the spektrum DX6 like its batteries . standard "AA" batteries don't last very long . I added the spektrum optional li-ion pack and charger and here is how its done ( there are NO INSTRUCTIONS W/ BATTERY for install or charge time
First thank you for the video and second any company that would swap polarity on their plugs Is screaming at you that there creeps. All plugs are designed for the outside to be negative that is standard anyone that goes against that is a business you want to avoid just because they're telling you their creepy
Thank you for a very good video. A little more detail on the rubber piece on the back of the battery cover before you put the cover back in, so you know to use extra pressure to push it down and in. Also after you created a great video, you left our plugging in the charger to power and what to look for when it is charging. People have commented and asked about no sign of charging taking place and how long to charge for. Hopefully that is normal, no sign of charging. And someone stated in answering comments on time to charge: Initial charge should be aprox 2/3 hours if battery arrived at half capacity (250mah). Won't hurt to let it charge longer. Read 8.2 after charge? So even with the comment a question mark on reading 8.2 was noted. Thanks again. I followed the video and successfully got the new Li-Ion Transmitter Battery installed into my new DX6e Transmitter. I checked the manual and nothing is mentioned about how long to charge the battery or any indication the battery is charging. Only says to disconnect the charger once the battery is charged.
@@silversurfer805 I no longer have that radio. I moved to a 14 channel radio for various aircraft. I really liked that particular Spektrum and i always plugged it in after a day of flying if i was going flying in the next few days. If i wasn’t doing any flying for the next couple weeks i would plug it in the night before. Monitoring your voltage is always smart. Take not of voltage at the beginning and end of your day of flying. That battery should last a long time but paying attention to any batteries performance is always important. I am happy that the video was helpful. Happy landings-
I don't know why Horizon/spektrum didn't put a light on the charger. If I flew all day, put mine on an overnight charge after a couple full days of flying. Watch your screen and set you low batt alarm.
Yes, it is normal. You can plug it in and just let it go. The battery will stop taking the charge at around 8.4 volts. The actual charger is in/part of the battery pak & the wall wart is just a power supply. I don't know why Horizon did it this way, but I almost guarantee it was to increase profit margins. Plug it in and walk away. I plug my transmitter in in the morning and unplug it around dinner time.
Thank you for posting this video! It was sure enough was very helpful and I don't think I could have done it without following your steps which made it acceptably easy without all the unexpected guaranteed frustration! And that's why I wanted to take the time to personally thank you! *And yes you're absolutely right that Spectrum should simply put this upgrade on their line of transmitters instead of all this worry and inconvenience.
Thank you for the video. I didn't see the area to put the wires in. I had it stuff in there to the point that I couldn't remove the battery cover. But with a small flat tip screw driver and some gentle finesse I was able to get the battery cover off and do it correctly. Your video is much appreciated! Thanks William
Thanks so much for the clarification that the AC charger is sold separately. I would have been extremely frustrated to have to find that out, the hard way, after receiving the battery.
Hey. thanks for watching the vid. I had tried a couple 12v adaptors and the only one that worked/fit was the one from spektrum. it was a shady move for them to not just make it so it would accept a common 12V wall charger.
Initial charge should be aprox 2/3 hours if battery arrived at half capacity (250mah) Won't hurt to let it charge longer. Read 8.2 after charge? Your good.
what up Garry ? best thing to do is download manual at www.horizon.com click spectrum and then manual PDF if you get low voltage alarm in fight ? you yell out EMERGENCY LANDING ,,,LANDING RIGHT NOW.. on the subject of batteries , if you have not purchased one , get yourself a cell checker and keep a close eye on the condition of your lipo packs ..an over discharge can kill the battery . cheap insurance ! hope your having a great flying season ! will
I'm pretty sure Gary is talking about the default alarm setting of 6.4 volts next to the battery type setting in System Settings. I curious too, if this is a good transmitter low battery setting for the LiIon upgrade.
I think the default is 6.4 volts, 6.8 gives you a good buffer... I set mine mine at 6.8 If you go 6.4 I recommend jumping to 6.8 after a season or two..once a battery gets tired it will hold a decent voltage but will/can dump rather quickly, when compared to a young pack.
Thank God for RU-vid and folks like you! It’s been 40 years since I have had any sort of RC controller in my hands and nothing comes with instructions anymore! This was very helpful.
@@FourthWayRanch JR and spectrum are center pin negative & the ring is positive unless you have a new Spektrum radio with SD card then AS FAR AS I UNDERSTAND..polarity doesn’t matter. I can’t clearly remember that specific charger. I started flying Futaba again after several unexplained signal loss with my two Spektrum radios. I’m sure Spektrum is fine, i personally didn’t have a positive experience.
I would of never figured this out without your help. Thanks! Watching this 4 years later. Funny you mention getting a Conscendo I just got the Conscendo Evolution. Cool plane
I have the same battery and and the same charger. The yellow label on the side of my charger box says it is not compatible with the DX6. What’s the story on that ?
The video was helpful in how to make the change over to the chargeable pack but I can't find anywhere in the manual that tells how long it takes to fully charge the TX. Does that info appear on the screen? How do you know it's fully charged. Like you, I think they should have added a charge light, like everything else has, to alert you as to when it's fully charged.
Okay, so I always check batteries as soon as I get them. You have a 500mah battery and it should have arrived about half charged (250mah) It should take about 2.5 hours , but don't be afraid to plug it in and let it charge even longer. I plug my Fitaba 14SG overnight. After you charge the battery, power up your transmitter , Voltage should read 8.2v you may even see 8.4v for a short time. Good luck , feel free to ask questions. Blue sky's!! Will -
It is! a good rechargeable "AA" is a great option , just make sure you set your transmitter for the battery chemistry ! alkaline or li-ion ...even with disposable batteries. Will
I don't know how people get 10 hours on AA. I own the transmitter and I get around 45 minutes with good Duracell batteries !.. I think the only way is either use the re-chargeable AA or the LIPO !
one thing I don't like,.....there is no charge indicator light on my DX6 or my Lith-ion pack transformer... ....what are the recommendations for charging and caring for these batteries...memory issues ?...over-charging ? ... over -dis-charging....? I bought my Tx used and never was able to find any literature about this subject.....
horizon has stated that there is a smart circuit in the lio-ion pack in this video and can not be over-charged while using the included charger.. I find the info they provide or a lack there of ,,to be a real pain in the A==! when in doubt , charge ! I charge my dx8 and the indicator shuts off around the 6-8 hour mark every time ... I charge the day/night before I go flying . i also charge if my tx has sat for a week plus . i can also charge with the same charger i use for my flight packs . i feel that is the best way to charge tx packs . the wall charger is like a wall charger that comes with a ready to run rc car or truck ...it works ..but is a vey basic and crude way to charge. sorry for the late response .
Know what you are talking about when you make a video. You don’t plug a charger into that battery. It has the charger built into it. You plug a 12-14 volt power supply into only. If you plug a charger into it, you will damage the battery!
i have heard you can and then ii heard , NO you cant. i use the charger that i use for my flight packs . the only difference i see in the wall wart charger from spectrum and a 12v AC adaptor is that the Spektrum has a longer..end. I really wish these designers would think this stuff through.. great products ..too many loose ends and vague details .
