This takes me back to a great point in my life. I was a kid most of my childhood idols were still living, tv was great, music was great, a lot of family members were still living and people in the wrold were less sensitive and more caring. Man I need a time machine.
Yes @@steveb6290Should've stayed in L.A. also, the show got bounced around different time slots Season 1 was up against Friday Night MTV Cops Miami Vice before moving to Tuesday Night, Season 2 was given the Saturday Night 10/9 Central Time Slot against HUNTER with Fred Dryer and Stepfanie Kramer and Season 3 was given the Sunday Night 8/7 Central Time Slot against TV's #1 Mystery Drama Murder She Wrote before getting moved once again
and R.I.P. to Ron McLarty Avery Brooks, Barbara Stock and Carolyn McCormick are the only surviving cast members of Spenser for Hire also, R.I.P. to the Executive Producer of Season 2 of Spenser for Hire in Juanita Bartlett who also had a hand in The Rockford Files, Tenspeed and Brown show, The Greatest American Hero and the Television Version of In the Heat of the Night
One of the best shows in the 80's! I do prefer season 2's mellow intro theme vs. season 1& 3. BTW, very few men can rock a popped collar with jacket like Spenser and Hawk!
Tell me about it. I just finished reading Promised Land- the first RBP novel where Hawk appears. But you know the man has a code of honor after Spenser explains as best as he could to Suze & Pam/Harvey (Harry in the pilot)
Wow! I have not seen this version since the show first aired! Thank you so much for posting this, I really love this slow take on the wonderful theme and it's so great to see Carolyn McCormick in the credits (one of my all-time fave actresses). Althought I obviously prefer Susan to Rita. Anyway, thank you you made my week by posting this.
Steve Dorff who did music for Spenser for Hire also did music for 2 other abc shows for Warner Bros. Television in Growing Pains and the spin-off Just the Ten of Us
Me and my mum had a thing for Robert Urich. We used to call him "Mr Plaid" cos his furniture coverings were of the plaid style. And the Hawk, very cool character. This show ran for years in the UK. Quality show.
A long time ago during the VCR days I had a bunch of Spencer for Hire Openings. All in one place. Where that tape is now is anyone's guess, but I sure the quality had deteriorated over the years. With RU-vid I can now watch good quality versions. I was always intrigued that Spencer was continually fine tuning their opening theme song. This version is my fave. Thanks for downloading it.
Hey thanks for posting the season 2 intro. Been waiting for this to come on youtube for years. Had given up. Love Robert Urich, total class act. Was outraged when they replaced Susan but Rita did grow on me and I came to really like her. Then I had to get used to Susan all over again.
@mofotax belson was a super thin guy with a five o'clock shadow at 9 in the morning and would stand and quietly absorb a crime scene and be able to recall it in detail months later. martin quirk was tall and built like spenser and hawk with precisely cut hair, neat suits that never showed a wrinkle and a desk that was usually clean except for a photo cube of his family.
Yes by all means put spenser on. I have tried many places to get spenser back on in reruns. And a man called hawk. Both are great please bring back spenser!
Actually I started watching this show when this theme came out. I thought it was the best fit of them all. I base this as it was more in tune with the setting of Boston, as being somewhat laid back. If it were LA or NYC setting it wouldn't have fit the place perfectly. For Boston, this was the right theme at the right time!
We want spenser but only robert urich in the role any body COULD play hawk. Maybey in the new version michelle rodriquez she would make a better hawk than AVERY😑 did. ITS ALL ABOUT 👉SPENSER 👈ANY HOW 💘😘😋😋😋😏
I didnt know Rob was gone. But SPENCER FEATURED SOME VERY BIG NAME BLACK PEOPLE NOW WAY BACK THEN AVERY BROOKS KADEEM HARDISON, DELROY LINDO, KEITH DAVID, SAMUEL L JACKSON, ANGELA BASSET,AND SUZANNE DOUGLASS..THATS JUST THE ONES I SEEN. AND IT WAS A QUALITY SHOW TO WATCH....AND WITH HAWK ON THE SHOW...RATINGS WENT THROUGH THE ROOF.
Man, I hated they let go of Susan Silverman (Barbara Stock) from the first season, and when they gave him a new Mustang. That's why season one will always be my favorite. And although I luv the show, they can't compare to the books. RIP Robert B. Parker and Robert Urich.
Spenser for Hire was a great show and season 2 changed its theme to a more slower version and also, the late Juanita Bartlett Former Co-Executive Producer of The Rockford Files, Tenspeed and Brownshoe, The Greatest American Hero, Scarecrow and Mrs. King and later In the Heat of the Night took over as the Executive Producer of Season 2 and Barbara Stock was replaced by Carloyn McCormick later of Law & Order as Rita Fiori also, Spenser for Hire was up against another NBC Crime Drama, this time, on Saturday Night 10/9 Central against TV's Supercop HUNTER and everyone knows this: Spenser & Hawk were no match for Hunter & McCall and Sgt. Belson and Lt. Quirk were certainly no match for the likes of Lt. Ambrose Finn and Captain Charlie Devane
Spenser for Hire was one of my favorite shows if any one has episodes from seasons 1,2,3 can you post them on you tube. or give info on how to get them on dvd
Cuando demuestras todo lo que tienes en tu interior a los que quieres e importan no hay barrera y si un superblindaje de siguiente nivel que es lo que hace una unidad entre hombre y mujer irrompible
Wow. Never would have thought of that. never seen those, but a huge fan of RL from StandOff and Defying Gravity. Replacing RU on the show would be impossible, but I have to admit that RL would be a damn fine Spenser. Nice call.
Wasn't Carolyn CmCormakc on the Original Law and Order playing a Psychiatrist. Also, I think it wojld been grwat if Robert Urich guest Starrred on Str Trek: Deep Space Nine.
@rikerdonegal No problem. Hey if they were to do Spenser again what do you think of Ron Livingston of 'Office Space' and 'Band of Brothers'? Take a look at Urich at 1:21 and 1:23. I think he somewhat resembles Livingston.
No, Rita first appeared in Pale Kings & Princes, w/ Spenser when she was a D.A. Since then she's tried to seduce Spenser who's remained faithful to Suze.
love love love love the saxophone!!! and speaking as a jazz lover!!! It's great music but also..Im from Boston!!!! and very proud of it!yes, bostonians are tough and icy...but we are not fake people!!! Bostonians hate you to your face!! and are gruff and rough people with crazy drivers...Boston has the worst drivers in the country but!!! What else is new!!! u say that sarcastically..Boston is boston. if you can't take it..don't go up there!!!!
@@SG1Mitchell For me the casting choices were remarkably off. It could just be you can't replace Urich and Brooks but also Whalberg and Duke weren't convincing in the parts. Especially with Hawk I mean the Netflix movie didn't get him right at all. Its not Hawk without the "Spensaaa" either.
@blacktheknife I think this theme is a lot more sensual than Seasons 1 or 3. Really doesn't seem to fit the action/detective genre that much. Of course, that's not precisely Dorff's fault. It might just be the network's.
@rikerdonegal Also I think you can't REPLACE people when you do remakes. You have to find the right person who can bring something different to the role, like in the new Star Trek film. We got a Kirk who didn't think each. word. was. its. own. sentence.
I actually liked Carolyn McCormick as Rita better than Barbara Stork as Susan in the TV show. In the books Rita was described as very different from the TV show and though Rita like Spenser he never would betray Susan in the books. I guess Barbara Stork wanted more money in season 2 so they replaced her for a year.
To me robert urich is better as Dan tanner in Vegas He looks are classic and the music theme is super classic In spencer for hire he have to share the series with hawk In Vegas he take the lead alone The fightning scene the script is wonderful and the vegas life is energetic Even in 2021 the series is watchable Again the music is super classic it's my ringtone
