SPICCATO 7 TIPS {Special Edition} Episode 4
1. I practice the passage slowly.
2. I use different rhythms to synchronize my fingers; in a legato style.
3. Then, I switch to detached rhythms.
4. Afterward, I slightly accelerate the passage with deep detachment in the strings.
5. I make sure that my wrist is flexible enough.
6. I play the passage with an accent on the notes played up bow to avoid disproportionate notes on the down bow.
7. I search for the right position of my bow to achieve a good spiccato.
For me, spiccato doesn’t come from intentionally lifting the bow but rather from starting with a well-controlled detached stroke in the strings and then slightly detaching it with speed.
