It makes sense that the Avengers Spidey isn't as good as Insomniac's, as Avengers isn't just dedicated to a single person, but.... Come on, man! He shouldn't feel bulky and slow!
I just wish they wouldn't stop him so much when he shoots a web, if they let you keep your momentum it would be just right, of course this game can never ne as detailed as Insomniac's Spiderman, but holding him in the air for so long is obnoxious and unnecessary.
Avengers game looks kinda clean in its own way ngl but I wish they out that budget towards gotg game cuz everything in that game was great but so many environment bugs and the graphics on avengers are slightly smoother unless I forgot how they looked
The problem to me isn’t so much the speed of the swing it’s the fact that he pauses mid air for a split second every time he grips a web which just makes it look choppy
avengers spider man feels like if a real guy randomly just became spider man. Like this is the most accurate portrayal of just some dude being spider man
I think that webs sticking to the sky isn’t the biggest problem. The biggest problem is that every time you shoot the next web the game feels the need to slow you or freeze you into mid air all together. It’s not smooth at all. Same with the parkour stuff, every action you do slows you down it’s not fluid at all. Plus the wall crawling is slow and janky as well. The only thing that was okay at best in my opinion was the wall running
The thing I appreciate a lot is how the dedicated Spider-Man game captures fluidity and nimbleness in his movement. Like the wall crawl at 4:13, it looks like Spidey has just finished full sprinting a 15 mile marathon.
@@Voldemorts.Nipple How does that make more sense? Spiderman is the fastest Marvel hero next to Quicksilver. Marvel's Cinematic Universe has absolutely destroyed the legacy of the comics.
@@flowstategaming-c2t as far as gameplay goes it's much more fun the full sprint but spiderman slides through the walls because there's no way his footsteps are that quick in the game
@@Voldemorts.Nipple I think I hear ya. Personally, I'd love something similar to the early Assassin's Creed games. The climbing was quick and also fun and detailed.
The biggest problem with Avengers Spider-Man besides cloud swinging is pacing. Everything he does is slow and I guarantee if they made his animations like 50% faster on everything he does it would play so much better. He acts all big and bulky and all his moves are slow but he's supposed to be a super quick reflex gymnastic kid. His wall run and crawl and just overall actions are far too slow for Spider-Man.
@@yka9976 Exclusives are good it brings more individuality to a console besides near identical specs and look but i still wish i could play halo or forza on my playstation
@@peoplehatealex3xten550 fr. I ended up getting a ps5 to play spider man and now i wish i could play halo on next gen. Plus ps now is TERRIBLE and i've only been playing the same couple of games.
I think part of the reason the swinging is so slow is because if they gave it the same amount of speed and momentum as the insom spidey you’d realize how much smaller the avengers map is
the fact that you can do all this in an Avengers game full of different characters to play with itself is a big thing for me. the developers done a great job. and remember you are comparing it with a Spiderman standalone game and in that game we all hated playing as mj and miles as humans
A few things I noticed on why the Avengers' just feels a bit off - The webswinging breaks his momentum on every thwip, should have just kept going on - A fall from greater than 10 feet has him creating a sizable crack in the pavement and a lot of dust. Peter is that heavy so it doesn't feel right - The wall crawling is just the tips of his toes and fingers yet the sound design makes it sound like he is slapping the wall pretty hard - Peter will do a quip long before the criminals could see him as combat is started when it's detected. Should be when it's started
The animations also look cut in, and doesn’t flow. It looks like it starts the animation when the command is put in, and it doesn’t actually flow into the movement.
I think the biggest problem from what I’ve seen is that he’s to slow and clunky, Spider-Man’s swinging has always been about momentum that’s why people like insomniacs and treyarchs spiderman 2 swinging this just doesn’t look fun compared to that. That’s really all they needed to do
Cristal Dynamics made tomb raider, they know how to make a game. Blame square enix. They should give more time to development, that's really all they needed to do.
I think it's that slow so the other players can keep up and he doesn't get anywhere way faster than the rest. But it still sucks. He shouldn't have been added in the first place.
I mean I guess we can slightly appreciate it since this makes Spider-Man even more human compared to the insomniac game, except the physics is kind of lame in the avengers version it makes you feel like a sub par gymnast swinging around instead of spider man
One of the differences in the parkour which is minor but makes a huge difference is how in the avengers game, when you vault over something it slows you down a ton. Not only does this feel clunky, it makes you wanna do things like cool parkour LESS because of how slow and broken it feels. Imagine making a mechanic that’s supposed to improve gameplay and you make players not want to use it. Another thing is that, he literally drops like 6 feet and makes a dent in the ground and trips? Wtf? In PS4 spider-man, you get to look flashy without hindering any movement, you always move at generally the same speed and sometimes feel faster by vaulting over ledges or hopping past gaps, you feel rewarded just for running around which is why you want to do it more.
@@ritzie5693 Yeah, as much as i love swinging around the city there’s something so fun about jumping and running on rooftops, traversing parks and open areas, or narrow alleys
@@bolson42 Web swinging is my favourite thing. So I decided to do an entire playthrough where I omly swing when the gane forces me to and still had fun doing it lmfao.
@@bolson42 It's especially fun to do when the streets are full of people. When I swing, I do it really low, like just about the height of a street lamp. The skies are pretty boring and empty.
Watching this just makes me appreciate how much effort and passion Insomniac put into making the perfect (two and soon to be three, to be precise) Spider Man games.
My head-canon is that in the Avenger's universe, this Peter Parker has asthma which explains why he's so slow and breathes so hard from the simplest things like running and wall crawling
Bet I have a better head cannon. Avengers Spider-Man is that one guy you save in Insomniac’s game that’s fighting crime pretending to be Spider-Man lol
I look at it like this, look at the Batman Arkham games when you can play as different characters. different combos, different weapons and all. With a few tweaks they could’ve replicated that a little. No excuse for this game being as bad as it is gameplay wise. If it can’t be perfect don’t release it. Game feels so unfinished.
I'm ngl I like having a bash with characters like Cap and Panther, so I thought at the very least Spidey would be fun to fight with even if the swinging was bad. But DAMN. This is probably the worst Spidey I'ver ever used in a game. The PS2 games make this look awful.
As a dev myself, I think the main issue with avengers would have been that they had to create and account for all sorts of mechanics for different characters within the same system. If they only had to account for spiderman, they would have been able to make it better. Edit: I didn't realize that the game is just low quality in general 😅
As a dev as well, I actually find it really dope that they were able to do at least what they could with how many different characters and mechanics they have to push in this one system. They should have gave this game another year of development to really work out all the stuff.
I like that he is added to the game and I can appreciate that for a game that’s not based around him he’s actually pretty good in it. What I really don’t like about it though is that he literally swings on air like the web doesn’t attach to anything. If they just fixed the swinging movement a bit and made him actually swing on to a wall or a street lamp instead of him hitching himself on the air this would of just made it that 40% better personally.
But then if you go to any other biome or whatever their called your screwed they could just add the quinjet above him but also if there’s something to latch onto he does swing off of it
I mean that’s what happened in ultimate alliance and mobile games….. if it was a game about Spider-Man and it did that than sure that would be dumb but keep in mind for what the game is
@@robertmerin1080 yeah I know i get it it’s just that little bit of swinging onto a wall or a tree instead on to nothingness would of been quite a nice little touch
I understand that in the battlefield 2042 you can grapple off tornadoes. But there is absolutely no excuse for spiderman in a 2021 game to be swinging off clouds like back in the 2000 ps1 era. Why would you even apply this to your game. where is the love??
@@gektoast4968 @Gek Toast Fair enough response dude, It would be a unreasonable request to expect them to change maps and areas of the main game to fit in with a free DLC character. But I do feel they should have added in traversal zip lining or traversal jumps for those places with areas that are not suitable for spiderman to swing from that just so not to break immersion. Hell for me they could even assigned it to the same button and it swings or zip lines depending on the environmental surroundings. Just feels like a Spiderman cash cow with no love. Shame really because Spiderman could have helped the game bring back some or create a new audience. But this whole game just gives me $1/£1 store knock off vibes when it comes to Spidey and the Avengers.
Marvels spiderman has amazing little features like when spiderman starts swinging around the city you hear the amazing orchestra start to kick in, its things like that, that make you realize how much effort they put in to the game
Exactly at 5:16 Avengers Spider-man said "Come on guys, you're just embarrassing yourselves" to the developers because of how they programmed Spider-man to swing😂
With the gasping for air too. I get it, having the character actually sound like they’re exerting themselves adds to realism, but also so much about the rest of the gameplay is noticeably off and he’s a damn superhero.
How did square enix make great games like guardians of the galaxy tomb raider and kingdom hearts yet make spider man lame id rather play as black widow then him
As a dev I can tell how hard it would be to implement amazing spider man swinging mechanics that require physics with respect to building collision but that WOOOOOHOOO kills me
Honestly I think that a lot of the problems with Avengers’ game feel (not all, like 30-40%) comes from the camera movement. Notice how in Spider-Man PS4, the camera zooms in on Spidey when he’s falling while web slinging, to create a sense of momentum? And how the camera just halts in Avengers when Spidey vaults over an obstacle, so it feels like he’s really getting tripped up?
Just so satisfying how Spider’s movements in his game so easily flow into eachother. You could wall crawl up a building, grapple to a light post, parkour your way up and over another roof and dash up a skyscraper with only a couple of breaks to your stride.
is it just me or does the sound effects used for the Avengers game for the webs make the webs sound like they're really tense and tight? Like they're about to snap?
Here's to another day of thanking Insomniac for creating some of the best games through sheer presentation and overall game physics But when Ratchet and Clank swinging is better than Spider-Man's swing in Avengers, then you've got a problem game devs
The fact that the Avengers version of spidey attaches the webs to the birds up in the sky... that's the only explanation I can find.... Edit: I also just realized that the Avengers version of spidey's web sounds like are made out of some kind of thick ass rubber lmao
It's like they went back to the physics of the PS1 game for the Avengers Spider-Man. The way he swings it looks like a modernized version of the swinging in that PS1 game.
You can tell when a games developers actually care and when they don’t. The Spider-man PS4 web swinging feels so good because the developers understood the basic physics of momentum, inertia, and how a swing like this would feel irl. Not only that they also follow a lot of rules of animation as well, and call back to the comics and movies with him making iconic poses during his swings that you can clearly see. The swinging also changes slightly between environments and elevation, which makes sense if you’re swinging at an angle or from a shorter point than a skyscraper in central park. Meanwhile the avengers game… has none of that. The developers put no care into this game. Holy shit it looks horrible.
@@Crispyy69 and they couldn't make spiderman too fast. Then he would be moving at speeds that the game isn't designed around. Also the reason why his webs don't hit buildings but rather the sky i think is not because of lazyness, but so the player could swing regardless of surroundings.
@@erictheviking6424 i mean, they only made web swinging, meanwhile avengers needed to make way more than just one function. Since Fortnite only needed to make web swinging, they could focus more time and effort into that. Plus Fortnite is a game where adding a bunch of mobility to one thing won't hurt the game as much as adding insane mobility to one character in avengers would hurt that game.
@@Terminated_Account I love how ppl like you trash this game so hard every time a new dlc character comes out you say he/she won’t save this game mind you it’s the 4th dlc character out with 4 more characters releasing 2022 😂😂
My problem with the way he looks and feels in Avengers is the fact that Square Enix is trying to go for something grounded and realistic to an extent. That's something that can work in a movie, but in a game it just doesn't. Spider-Man's gameplay should be fast, kinetic, and fun. I don't get any of those three things from watching the SE version.
That was my No.1 complain when I first saw this game, idk why but extremely realistic moves just doesn’t feel right with me in an action video game like avengers, it’s distracting af
@@Steven_Kniven exactly man. If they were so bothered about realism they would’ve had his webs attach to actual objects to swing. They just lazy asf and couldn’t care whatsoever
You would think attaching his webs to nothing would mean he has an advantage and you would have more freedom with websling but it literally does the opposite. Since his attaching to nothing his swing peak height feels super limited. The maximum velocity feels capped, and there's no angular diversity making every swing feel the same. Marvel spidy just looks and feels funner
Which is absolutely nuts, since Web of Shadows from like...2008 or whatever had webs sticking to nothing and it had amazing swinging especially with the speed upgrades from the Spidey emblems. Avengers Spidey's swinging is just poorly made and it makes the lack of attaching to solid surfaces more pronounced than it should be. Hell it even makes it obvious that Spider-Man just doesn't fit in this game.
See Insomniac did web swinging right, they made it to where if you didn’t have leverage to attach a web, you were shit out of luck. That’s what made web swinging across some of the bay sections harder becasye you had to plan ahead or you were stuck in the water. A lot of the old games did this where it would just attach his webs to the sky with no grapple point, and IMO it heavily breaks immersion
IMO its not that big of an issue games like Lego Marvel Superheroes, Ultimate Alliance and Shattered Dimensions did this and it fits a lot better than building based swinging
Understandable😊😊😊 good game awesome game but when your out in thee open nothing to attach to implementations not needed fix that (wall running sideways also )
The avengers Spider-Man feels weirdly slow and as if the character has got like an extra couple pounds of weight added to him and it doesn’t help that at the end of every swing he just kinda stops in mid air and drops compared to the PS4 Spider-Man where it feels light smooth and it has a consistent bounce to it and it’s fluent through each swing compared to just stopping and dropping after every swing and at the start of every swing it feels smooth aswell like in avengers Spider-Man it reminds me of when I wake up in the morning and have to pull my self out of bed he feels like in a weird way he can’t be bothered lol idk if I’m not the only one who sees this but ye I understand that they didn’t really have as much time to put into this seen how it’s just a dlc compared to the PS4 one where they had a whole team to focus on a whole game based on it but like I feel the whole avengers game is just made mediocre in a way so idk what to make of this 🤷♂️
For me, the Spider-Man costume itself isn't bad. But the flying on the web seems to me a bit shoddy, and the combat system leaves a lot to be desired. Of course, I haven't played the DLC, but you can clearly see the sharp movements and maneuvers Spider-Man makes.
@Rice Cum he means how in the avengers game spider-man dosen't connect to anything like his web just goes straight up and attaches to the air. while in marvels spider-man you have to actually attach the web to a building or something to be able to swing
If they wanted Spider Man’s moves to feel more fluid and with more momentum, they should have never thought about balancing him like the rest of the characters, hell, none of them should really be balanced at all. Each character doesn’t feel like they’re as strong or as fast as they should be. If they couldn’t give the other characters the feeling when some of the characters like Iron Man, Hulk, or Thor in their own games, I’m not sure how they thought they were gonna do that with spider man when insomniac not only did it first, but better. Overall, I wanted Marvel Avengers to be good, I really did, but it just didn’t make the cut, and I don’t think it ever will.
@@ZayToDiffrent probably underpowered the video is on RU-vid the guy uses one of the abilities and just bullies Taskmaster and throws him off the building
The issue is that the FOV zooms back in and you slow down when you let go of the web. You also move WAY too slow during EVERYTHING. So as soon as you build up momentum from the swing it’s gone, the camera zooms back in, and you hang there in place for a second. It’s like Spidey hits an invisible wall in between every swing, it looks so sluggish. If the FOV didn’t immediately zoom in it probably wouldn’t be nearly as bad. Close FOV gives a cramped and slow feeling, and zooming out gives the player a sense of speed and natural momentum. Instantly zooming in makes Spidey’s loss of momentum seem even worse and makes it seem unintuitive, clunky and sluggish
Thank fucking hell someone finally mentioned this, I knew something was wrong when playing but couldn't figure out what. When I played Spidey in Avengers the swinging was pissing me off so much that I redownloaded Spider-Man and replayed the whole game 😂
Did not play any of these games. But, just the fact that in spiderman game , spiderman have his web really stuck on something and not like in avenger to just air ... That's a win all day long
Why does no one talk about how annoying it is when people ask why no one is talking about something? Also, if that's epic to you then you must be new to gaming.
I've never played the Avengers game. But when the video switched from that game's gameplay to 2018 Spider-Man, it's like night and day. The 2018 game just looks and feels so.... GOOD!
