"The story of John McGeoch, one of the most innovative and influential guitarists of the past thirty years.
Born in Scotland and raised in Manchester and London, John McGeoch was described as the "post punk Jimmy Page", a man with an experimental, uncompromising and unique style.
He was a distinctive player who could conjure up dramatic riffs and sounds that had never been heard before.
During his life he performed with no fewer than nine bands on the cutting-edge of music, including Magazine, Siouxsie and the Banshees and Visage.
Yet, despite this rich musical pedigree, his story has remained untold - until now.
Radio 2s Pete Mitchell talks to Howard Devoto, Siouxsie Sioux and Johnny Marr among others, as he shines a light on the life of this unsung guitar hero."
It's sad how completely obscure and underrated John McGeoch is. I stumbled upon this by chance and decided to upload it here for more people to listen to. Apologies for the lack of video content. It's more about the sound anyways. Enjoy.

The Siouxsie & the Banshees gig recorded in Koln around this time/ era was THE best Live gig I've seen of any post Punk band ... John's playing was mesmerising & combined with Siouxsies amazing vocals at this gig & an amazing set list for me is most watched RU-vid & most influential on me re song writing at the moment.

Spellbound: The Story of John McGeoch (5/6) 1419pm 16.4.23 i think the implication by, vapid wit, suggests that john mcgeoch was the mover and shaker of the bands he played with. i dont think so... i think devoto and Adamson and shelley etc knew their onions enough to note what they wanted to do with their musical careers..... a talented guitarist, for sure... with the obligatory highland sound...big country had similar sounding guitar style as did glasvegas...

wished they talked more about the PiL era. it was sort of rushed. would also be nice to have some McGeoch audio clips in the whole interview.

Hurdy gurdy - is a string instrument that has round discs that spin and rub the strings when you wind a handle at the end around and around and put your fingers on the strings.

Dang! I saw PIL in 1984. I wish I had seen them with McGeoch!

I think that McGeoch was the guitarist who Sioux and Severin were waiting for to help them reinvent Psychedelic rock music. Which they so brilliant did.

why gloss over the Armoury Show? John's work on this is better than anything he did with PiL

Johnny Marr knows the score. The only other guitarist that was fiercely as good as McGeoch was Keith Levene. bang on Johnny That's what I said. The only problem I thought was by the time he had finally joined PIL 3 years later (too late) Mc Geoch had ditched his trademark arpeggio guitar that he was loved for , And was now playing Power chords with PIL. I went to see them at the Hammersmith Odeon in Londpon 1989 and they were crap.The last PIL album with Mc Geoch 'That What is Not' had some great songs on it and some bad one too But the album was the antithesis of what PIL had been all about at the beginning. get rid of rockn'roll. Now they were playing Cock Rock Led Zeppelin covers like 'Kashmir' Mc Geoch should have joined PIL staight after Keith Levene left cos Lydons cararet band went on to long ,angered fans and Lydon lost his cred over night.

Spellbound: The Story of John McGeoch (5/6) 1422pm 16.4.23 wow. you heard the new skits by PIL...? i think the cabaret ship has sunk in that respect. a band of note, i agree. but i dont think these old hags are doing anything worthy of note. n.b kids!!! we maybe have too much respect for the old guard of punk etc etc etc - maybe time to kick 'em all into touch and do sommat new... and noisier..? the power of auras egos and b.s...

gizmo and a cello sound? that's just an ebow and it works with a magnet and electricity. no cogwheels that pluck strings. what is this the 19th century?
@JamesCurtisOKC
@JamesCurtisOKC 7 лет назад
they're talking about a device invented by godley and creme. called a gizmotron. he used it on into the light supposedly. i thought it was an ebow too but they accomplish the same thing soundwise, but way more complicated mechanically.
