A wonderful example from the Madan ore field consisting of 2 well formed Sphalerite crystals with delightful surface details on each side of the specimen which are partly covered by a crust which is most possibly Dolomite and shiny silvery Galena between them. Minor Pyrite on the base of the specimen.
Madan, in the Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria, just north of the frontier with Greece, is an ancient ore-miners’ settlement. The history of mining in the Madan region extends back at least as far as the Thracians in the fifth century B.C. where the extraction of lead ore began.
Thank you for watching.
