You should do an analysis of some cues from Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey. Bruce Broughton's score is beautiful and really uses motif very well!
I feel the same about this as a lot of Giacchino themes, it's 60-70% great but doesn't have quite enough shape/drama. The first motif here starts well then just goes back home too easily. One of the best things he wrote was the tunes for the Medal of Honors video games back in the day, and he has only occasionally lived up to that promise (eg. Ratatouille).
Well I also consider some of Giacchino's works from the last years sort of simple and lame, but honestly not Far from Home, especially this suite, it's a really interesting, dramatic and appropriate music, themes are memorable and interesting, as well as orchestral choices. Love Theme is probably sort of lame, but at least it's finally not usual Giacchino's use of C/Fm progression (Super 8, Tomorrowland, Jurassic World, Homecoming etc...), so for me it's interesting, and by the way pretty nice and beautiful. Mysterio's Theme is really cool and memorable, I want even say one of the best from Giacchino's entries in the last years. And Spidey's theme for me personaly never was lame at all, it's just a clear and familiar heroic identity, but it's still memorable and humable, but I know people call it lame, but well, whatever... I mean there are occasions about Giacchino, where I would agree, but clearly not this one.
Really nice work, but sadly it is one of Giacchino's worst score. This is a great example of how this multi billion dollar Marvel universe machine destroys any creativity. Even the orchestration is lame in this score. Even though they are fantastic musicians, I think they just don't put the effort into these for "4 chord" scores anymore.
Honestly I feel like this is very wrong, I think this Spider Man’s score captures the essence of the character very well, being a teenager and not as mature as any of the other heroes his theme is more withdrawn and subdued while still being heroic
I didn't say it it was not capturing the picture and its mood. All I said that it is the most boring score I've heard from Giacchino and I heard every score he wrote, because I really like his compositions. But one has to admit, this a simple 4 chord "pop score" even beginner composers could imitate in a day or two.@@saltysnowflake5832
I honestly disagree. Not only do I find his scores for films like Zootopia and Super 8 significantly less memorable, but this is one of the few MCU scores that has a genuine earworm of a main theme to me.
Yeah, on one hand, I love that we have Spider-Man films that has John Williams-esque end credits suites, but the execution just doesn't inspire. It also doesn't help that James Horner and Danny Elfman's Spider-Man material is some of the best superhero music ever composed so Giacchino's just sounds dull by comparison. I definitely agree that the orchestration and little harmonic depth (for the main theme at least) is really what leaves it sounding so underwhelming.
@@Superultramegaa19 It is admittedly hard to compare to either of their works. When put in the context of the MCU, however, it's at least pretty solid. Most MCU scores, even the ones by some truly great composers, are usually quite forgettable. At least this one is hummable in ways that even Danny Elfman, Patrick Doyle, and Henry Jackman couldn't quite pull off in this series.
