Spider Lifts Are My New Favorite Thing!

Our small veteran owned tree service was hired to remove multiple trees at a customers house. Due to the heat we decide to demo a spider lift and love every minute of it! We set up and employ different techniques & just free fall large limbs along the way. If you are just starting a tree service, are an experienced contract climber or just generally interested in the industry I hope you find the dismantling of these monster trees entertaining!

Lot of lifts on the market , hundred thousand is lite, 72 ' 92 ' 130,000 to 170.000 , GOOD climbers that work everyday and are quick, that are not junked out are HARD to find, i use a catch climber , from brazil , 500.00 a day when i can get him. When 9n my job , its work only, and i run the saw and skid steer and haul , its my life and i love it, needless to say very few have my work ethic, i do mist of my jobs by my self , no drama just work .

Spider lifts are nice but i am still leary of them. I see some of them at auction from time to time bent up. Assuming a novice rented one, or was starting out and had a limb or something go wrong. I don't think they have a whole lot of safety factor in them. I use a power company style bucket truck. Booms are 46k insulated fiberglass and rated with a 600lb 2 man bucket and a 1500 lb jib mounted also, plus safety factor. And their mounted to a 25000 lb truck so they are pretty hard to turn over. Boom is flexy but you know there is a lot of strength there and they have been proven for decades. Some of the new spider lifts come from who knows and im just not so sure of them long term, or how much safety factor is in them.

Bought a bucket truck a couple years ago wouldn't go back lifts are the way to go 100 money makers plus costumers see you as legit when you show up with a lift. Dont get me wrong i love Climbing and its still a needed skill from time to time but if you can get a lift to it then use it.

You can make money with them. We did a 75 foot sprawling oak with 15 or more major limbs partially over a house with limited drop zone. We had a 60ft bucket and still got it done in 8hrs. It was a learning tree for us at a straight hourly rate, but other companies quoted it at $3800 just to put it on the ground with no cleanup. A 100ft lift would have speed things up some for us a good bit, as we had 3 setups with our truck but we got it done., If you can land these big jobs you can justify the rental rates, and its nice cause you don't have to worry about maintenance etc and you can get them into places trucks can't go.
