Spider-Man/Deadpool The Comic To Ship Or Not To Ship?

The team up comic made me want to curl into a ball

Definitely made me ship it more, mostly because I've almost only seen people shipping their movie versions, which didn't seem right to me, but I really think that they (especially in this comic) could make a great couple in a healthy relationship.

For me, I think the reason why Spideypool works so well and has so much appeal is because of how many parallels they have, and how they’re such a prime example of nature vs. nurture. Peter, before Uncle Ben’s death, was incredibly similar to how Wade is now: Selfish, exploiting his abilities for fame and fortune, etc. Peter even mentions this directly to Wade in the Hit Monkey arc, showing that Peter is aware of some of their similarities and is able to sympathize, however bluntly he may express it. Peter learned to be better by both the positive influence of Aunt May and his various personal losses when coming to terms with understanding what responsibility means. Wade has had a rough life and has gone through horrible situations that he had little control over, but at his core he is a good man who wants to do good. Because of the shitty circumstances he’s experienced, he’s learned to be more selfish, though underneath it all he’s still the same self-sacrificing man that he’s always been (and what Spidey learned to be, despite his initial nature being quite the opposite). Peter was a selfish man who learned to be good and responsible, and Wade is a good man who learned the hard way to look out for himself. Ultimately, I just think that Peter and Wade have a lot to learn from one another that can promote legitimate positive growth in them both. Peter often falls into a black and white way of thinking, which Wade can (and has) helped him see past in order to realize the nuance behind some situations and morals. Wade can learn from Peter to take responsibility more often, and to finally allow himself to be the man and hero he’s always wanted to be. Spideypool certainly doesn’t have to be everyone’s cup of tea, but If we were comparing it to something like Cablepool, I would choose Spideypool every time. It’s certainly more healthy, even despite their own roadblocks, primarily because Peter Parker is not a manipulative person like Cable can be. Peter can be pushy and prideful, but at the end of the day he’s not one to play god or decide what is best for others. Cable & Deadpool really shows the off-balance and manipulative nature of Cablepool, as Cable goes to some nasty lengths to control Wade (Guilting him, ruining opportunities for him, withholding information, etc). While Cable may think he knows what’s best for Wade and think what he’s doing is justified, it goes against Wade’s will, forcing him to make decisions he wouldn’t have on his own accord. Their whole relationship is rooted in control, which Wade has experienced too much of already in his life. Wade already has self-worth issues, so he deserves better than to be belittled and humiliated by someone he should be able to trust. Even if Wade wants to change, he shouldn’t be forced/manipulated into it, because ultimately only Wade can determine what kind of change he wants for himself and what his own morals are. Honestly, I think it’s fitting that Cablepool’s own shared series is also a sort of beginning to Spideypool (in terms of them meeting for the first time in this series, as well as them briefly teaming up in the last issue). As Wade’s relationship with Cable ends, his relationship with Spidey begins. In Spider-Man/Deadpool, Deadpool directly asks Spidey to help him change for the better, as he sees Peter as an ideal hero who he aspires to be like. Wade is the one asking for help, Peter doesn’t trick him into it or initiate any sort of attempts at forcing Wade to change. All Peter does is spend some time getting to know him and offering his own blunt opinions, which Wade can use as he pleases. Wade came to his own conclusion that he wanted to be better and to be like Spidey. In turn, Spidey warms up to Wade quite quickly when he realizes that he’s being genuine, finally letting himself open up enough to learn more about Wade as a person. After this, Peter has a really good time with Wade, and gets upset when he questions whether Wade truly wanted to be friends with him or not. It shows that Peter is open to letting Wade in and having a closer relationship with him, just that his only requirement is that Wade needs to not be killing people in order for them to be friends. In the first SM/DP run, Wade and Peter both learn to be a bit more like the other, and while Peter goes about it a bit more dramatically, I think it shows the respect that they’ve found for each other. I’d say that they’re generally quite honest with one another about how they’re feeling and work well as friends because they both desire a positive relationship with one another and are willing to try and make it work. The only reason Peter and Wade aren’t always on the best terms is solely for their moral differences, so if Wade wants to be closer to Peter, he’ll have to make changes in his actions on his own terms, as Peter will never force him into changing. Peter wants things to work with Wade, but in the end the ball’s in Wade’s court, giving him a sense of power over his own actions that he’s not always offered. Wade’s always admired Spidey, but Spidey has finally learned that he admires Wade in a lot of ways, too. Peter doesn’t want to give up on Wade, even when he stumbles back into a darker place, and I think the SM/DP series has shown how Peter has developed a real soft spot for Wade in general. They aren’t always perfect, but despite it all, they have great potential and motivation to make things work. Of course, they’re comic book characters, so all of this is likely not going to be something that is fully realized, but the thought of it is something that I love a lot. (Also, holy shit this got long! I apologize, hopefully this reads semi-coherently)

I will always love Spideypool Yes it's true spidey can be a little mean to Wade but Wade did kill Peter (even though it was Spidey) still even after Spidey asked him not to I can see why Spidey can be a bit unsettling about wade, even wade understands Wade tries to change sometimes he fails but that's fine nobody habits go away so easily 😅😅 But yes both do have each other backs when things go downhill for them both (if i made u confused my bad)

I have a lot of love for Spideypool, which is hilarious to me since I haven’t actually read any of the comics (growing up, I didn’t live somewhere I had access to them, and now that I’m older, the habit of reading comics never formed, so I’m not really interested despite loving Marvel/DC/Ect. in all their other, more accessible forms) but there was so much fan culture surround Sipdeypool online that that’s how I found them, they were presented to me as a ship, versus being presented with content that made me ship of my own accord. But yeah! I really love Spideypool because I feel it’s a really great outlet for creators to build of the canon we do get, but also form entire scenarios on their own. So I’ll always love Spideypool regardless of what canon gives us (though canon to build off is always great. Gotta love some good solid ship scaffolding)

What I'm really upset by is that there does not seem to be much interest in what is actually going on in canon There aren't many fics or discussion ( that I've found) about the comic Which is disappoinng I was looking for an identity reveal fic after wade kills Peter, with lots of angst on the side People seem to ship it more in fanon

I was a ship before, but DAMN! This series make me invest so much more in this ship Heardmates, like... perfect! Show me more how they can be together. They make each other better, see Peter slow trust Wade more ans forgive him all he did, 'cause see him as a good man with a good heart and good intentions and Wade finally recognize that he can make hes daughter proud, make himself proud and spidey is... everything that he want, what make he marriage fail, but he make a choice, he choice helping Peter and not hes marriage anyway. So see those two can have a good relationship besides all and understand soo much each other better than anyone is GOLD!

1. Yes please any ship able moments are welcome. 2. Yes I read the Kelly when it was first coming out and was unaware of the other run till now. I really liked Kelly's run and the whole dynamic with Wade and Spidey in my opinion worked. And it was because of this comic (and my friend) that I found out about SpideyPool and started shipping it. It is still one of my favorite ships even though I've stopped reading Marvel comics recently. 3. I would say the comic made me ship it more as it was the ground work for me finding out about the ship. And for that it has a special place in my heart.

I was one of those people who came out of the series pretty early because the portrayal of their relationship here made me a little bit uncomfortable. Which was disappointing because I went into it hoping to ship them (I wish I shipped more popular things sometimes. But here I am with my HawkPool and SpideyTorch). I would love to see a shippable moments video between them, though! Maybe that'll finally turn me into a SpideyPool shipper.

I'm a huge Spideypool fan but couldn't make it through the comics. Loved the art and it definitely did have its funny, bromance, shippable moments but I cannot handle people who are supposed to be his friends being mean to Wade at all. Snarky, sure. Annoyed w him, fine. Dismissive, I even expect it since Wade is a LOT all the time. But straight out hateful and mean is a no-no and instantly gets me to close the book on it. Spidey definitely crosses that line for me and I found myself disliking him immensely because of it (I go full mama-bear when it comes to wade, can't help it). I still do ship them more since the comics since I tend to ship more off of artwork than actual plot/story and the artwork was definitely . .suggestive and the resultant fanart was everything I could have wished for.

Oh my god I am so so down for a Cablepool moments video 1. I did read a fair chunk of it but not all of it, I know I read through the whole of Kelly's run but then I got overloaded with too many other series coming out at the time and stopped at #26-#30ish or so? 2. From a general reader perspective I thought it was a great and fun series and it was great to see perhaps my favorite Deadpool writer back writing the character! But from a shipping perspective it did mildly annoy me that to some extent or another things were sorta retconned to make Spidey fill the parts in Wade's life that Cable and other characters used to make up, what I mean is, Deadpool used to think Spiderman was kind of an annoying dork back in Kelly's '97 run and C&DP and other early interactions if I recall correctly, yet suddenly he's the guy's biggest hero? Captain America used to be Wade's hero iirc. Siryn and then later Cable were the people who inspired Wade to become more more moral and try to become a better person. Their relationship in this series just seemed like a less organic rehash of a lot of themes Cable and Deadpool's had during C&DP and at this point in Wade's development as a character it seems unnecessary to make him redo this same sort of arc. 3. Never shipped Spideypool (but I do _love_ Peter B x Wade) and this comic run just seemed too fanservice-y to me (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, I just thought it seemed forced) and like it required ignoring Cable's significance to Wade's development and replacing him with Spidey, who generally dislikes Wade a lot more than Cable does, accepts him less (at least initially) and has a lot less intrinsic reasons to relate to him, to work. 4. No it did not convert me as a shipper...I'm too loyal to both Cablepool and Spideytorch, but I did start appreciating them more as a brotp, I'm glad this series gave them a lot more of a solid friendship though because DP deserves more hero buddies and I do like Spidey being nicer to Wade because how snarky/insulting he could be at times in the past towards Wade was a bit too much for me knowing how generally poor Wade's self esteem and self image are. No disrespect to Spideypool shippers BTW because it's totally fine to like that sort of dynamic but it's just not for me personally.

Howdy, by golly!!! Alright, this MIGHT be my 1st comment on any of your videos (but I'm NOT gonna "swear" to THAT, for reasons I'll make apparent, in a bit). Alright, the original "need" for this comment was cuz I never really understood what the term "shipper" referred to, in any way that made sense to my feeble mind. So I was gonna ask ya "Hey, what does 'shipper' refer to, exactly?", but I instead opted to "Google search" the term, & came to a logical theory "end", of sorts. So pretty much the initial "definition" of "shipper" that I came across, online, said "shipper" refers to fan-fic relationSHIPS, "ships" being the origin of the term "shipper". Your talk & all the "ship" references, in this vid, seem to validate, my hypothesis. Bcuz it seems, to me, ya use the word/term "ship", in place of the longer term "relationship". Cuz I've been a subscriber of yours, for quite some time now, a year or so at least, without spending TOO MUCH thought, on this particular subject, but if I'm totally wrong, please explain YOUR implied use of the term(s) "ship/shipper/shipping". Sorry if these aren't the answers you're looking for, but still, several things (in a list, because I know how fond of them you are ;)): 1) As more of, if not almost exclusively a DC person, lemme just tell you you how glad I always am for those videos! I may not care as much for the Marvelverse save for a few characters or areas, but it's all over the map right now, and I often tend to be more interested in fandoms I'm not in than I am in vids on my fandoms. Looking at what others gush about/ship will never not be fascinating, so thanks, you're doing good out there! 2) Speaking of something I DO know about, the way you're talking about Spideypool pre SpiderMan/Deadpool comic (with their relationship being less or more antagonistic depending on writers, only to culminate with the first run of the comic being handled by a writer who was aware of the ship) really reminded me of the evolution of the Symbrock ship, and how the 90's Lethal Protector series alone changed things for both Venom-as-a-character and the Brock/Symbiote relationship. That's the interesting things with comics, and comic-based ships: there are times where one run is enough to change the way a character is perceived. It always floors me. :D So I'm with you in advising shippers to keep an eye on the SpiderMan/Deadpool comic; it may do just that!

Going only by the movies, I think I'd ship Deadpool with Eddie Brock/Venom. Unless Venom and Wade are already too identical in personality.
