It was assumed that they defended but failed. I first saw this type of situation when US tv series "seal team" had my country Bangladesh and even your country in 2 cases where one case was about replicating 26/11 attack.. Non of these instances showed our respective militaries actively involving rather a 6 man team of US Navy seals in mission.... However it was told that local forces were in action.
The enemies in this mission are actually Spetsnaz who are loyal to Makarov. So these terrorists-aligned special forces have no regard for attacking any country.
