold wheels would usually look really rubbish on any bike I had. I like looking at spoked wheels and lots of chrome on other peoples' bikes, but for my own I like the "it still looks okayish even when it's dirty look" !!!

OMG what a dilemma to have! Sorry I haven't commented and been able to add my assistance as I have been otherwise occupied recently. How about a colour matching the headers/chain to carry it through on the bike rather an obvious bronze or in your face gold although I am a sucker for a bike with gold wheels? Another bright shade might look incongruous on the eye? Many paint shops can match colours to your choice. Maybe get some swatches test patches done and place them in, around or on your wheels? You could still have ostensibly black/dark wheels but some other colour added to match chain/headers/ any other colour on the bike you wish. Might cost a little more. Just a thought. I think from what you have said about your Speed Twin you clearly prefer the understated look as your decision to not change the colour of your wheels from black and leave as is is probably for the better and following your instincts. There is nothing stopping you changing in future. Well at least you haven't done anything costly or irreversible yet that you regret. I would explore the swatch test patch avenue if you are still thinking of changing the wheel colour. Also, would changing the colour of your bike's wheels affect your Triumph warranty if indeed it is still within warranty? Don't know. The fact that you are talking about gold forks, does this mean you are thinking about ...... chopping your Speed Twin in for another bike??? But even if you did want to change the wheel colour, you were given sensible advice to wait until you need to change tyres. I would definitely do that. Also I would recommend Michelin Road 5 or 6 tyres when you need to change your tyres. They are dual compound and have a harder compound in the central band of the tyre. The grip in the wet, if you ever get rain in the Algarve, with these tyres is better than most other road focussed tyres in the dry, except obviously track tyres on a warm dry sunny day which are uber sticky. I have been very happy with Michelin Road 5s on my Speed Triple RS which came with Pirelli Rosso Corsas on it iirc. Such are my riding capabilities and the crap British weather for me the Michelin Road 5 excellent wet grip and of course dry grip are a no brainer for me plus many other owners reporting getting quite high mileages out of them under spirited riding. I had them fitted when I bought it. I have not done a huge mileage on them yet but their performance has been faultless, no slips/wobbles what ever and totally happy with them. ATB.

The bike is astonishing, no more tampering is needed if you'd ask me. The Öhlins on the front sound like overkill considering the speed twin is a modern classic with dual shocks on the rear. I'm sure the bike in its current condition offers you enough to enjoy it on Portuguese public roads and I would also put my money on guessing you're not planning to become a track-day warrior with this motorcycle. Furthermore, the investment one makes in enhancing a motorcycle will render marginal gains upon reselling it compared to a stock one, hence, such a change would probably be a bad financial decision. The fact that you spoke of the seriousness of the topic with a pinch of irony makes me believe you have a healthy sense of humour which is an important quality to navigate through life. Cheers

I’m curious. Would your Triumph dealer get a Truxton RS and swap the top yolk for a Speed twin’s with handlebars? Then swap the seat for a flat comfort seat. Wouldn’t that be something?
@RocketMan_Moto
@RocketMan_Moto 2 года назад
A comfort seat option would be nice, but I'm not sure about adding the bars off a Thruxton. The riding position is a bit too hard-core for me :)

@@RocketMan_Moto I think you misunderstood me. I wasn’t thinking of your bike. That well worth leaving alone, except for the comfort seat which I’ve heard that improves the environment of the bike considerably. I was thinking if you had to “upgrade” the Speed twin, would a Truxton RS with handlebars instead of clip-ons and a straight seat sway you?

@@RocketMan_Moto the forza 300 before the 350 has a weird problem after around 5000kms, it starts to have steering wobble at over 60kmph. It stops if you change the front tyre, but repeats after 3000kms or so. I dunno if the 350 forza or adv also have it, so I’m wondering your experience.

Are you putting too much thought into this? Don't let the color of the chain play any role. As that is so easy to change. Those silver bits on the bike just looks cheap. You should discarded that color and be done with it. If you do the bronze wheels, just replace the silver color with bronze and be done with it. And respray the end can of the exhaust as well in bronze. The rest of the pipes already got a bronze hint/hue as it was heated. And that would give you a true one off color that stands out against the other twins. If this was up to me I would ditch the blue in the process. Two colors only. Black and bronze. And of course, I would loose the stock headlight in favor of a "skinny" one. The stock Pinocchio headlight have gotten old. Not retro cool, just pain old and fugly. A quick fix if you don't have a budget for Ohlin forks is to do carbon fiber "pipes" beneath and above the triple clamps and get those painted to the color of your choice. Those will the like and out skin or fork socks if you like. No added weight to speak of and easy DIY project.

Gold wheels NO - unless you add gold somewhere else - it will just highlight the exhaust discolouration ! Its interesting to see where ones eyes go with different bike colours.. This one is tank(see what marque it is) then exhaust down pipes, then engine, then scan back and up towards the seat, then flick back and travel to the front end. Compare with this : Tank, forks, front discs (following the gold) and back ! silodrome.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Custom-Triumph-Speed-Twin-17-2048x1361.jpg Edit - if you add a third bright colour (gold,green!) be sure to add the same colour elsewhere to direct the viewer around the bike nicely for...balance? Edit2 - this is why women take time to choose their outfits, they are mindful of the aesthetic - the best outfits dont have one odd colour - the handbag or shoes will match something etc- colours : its a funny thing .
