I watched a documentary on skin bleaching in Jamaica yesterday and I never would’ve thought them out of all people would downgrade having a dark complexion😭that was shocking

This is exactly how we are in Jamaica. I used to do and say the same things as a darkskinned girl to other darkskins and I used to have people say "Look how yaa get black, buy a Nadinola or whatever" or "Yuh black and ugly"
I understand where spice is coming from I have been told I was to fat and I was 2 black to be pretty up till this day I’m told I’m 2 fat and I’m still 2 black and my hair still can’t be pretty enough I really don’t understand my Jamaican people lol poor us I have been to other countries Nd i was told I’m beautiful and I also met white man and woman who loved my complexion and even wanted to take pictures with me and I wasn’t even that unique in my mind lol
You are blessed with intelligence and a purpose with your music. Many black people need to hear this and it’s sad that many women or men in music today don’t use their platform or talents to expose the underlying racism/colorism that’s going in today,even if their non-black viewers don’t want to listen.

jamaica has an underlining issue when it comes on to colorism the lighter the skin the higher the social mobility, these taboos are stemmed from pre-independence and slavery days so sad we have not progressed as a nation.
