When i was a kid early eightys in Western Pennsylvania near Oil City/Tionesta my Dad would buy a load of lumber (hardwood) just like this Mike and strategically place it in front yard and would saw on it every Saturday for firewood my brother and I job during the week while waiting on school bus we would go down a hour early and hand split as much as we could that truly gave us some grit lol , but i clearly remember Dad would pay 300 hundred dollars a load consecutively almost every year prior to me heading off to the Army and my brother heading to Slippery rock to college. Split wood opens the fibers and burns better. Put a split piece next to a sawn piece and you can see the difference.

Hi Morgans, the red pine logs would make great tongue and groove paneling for the cabin ceilings and walls. It has some reddish grain for a warm cozy look. We used the smaller red pine for simulated rafters, ridge beam, and stair rails. We hand peeled the logs shortly after cutting them down and cut a flat side on the rafters to fit up to the ceiling.

Mike I see pole barn number two going up. With the wood you have there you could create the upright poles. Yes on footers this time, even if just the footer rounds, and have plenty of wood for making the side wall stringers, as well as the roofing stringers on top. All you need is some pre-made trusses, some metal roofing, and doors and windows. Siding and some rigid insulation. You could even skip the concrete floor pour for now; just put some 3A and 2A down. Love, love, love this channel. All things are possible. Get trusses that will allow for a gambrel end roof so you could later on build the second floor internally. You're talking about needing another building anyhow.

White Pine grows like weeds where I live. We cut 2 100' tall Whire Poones on our property. When they are too close to the house they are very expensive to cut down. I always tell people, that once a tree gets as tall as your house cut it down! It will cost you a fortune if you wait too long.

Good morning, Mike! Yes! Rapid oxidation = flame. The more surface area = better. In the world of electronics cooling (since 1974 and a tour at Intel) the key to effective thermal transfer is the aspect ratio (height & thickness) of the cooling fins/vanes/posts of the heat sink. It's also a function of the thermal transfer qualities of the heat sink material (Copper/Aluminum). In the case of pizza oven wood, the more surface area (as noted in another comment) the better the thermal transfer to the point of "rapid oxidation" depending on the moisture content/density of the fuel source. BTW...in a recent video, your music made me think that sooner or later "Captain Mike Morgan" would be stepping off a skidloader, and "Chris" (Yul Brenner) would ride up in an excavator. What, well not only the burning would be better, and the fire have air ways to help the process, the customer gets a feel of real firewood. If you use stickers, they would just go to Home Depot and by 1 x 2 trim. The way your going to process the Pizza wood is a win win for everyone.. Common Sense!

Okay so I never give up on helping someone find a EZ way to do something with out spending a ton of money and getting a job done 😂 You need a jig for the wolf ridge 👍 with a little bit of steel and a welder or talk to WR and tell them what you want to do. You could put a stack of 1x8 on it flat and push it through a custom cutting head to make it as simple as splitting regular wood and come out with a large amount of wood at the size you want. Simple as changing the head on the splitter 🎉🎉 You will not have to bye another machine ❤ . One stroke and you will have 20 sticks 🎉

I agree with the splitting of the wood for pizza ovens and small stoves. The splitting breaks the wood to make it easier to burn.

It always goes that way. Tax the super rich, skim 25% for personal projects and corruption, then talk about all the nice freebies generated with the other 75%. Use that as justification to tax the very rich. Repeat until anyone that makes a comfortable living has seen their taxes increase. It also never actually impacts the corporate donor class either. There will always be loop holes for them.

Any chance of getting 2 more of the large concrete blocks like you have edging your firewood pile, and putting them behind the log pile to keep anything in the future from rolling down the hill and giving some stability to the stack of timber waiting to be cut?

you know if you take one of those straight logs with the Ex you can use it like a squeegee to scrape up all those wood chips in long sweeps instead of the small bucket, Saves a lot of time and works better

Mike you probably already know what I am going to point out. There are 17 congress people from your state representing Pennsylvania in Washington. 9 Democrats and 8 Republicans. When I was in school 70 was the lowest score one could make in order to pass. 69 was a falling grade. The education system has been dumbed down by 10% now 60 is a minimum passing grade.and has been in place for very long time. Each elected official takes an oath to uphold the constitution. There’s an organization that grades politicians on how they vote on different bills in accordance with the constitution. 6 congress people from Pennsylvania made a passing grade. Some scored Zero. That trend holds true in most every state in our nation. That is why we are bankrupt with no hope of ever getting out of debt. God is the one we need to turn to. Our only hope!

Our local mill uses steel or aluminum light poles that have been wrecked from accidents or plowing for keeping wood off the ground. His logic is they don’t rot and he can sell them for scrap if needed.

It's nice to see a sawyer bunkering his/her inventory of logs, this is a sound business practice. With your money you make the decisions on how you deploy your capital so if you have funds putting these assets to work as inventory is generally a sound practice if you can protect the inventory until sold and by bunkering you are in my opinion more than meeting this threshold. If you augered a few logs as bollards at back of storage area to prevent logs from rolling down incline you would make placing future logs more efficient and safe while increasing the capacity of space you are now using. Spending 6+ trillion in a year for a gov't that still does not have enough money and must borrow 1 trillion every 100 days to pay it's bills will always be for me lacking in foresight. Raising 500 billion/10 years with new taxes only pays for 5 days of borrowing each year at current overspending levels. Our heirs/children will pay the rest and even if inflation gets to 2% with interest each trillion borrowed today will cost our children and their children 8-10 trillion dollars in future to repay. Mike; You clearly stated in your early video that you had considered stickers, but didn't think it was the right product that the market wanted. It had to be a split product of various length as I recall. You are correct about losing some members if you continued to split with your machines to make kindle wood.

I'll have to take your word for it Mike. I watched a Boston Concert from 1986 on you tube. It was loud but in a good way unlike all that other yelling that was going on. I agree with you on the sawn wood vs split wood. I have burnt some slab wood in the past from a sawn mill. I used it because it was free but it is good for starting a fire, but it does not burn as well as split and dried wood.

just have a welder build a retrofit blade to mount on the log splitter that has 15-20 blades to split one piece of wood into your small pizza oven pieces

If I didnt already have so much going on I would love to get back into sawing lumber for a while. A sawmill and a firewood processor are stress relievers (sometimes). My firewood processor sales and operation along with my metal fabrication shop keep me hopping. People who say "theres nothing to do" really get under my skin. The first word that comes to mind is "lazy".

I agree on the tax vs spending. The largest growth in America in roads, cities and all the infrastructure there was an %85 corporate tax and millionaires were still made. I don't know if it was a circular thing as the wealthy paid the tax but in return received government contracts?? As far as immigration. If a person shows up at a border station they are considered asylum seekers and not illegal. So are the 7 million actually illegal or are the asylum seekers counted in those numbers? Biden has a plan to shorten the process but Trump and his acolytes shut that down before it was even published.

You need to buy and stick in the ground standing up like a fence post some railroad rails. That would be a backstop for the logs.

You're overthinking the pizza wood. When people are building fires, they tend to use the sticks of similar size so the fire does not just topple over. If you want "variation" in size, just cut 3/4 by 1 and be done with it.
