Some heroes like Thor & Iron-man are best suited for fighting world ending threats, some heroes like DareDevil & Luke Cage are best for fighting smaller crimes and standing up for the little guys. Spider-man is that rare hero who can go back & forth between both.
No, it doesn't. it shows how he and the comic writers are ARROGANT because he does not realize that most 'crim'nals' are driven to what we call criminality by not being able to find jobs that will pay them enough to survive and thrive. Almost all 'crim'nals' have tried the workaday life and worked DAMNED hard and what happens? WAGE SLAVERY!
I love that. Sure, its in Peter's goofy nature to *maybe* troll a guy. But he really isn't.And here, he just let Frankie know that no matter how small the crime, nor matter how petty, the effects can ripple into something bigger. And then everybody gets burned.
This is the reason why absolutely adore both Peter Parker's spider-man and Barry Allen's flash Well Wally West too This guys aren't just your average local super heroes, they are your friendly neighbours, willing not to just save people and beat up criminals, but also talk to them, understand them
Yeah I was literally thinking how Peter is the wally west of marvel. Like if this man wasn't getting constantly fucked over and wasn't in danger so often I would imagine he would do the things wally does in his own comics.
I mean, theres that one comic about how villains will do almost anything to avoid dealing with the flash, as he literally has gone to the end of the universe to retrieve a lollipop for a young kid
Those bad guys that Frankie hired were the enforcers, who were from the original comics. It's come a long way since Spiderman has had to take them seriously.
2:27 enforcers usually make a nice old school comic. I remember gwen Stacy giant size when she was threatened subtly with ox getting her a drink from a vending machine lol it is like justice league batman giving donuts 😂
@alecLogan This is true. However, they do live in a world where murderers and world enders end up back on the streets, so Spidey webbing him up and give him "the talk" is a nice change of pace
I think the most crazy thing about this comic is the fact that the world was basically ending and this guy actually thought it was good time rob something and it wasn’t for survival
Flash and Spiderman have some things in common. They've both gone out of their way to help their criminals and villains get better if they can. Even if it's just an ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on. Still remember the Sandman's death and Spidey being by his side the whole time.
One time Spider-Man helped Sandman when he was dying, police wanted him locked but Spider-Man took him and took him to his favorite place for one last time
@@maybeimrambling9401 Superman is the boyscout. He always has been outside a few dark moments. He's also capable of shrugging off nearly anything, so being willing to sit down and talk to someone who can't hurt him is different to me.
This is what's called being a small-steps hero. You do a good thing now, no matter how small. The bigger stuff is next on your to-do list. This is how the great superheroes stay grounded. It's why Superman doesn't mind saving a treed kitten -- or talking a depressed girl down from committing suicide even when he's about to fight the biggest battle of his life. And it's why Spidey "keeps picking" on our pal Frankie -- and will go on "picking" on him until Frankie finally wises up. Of course, it helps when you've got friends. It detracts nothing from Spidey's big heart to point out that he can leave the city-stomping giants to guys like Thor.
I was thinking the exact same thing. Both Superman and Spider-Man are the beacons of hope in their respective universe. For Supes, he believes in the good of humanity because it's that same good that has allowed to be raised and loved by the Kents, regardless of where he came from. Kal can believe in it thanks to his parents. That's why when he doubts himself, he immediately goes to them and somehow someway, their wisdom and love reinvigorates him. Before his powers, comic Peter was bullied and wanted to make Flash Thompson and others like him pay. He was going to become more villainous if not for the lesson he learned that night as Spidey. Responsibility doesn't come easy to any teenager, especially Peter. That's exactly why he can make choices that some Avengers can't and during Civil War, redefined what a hero is while holding Captain America's shield.
@@elayemedidris7282 I don't think Spiderman's normal state is a beacon of hope in the marvel universe. He's more like the soul/friend of the marvel universe. He does often become a beacon of hope when the chips are down but for a more nuanced reason than Superman whose seen as a beacon of hope due to being a strong steadfast cornerstone holding everything up. Spiderman is seen as a beacon of hope because even when he's down, even when things look bleak, even when the world seems to be doomed, so long as Spiderman is alive he tends to get back up again and follows his principles no matter what's thrown at him.
Frankie should be honored. He now knows that even if the world may be going to hell in a handbasket, SPider-man can and *will* skip all of that just to bust him.
The roles have reversed,Uncle Ben gave Peter a great speech about responsibility, now Peter/Spiderman gives all crooks his advice about responsibility.Thats why Spiderman is the Greatest Hero in the universe.
Spider-Man's conversation last conversation with Frankie here makes me think of all the times I see fans of a certain content creators defending their content creator when they get held accountable for questionable actions by saying "but there's so many other content creators, such as x, y, and z that do this and more people watch them. Why fixate on this particular creator?" Spidey is absolutely right, it doesn't matter how petty or small scale a crime is, a crime is still a crime. People aren't born evil, people become increasingly corrupt as they keep getting away with their heartless deeds.
What's SO great about this, is that Peter has Sooo much more important obligations and responsibilities, but he goes out of his way to check on this one person. Like, would you REALLY stop being a criminal if the One thing that makes you "Somebody" is all you have?
I think spider-man as a character was the first one to give out the line "i have no enemies" because at the end of the day he doesn't see the criminals as "evil" but just people.
Spidey is literally the Flash if the marvel universe. He is the only one who has gone through so much but still won't lean towards taking his anger out on the criminals. Spidey could very eaisly kill all his villans and save himself alot of pain but he chooses not to because its the right thing to do. The best Super-hero in my opinoin
Spin off idea Old Frankie isnsitting there watching his ironically superpowered grandkid and thinking "I need Spiderman to teach them responsibility." and we get a new anti-hero because responsibility is one thing, morality is relative. also they go around calling Parker "Uncle Spider".
My favorite example of Spidey considering quitting is Amazing Spider-Man #3. I think he considered quitting there? i haven't read that story in months, but I remember him being pretty miserable after losing to Doc Ock, the funny thing is that "Learning To Crawl" storyline that takes place during issues 1-2, so if you read them in chronological order Peter loses for the first time, to Clash, and considers quitting, and then after deciding not to give up, gets beaten for the first time again by Doc Ock and falls back into depression. It's also funny to read Amazing Fantasy issues 16, 17, and 18 when they take place, because then you have a three part story about Peter coming to grips with Uncle Ben's death and no longer blaming himself for everything, and then in the very first panel of the next story in issue 1 of Spider-Man he's angerily tossing his costume and yelling "Uncle Ben's dead and it's my fault!" I know it doesn't really have much to do with the story you covered, but hearing you talk about the times he's almost quit reminded me and i just had to mention them for anyone who didn't know.
I love it when comics get really deep and not so sad all the time for Spider-Man, it highlights his personality even better than just making him suffer. I mean we’ve seen him suffer so much already so seeing this for some reasons just is a way to highlight that notion of "the only thing standing between this city and oblivion is me" showing how his whole existence being so important in the way that everything could go wrong and would go wrong even for the littlest of things and that stopping all that can and needs to be stopped for the greater good should absolutely and without a doubt be done. Compared to all the paling superheroes and villains in the marvel universe ranging from genius ducks or fucking wizards and aliens except the point is not to show a very big powerful hero but just a guy standing for things to when compared to alien invasions look trivial but are in fact very important in reality. Probably the reason why Spider-Man is my favorite hero. He manages to stand up and make things right, he does not choose one of two very bad things, except he ignores the choice he has and prefers doing everything he possibly can to make both choices righteous again. Even if that implies he needs to make more efforts than he could possibly make. He is godlike at this point. His sheer will to fight everything and everyone at once is jaw breaking to look at in the cinemas or read in the comics or play as in the games. Truly this is one of those heroes who isn’t unstoppable because he is overpowered but only because he has the ever loving will to use every possible way to do the right thing as minimal as the actual outcome could get. Of course pardon my mistakes of writing, I’m a little young and language ain’t my resort. I love Spider-Man and you should too.
That's also some quite genious idea for a criminal, dude knows at this point that whenever some alien or extra-dimensional or whatever crisis happens, every Superhero is just gonna save the day and things go back to normal but that also means they aren't gonna focus on some smaller crime going on, and that's why Spider-Man is such a great foil to him, because to him, no crime is too small, other heroes can handle the mega aliens while he stops the crime, which is also more than likely not gonna take him more than five minutes tops before he can go back and help them with that
Assuming it's the original formula, the webbing dissolves in about an hour. And Spidey likely hung Frankie an easy jump down to the ground. So if no cop shows up to bust him, Frankie can go home in an hour or so and think over his life. Maybe.
The trippy thing here is that it basically recognizes the uneven application and bizarre psychosis of the Sliding Timescale in Marvel Comics (possible actually caused by Franklin Richards). It recognizes that Spider-Man has been stopping this burglar for literally decades, and we see the burglar age, but Spider-Man doesn't, or at least doesn't at anything close to the same rate. And *neither one of them seems to notice* the difference. Basically, every character regularly featured in comics ages according to the Sliding Timescale, and everyone else ages in real time. And except for very rare characters like the Blonde Phantom, no one ever notices that it's happening. Some characters have an excuse: Doctor Strange mystically purged himself of all fear of Death and now no longer ages and cannot die from internal causes (disease, cancer, etc) but only from external forces; Thor, Hercules, etc are immortal gods; Steve Rogers has the Super-Soldier Serum, and Black Widow, Winter Soldier, and Nick Fury have/had variations on it. But MJ Watson? Aunt May? J. Jonah Jameson? Jarvis? And how long was Franklin Richards *FOUR YEARS OLD* ? Answer: as long as he wanted to be, and the whole universe bent around it.
Spider man is such unique hero. His back story is dramatic but he is one of the most positive heroes in comics history, his life is sht and yet he helps people with theirs and never leaves this path, he has the most random super power but he brought his use of it to such a perfection that he can fight aliens, gods, magicians and avengers level threats.
One of the biggest reasons why the flash and spiderman are my favorite characters: The genuine empathy and kindness they show for the people of their homes
Even Joana had to learn this when Spider-man decided to take Sandman to some of his favorite places during the last moments of his life instead of turning him in. It’s as he said, “being Spider-man isn’t just about stopping the bad guys.”
Frankie: "If I can just rob this place, I can put crime behind me! The insurance will cover the losses, nobody has to get hurt!" Spider-Man: "NOT ON MY WATCH!!!!!"
Spidermans problem is that he just cant walk away. Like he wont allow himself to and thats pretty sad. So much sense of responsibility can be a bad thing. I wonder if they ever explored that.
Honestly, Spider Man deserve a criminal to which he has a bromance with, like some of the villains of the Flash. Just chilling and fighting for fun, but when things are rough for one or the other, they stop and talk it out. Peter deserve such a thing, poor guy
This is why Spiderman is such a good character. He isn't a superhero who has a normal identity. He is a man who happens to be a superhero. With Sipiderman it is always Peter Parker talking taking down criminals, it is always Peter Parker saving people. It may be Spiderman's mask but it is still Peter Parker the man protecting New York, not Spiderman the hero.
I feel like this is the reason I feel he is mostly referred to as Peter more than Spider-Man by comic fans. Of coarse, this could just be an easier way to say his name or an important distinction with the Spiderverse and such, but I’d like to think that it’s because we always have the man, Peter Parker, in our minds when we see Spider-Man saving the day.
The "I'm just some guy" part was in the ultimate Spider-man comic too, but there Peter almost kills the criminal because he impersonated him and also killed Gwen's dad
Literally didn’t think this was going to be good and just turn into another meme but I’m glad that he dose this because it makes me feel like people think super hero’s are there to do big things and save the world when originally it was to stop crime
I feel like if I was Frankie, if Spiderman stopped me at almost every single crime I ever attempted for the past decade or two I would've just taken that as a sign to just stop rather than "Yeah, let's lynch and gang up on him" long ago
For decades, but Peter remains the same. Being a comic book NPC is worse than real life! LOL Nice comic. It would be fun to see him come back with "Hey, Peter Parker, JJJ says you get those Spider Pics, tell him I cleaned up my act." And then he shows up as a superhero supplier or some such. I dunno, he's gotta have SOME skills that he can harness.
This is the hero who taught me to do the right thing, simply because its the right thing to do when I was 12. 14 yrs later I started teaching it to my girls, and 19 yrs later I'm teaching it to my grandsons. I don't know what Kind of difference I've made in this world but Im proud if I helped influence 5 new spidey fans to be good people
yeah and him doing the right thing always ends up with him being beaten down, i guess to keep going no matter how badly life treats you despite doing good is a good message but damn cut him a break more often lol
And then you have people praising Black Cat as his "true" love interest despite the fact that she constantly back stabs him. Some people just don't change.
apparently spidey's city is the best city to do crime. sure he throws some quips but you get a slap on the wrist and a pep talk. DC also did the same thing and Flash's star city is the worst city to do crime.
@@hotedits1991 Well spiderman has spider sense for detecting dangers, but he can't read people's minds nor have xray vision or super hearing to listen in on really sneaky and smart criminals. Especially those really good at blending in like Chameleon. Super villains with the ability to disguise themselves generally don't seem to act smart with their powers. Heck they can even do some good and make good money on the side and not have heroes down on their neck. Cobblepot and Kingpin for instance do bad, but they bring order to the criminal underworld hence is left alone until they do something big and get their operations dismantled.
Spider-Man is very similar to Superman in that they are constantly holding back. The difference being, Superman still shows an amazing portion of his strength and power, but Spider-Man is no slouch. He can lift up a mountain, he can react with split-second reflexes, he can gunk up your lungs with web fluid and kill you, and he can grab your face with his sticky hands and rip it clean off like he was pulling wrapping paper off a Christmas present. Spider-Man suffers because he holds back, but its still what he does because its the 'responsible' thing to do.
Yeah. Peter’s empathy and open mindedness is one of his key traits. If I recall correctly, he’s one of the few heroes who can see that, while his actions may be villainous, Doctor Doom has noble intentions and does what he does out of a sense of duty rather than entitlement or greed.
