Fun list. During Kingdom of the Spiders, I kept waiting for a spider to emerge from Shatner's toupee. I think the spider movie that would cause the most "what did I just watch?" trauma is Spider Baby (1967).
OK, you have me totally cracking up with this comment 😂😂 Also, how wild was that ending?? More movies need to take that route! Uh oh, looks like Spider Baby is on Amazon video. I will be watching but uhh.. I see a woman with a spider in her mouth?! 🫣
Arachnophobia came out when I was a kid and I was super terrified of spiders. I remember the shower scene, and was scared to close my eyes in the shower for ages.
I remember loving Arachnophobia when it came out. I need to rewatch for sure. The only book I think I’ve read is Clowns Vs Spiders which was a lot of fun. 🕷️
Clowns versus spiders was such a fun and light spider read! I still can’t get over that scene with the grandparents 😢 I think I’m going to be reading shockwave by Brian Berry this month. It’s available on Kindle unlimited. I think it’s supposed to be a creature feature. 👻
Spiders have always been my biggest fear, but like I am trying to train myself to not be so scared. 😂 it’s not easy. Arachnophobia was always so scary to me.
That’s so funny - I also am trying to work through my spider issues too 😂 Looks like there’s a lot of us who were forever changed by that movie 😂 Thanks so much for watching!! 🕸️🕷️
Oh man I forgot about eight legged freaks! 😂😂 Arachnophobia freaked me out! 😱 An old school movie I liked but that gave me the spider creeps was Runaway with Tom Selleck with the robot spiders. The clickity sounds of them crawling! 😮🕷
Talk about old-school April with an eight legged freaks throwback 😂 I’m so glad I re-watched it so I could really embrace and notice what it was doing as a spoof on spider b-movies. Robot spiders?! I gotta see that one to believe it 😂
I watched Arachnophobia ONCE as a kid and never again! It freaked me out way too much. Interesting how most (all?) of these movies revolve around scientists haha Super excited for the new spider movies!
Those darn scientists! 😜 I was really surprised to find myself analyzing themes of women in stem when I started my deep dive into the spider monster subgenre. But the representation is HORRIBLE!
I really like the little creatures, but if they are bigger in size, this terrifies me a lot.🕷🕷 I love the movie Enemy from 2013. The spider at the end of the film is real; it was filmed in a little doll house room to appear bigger than human size. 🕷I’m excited for Sting, hopefully I can catch in cinema. 🎥🍿🎥
I love tarantulas! 🕷️ I haven’t watched Arachnophobia in years. I love the movie ending for The Mist. I can’t remember reading any spider books, but now I want to. Creepy video, Lauren! 🕷️
I aim to creep!! 👻🤣 I’m currently reading a book that’s a spider b- movie in book format right now, but it has not gotten to introducing the creature yet so hopefully it’s a good one!
Ooohhh spiders!!! 🤩🕷️🕸️ How fun!! I haven't seen those 50s movies but they look so fun!! I love Arcioaphobia and eight legged freaks! Ah, yes! The ending the mist movie is incredible! Not a spider movie but have you seen Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark? Theres an awesome spider scene! 🕷️🕸️🕷️🕸️🕷️ Great video! 🖤
OK, yes I have seen scary stories to tell in the dark and it’s one of my favorites that I watch for the first time last fall! Apparently they’re working on a sequel, but it feels like it’s taking forever. That spider scene was INTENSE!!!!
This made me so happy! I love spiders and I love how something so not spooky can be so scary in a movie. 🕷️ great coverage of spiders throughout movie history!
This list made me realize how many spider horror movies I haven’t seen!😂 The Mist was so good and I would say pretty solid overall. The Red Spot story in Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (both in the movie and in the book) I always found troubling.😳
OK, that bathroom scene in scary stories to tell in the dark 👀 ummm I don’t think I’ve ever recovered from that 😂😂 but that’s actually one of my favorite Halloween-themed videos that I’ve seen in the last few years! I cannot wait for them to come out with the sequel that they keep saying is in production, but I haven’t heard anything about its release information. 😡
Oh I should do some spider watching! I don’t mind them too much, though I have been tasked with being our spider handler so I’ve definitely had to get more used to the
I watched Arachnophobia when I was sixteen. I need to do a rewatch. The ending of The Mist movie is so bleak. I'm looking forward to watching Infested.
All this 🕷🕷 goodness! Spider horror is a bit of a blind spot for me so I'm stoked to check out some of these movies. My favorite spider horror movie is The Giant Spider Invasion (1975) which is objectively awful but it has Barbara Hale in it doing an epic roll down a hill so it has that going for it. Not sure if these are on your radar but two books you might be interested in are I Was a Cold War Monster and Brute Force: Animal Horror Movies. So glad you mentioned The Mist! Frank Darabont initially took some heat for the ending but it's so brutally perfect. I also loved his work on The Walking Dead and will forever wonder how the show could have been if he stayed at the help. You did a great job with this video and I loved some of the connections you made!
Liz!! These book recommendations are fantastic. And I will definitely check out the giant spider invasion when I’m in the mood for a fantastically silly b-movie. 😂 I swear, I create videos just to get your thoughts on things! 😅 I’m looking up these book titles and I’m completely obsessed with them. Brute Force has a whole chapter dedicated to insect horror, marine horror, and so much more 🤩🤩 and just a huge thank you for being my nerdy horror soul sister because I know people aren’t always on RU-vid for intellectualizing horror, but you’re always game for it. I always appreciate how you share your knowledge and thoughts with me!!
@@happyhauntslibrary I always look so forward to your videos! After this summer, we should chat. I’m hoping to work on a project about grief and it would be so fun to collaborate! 👻
Im so here for creating content around exposure theory on our childhood fears. 🤣 I need to do this for bats, they scare the hell out of me. I love the historical context you give to these movies 🥰
Exposure therapy! 😂 you’re bringing me back to psych 101 class! Oo yes, that’s are freaky little things. You definitely would not have enjoyed the museum I went to when I was in Salem. It was small, but it was all about bats and they actually had about two or three live ones in a glass case that you can look at. 😯
I'm not sure about movies on Spiders besides the ones you listed. Maybe the Spiders from the Hobbit movie/book. 😄 Thanks for mentioning Shatner! Love him and will try to watch that movie now. But from what you've described he always plays characters like that. The embodiment of captain Kirk. Lol On books with spiders, one of my favorite books is Cackle by Rachel Harrison. That one has a lot of spiders in the background 🕷 but they're not scary, and one of them is actually super cute. lol I love spiders, but growing up on ubran myths of swallowing spiders in your sleep and the one story in Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, The Red Spot (which the film adaptation captured pretty good 🕷), used to creep me out.
The spider from Cackle is SO CUTE!!! Legit the only time I have ever felt compelled to have a lil spider buddy by my side 😂 Leave it up to RH to make the impossible possible for me 🕷️😂 and oh my gosh PLEASE watch a kingdom of spiders. Although his character is sooo annoying, the horror elements and story are top tier!
This made me realize I really have not explored spider specific horror. The closest I've been is Spiderman 😂😂 now I need to expand my portfolio with some of the movies you shared. I will try to find arachnophobia if it's streaming somewhere and start there. Love your commentary and historical touch always ❤
Yes, I’ve seen cobweb!! I talked about it in my Halloween video this October. I couldn’t agree with you more about your thoughts on the movie. I absolutely loved the atmosphere and all of the fall vibes! Gosh and I are making me miss autumn extra extra 😂🍁🍂
Tarantulaaaaaa yes! Honestly, I kind of prefer 'Earth vs. The Giant Spider' from the same time period but both are fun. THEM! Is definitely the high bar hahaha. OH.....OH YEAH...there are like...maybe 10 good female characters in the entirety of 1950s monster movies. YOU WATCHED KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! YESSSSS I looove that movie because William Shatner is like an awful lead LOL. It is so wild. The ending is nuts. (I should clarify I enjoy it for its camp value). Eight LEgged Freaks is SO camp...I watched it like 50 times in my Teens hahahaha. Yeah it is one of those early 2000s movies that try to commentate on gender roles whilst also completely buying into them. UH OH...a french spider movie...that sounds like it will be TERRIFYING LOL. This was a great video.
Oo definitely adding Earth v Giant Spider to my watch list! I did not realize watching spider movies would mean having to see such awful female representation but they’re made my men and they revolve around science so I guess I could have seen that one coming! Okay so maybe Eight Legged Freaks really found its audience in 2000s teens? 😂
You might end our friendship after this comment (clickbait) I love spiders I think they are so fascinating. I am amazed by the webs they can make and how smart they are. 🕷🕸 You are so brave for trying to get over your spider fear and watching all these movies. I could never with roaches fr. I can't believe I have never seen Arachnophobia!! I bet it still slaps to this day 👏👏👏 ooo I need to watch The Mist too! Spiders?? I would not think that they would be involved with this concept. Interested to see how they connect 👀 eww infested looks so scary actually 11:15 REAL 👏👏👏 I feel like I may have told you this before but in Hogwarts Legacy there is quite a bit of spider content. One spider quest made me scream because of a jump scare 💀 It was great
Clickbait comment 😂😂😂 of course you had me reading!! Please watch ARACHNAPHOBIA! It’s a fantastic movie and fun for the whole family!! 🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️ okay tell me why you’re talking about hogwarts legacy when my Fiance and I were LITERALLY (*brooklin voice*) talking about it last night as we were dreaming up our PS5 gaming life before we pull the trigger on getting one!!!???? I need it even more now!
