Dave, you should add one more part to your Programming Series that describes and shows the procedure on how to fool the Spektrum programmer into allowing you to set up for "elevons" while using the Safe Model Builder to set up for three position switch with SAFE.

Hello Dave: Thanks for these videos - I learned so much! Not sure if you still answer questions, but I have one... I am a beginner and use SAFE for takeoffs and landings. I discovered that with SAFE on, the throw of the elevator is greatly reduced - so much so that I am having trouble taking off [I am flying on floats]. If I turn SAFE off, the elevator has enough throw. I tried adjusting the priority in Spektrum programmer in the hopes that when I have the elevator at full stick the SAFE on elevator would not be active, but that didn't work. the throw is still reduced. What am i missing? Thanks, Paul

Dave, I'm trying to set up Elevons and there is no selection for that in the spektrum programmer? How do you do that when you are using a "previously used" AR636A from a BNF plane that had normal wing settings originally, not elevons?

I have a question here, I'm setting up a Timber x 1.2 and the defaults configurations from Spektrum, uses the elevator as reverse on the receiver, not sure I should leave it or follow your recommendation and un-tick the reserve for elevator? Thanks !
@TheRCAirMarshall
@TheRCAirMarshall 4 года назад
Nelson Gull if it’s reversed in the Receiver that’s fine. What you don’t want to do with an AR636 is reverse anything in the Transmitter. Hope that helps! In the Transmitter your main three axis, aileron, elevator, and rudder, should not be reversed.

My spektrum programmer shows Heading aswell as rate and gain, what do I do with that? It also has an option for receiver orientation which yours doesnt seem to
@TheRCAirMarshall
@TheRCAirMarshall 4 года назад
Brian Jones thanks for watching! This is because you are running the 1.xx firmware in the receiver so it is AS3X only. Heading is for heading hold gain. These options are not available in the SAFE firmware, version 2.xx. If you’re wanting to program SAFE you’ll need to load the 2.xx firmware into the receiver.

Outstanding video series! I appreciate that you are keeping things straightforward and not assuming we already understand the programming process. Just curious - how close are the factory settings for roll, pitch, and yaw when the receiver comes programmed from Horizon Hobby compared to what how you set them up in this video? I just ordered a cable so I can program a couple receivers I have but I afraid by just plugging it in and looking at the factory settings I might screw something up. Thanks!

Steve Clough thanks! The receivers that ship in Bind and Fly planes from Horizon are usually spot on! This is more for those airplanes from places like FMS, Freewing, Flightline, Dynam, Etc that don’t have SAFE in them already. Using the factory settings as a guide will definitely help you to understand what you’re looking at.

@@TheRCAirMarshall that's exactly what I am currently up to. Just bought a Flightline P-38 and really want to have SAFE for an insurance policy. I rarely use it but if I get in trouble, I like knowing I can flip a switch if I can't correct the problem quickly. Now that I've watched the whole series I think I understand that SAFE Select is really just turning on Beginner Mode as opposed to hitting a panic button. Do I have that correct? Thanks again for such a fantastic series!

Hi my hurricane needs the throttle calibrating I presume I will need to rebind after doing this to ensure that failsafe doesn't go to full throttle on signal loss.

You shouldn’t need to rebind after a throttle calibration. Your failsafe is typically set at the time of binding, so calibrating the throttle won’t change its preset.

Hi Dave! Great videos in the PL for the AR636 programming. Very easy to digest and follow. Thanks for taking the time to film these. I have a question regarding the gain and priority in reference to your personal preference numbers for the roll, pitch and yaw for the different flight modes on the rx. Do you recommend the same settings for a beginner setting this rx on a particular plane. Also, do these settings apply to any type of plane? prop, edf, etc. Does the size of the plane make a difference? I recently crashed a perfectly good pawnee brave using settings from an aeroscout s 1.1 :( super bummed about it but will not quit until i get this down. Thanks in advance for all your help and recommendations!

Where do you get the Eflite planes from? I want to set up a Coscendo Advanced on a ar636b

Do all these new receivers like the AR8360T program the same way, using like the new NX10 transmitters
@TheRCAirMarshall
@TheRCAirMarshall 3 года назад
Yes, the AR637T, AR8360T, AR630, and AR631 all utilize forward programming straight from the transmitter. No PC required!

another dumb question dave lol. ok lets say i set up a 3 position switch for your 3 flight modes i.e gyro off, gyro on, gyro on with safe. thats basically like having safe select correct. im just puttin it on a switch im not used to. also the bluetooth setup isnt mandatory, just make sure your control surfaces are going the right way when your still on the ground and reverse them if needed by puyying the rx into your pc again. im just sayin because i dont have the bluetooth dongle. i know its a pain but is that ok. this way i know its right before i get in the air thats all
@TheRCAirMarshall
@TheRCAirMarshall 4 года назад
Yes, Michael you’re getting it. You can assign the 3 receiver modes to whatever switch you want on your transmitter. You don’t NEED a Bluetooth module but I would certainly recommend it! You can do everything from a PC if that’s what you want to do, just plug in the USB programming cable and do it all from the Spektrum Programmer Desktop App.
