Following the publication of UNI 10411-1 for the modifications of existing lifts, attention was raised on the terminations of the ropes. In the case of shelter sockets (cast heads) it has been clarified that these shall be made following the guideline of EN 13411-4.
The method of making cast heads has always been a topic of discussion among lift technicians. In order to fully address this rope termination process, we shall first get rid of a cognitive bias called the "Dunning-Kruger effect". Subsequently it will be possible to examine the contents of the technical standard EN 13411-4.
