Spencer Lee and the Mindset Behind the Upset

Everything Matt Ramos spoke about in his interviews related to mindset. He says he “spoke this into existence”. We talk about this all the time and the importance of MENTAL REPS. You make your goals public. You say your mindset principles out loud. Not to be cocky, but to convince yourself you can do it. It’s possible to succeed if you’re the only person in the world who believes in you. It’s impossible to succeed if you don’t believe in yourself, no matter who else may believe you can do it. Spencer Lee is a great champion and still may be the best wrestler in the entire tournament. But they all can be beat. If you’re not working on your mindset, you’ll likely lose to someone who is.

Wrestling is finally getting into this mental realm. This is not only the secret of winning, but also the future of competitive wrestling. Hat's off to Mr. Ramos, moreover, compassion and empathy to Spencer Lee and his family. Go Wrestling!

It's great that they have so much coverage of this level of wrestling for kids to watch and to formulate their own dreams. Their own vision. Having a vision at the highest level is absolutely key! The coverage wasnt always like it is today. There was a time when college wrestling was barely covered or not at all.

@@WrestlingMindset It kinda stinks bc I think all of us were wanting to witness history with two 4-timers in the same year. But either way, we may have the same opportunity to do it next year. Love or hate him, Spencer is an amazing ambassador for our sport. And with all the young talent on display this year, I can’t help but think about the future of USA wrestling just keeping the Russians up at night.🙏🏼

Simon Biles "choked?" I'd give that statement a lot more focus and maturity. We ALL know why she didn't finish her competition. That took courage. Her decision was supported by MANY.

@nazahmed8164
@nazahmed8164 Год назад
Everything you said was resonating until the comment about Simone Biles choking. Perhaps it's just a different perspective possibly resulting from a generational attitude, but she made a strategic choice that something was off and risk of injury was too high to continue. As someone as accomplished as her with a long future ahead of her, this makes sense as the long view. Growing up, Kerri Strug's pushing through the pain was glorified at '96 Olympics. However, we learned after the fact that 1) her sacrifice was not necessary since team USA would've won anyway 2) she sustained an injury that prematurely ended her career. We also learned that the coach pressured her to continue and contributed to that outcome. He bears responsibility for coercing an impressionable young athlete who was seeking his approval. As Cael Sanderson just said this is just a game and there are more important things in life. Sacrificing one's quality of life isn't worth short-term gain, and it's a good thing the newer generations are realizing this at a young age. We're seeing something similar now with Spencer lee's decision to medically forfeit. Seeing some of the fans turn on him and ridicule his decision is awful. Whatever caused him to make that decision whether physical or mental, it's his decision and it's justified.

Idk what Ramos mindset was in the finals but it wasn't the same as the semis. I'm sure there is some kind of drop off when you beat the standard in your mind. But still have another match afterwards who in your mind isn't on the same level as lee. Because as an long time iowa fan, I was rooting for Ramos to win. But what we got was a very subpar performance. I was disappointed with the effort.

@azteacher26
@azteacher26 Год назад
So true and he overly relied on that one trick with Ramos. When the going gets tough you fall back on your training and if your coaches don't give you enough tools and identify your weakness you're going to get fucked. I can't believe brands didn't help Lee develop an approach to Ramos after Ramos caught him in their last encounter. There's also something deeper going on here. Iowa has a problem with hiring coaches that are gifted wrestlers. I'll say this till I'm blue in the face: gifted athletes normally make lousy coaches. It's the mediocre athlete that works to become great that often makes a great coach. Mark Rippetoe talks a lot about this concept ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JQ-MAUz4eSI.html Also hello from AZ!

Carter Starocci is currently one of the only wrestler to be a potential 5 timer with Levi Haines also maybe being there if he wins 2023 NCAAs. Everyone lose and I mean everyone, even Yianni as seen before. He is human people needed that loss to realize that which is incredibly sad.
