With Sony having spent years trying to create a movie for one of Marvel's most famous super teams, there are a couple of things everyone should know about the Sinister Six film. Sony has been working hard to build what is now called Sony's Spider-Man Universe (SSU), and while it's missing a Spider-Man, it features some of the web-slinger's most famous villains, including Venom and Morbius. Although the roster of the Sinister Six has been on a constant rotation in the comic books, Sony is clearly setting up a Sinister Six cast based on the villains who have gotten solo movies in the SSU.
However, while the SSU is seemingly building to an epic Sinister Six event, the movie studio has already tried and failed to do so in the past. The Amazing Spider-Man series was working toward a Sinister Six movie, as both Amazing Spider-Man 3 and Sinister Six were in development. The move faction was going to have a similar line-up to the original Sinister Six in the comic books, as Vulture and Doctor Octopus were teased in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. However, when the series was canceled and Sony made an agreement with Marvel Studios to induct the web-slinger into the MCU, that put any iteration of the Sinister Six on hold.
There are currently three different Spider-Man universes; the SSU, the animated Spider-Verse series, and the MCU's Spider-Man, and not a single one of them has overtly mentioned the Sinister Six by name. However, the SSU has hinted at it, especially in the post-credits scene in Morbius when Vulture suggests to the Living Vampire that they team up. But while that's as close as it gets to news about Sinister Six, the impending releases of Madame Web and Kraven The Hunter hold promise for shedding more light on the potential future villain team-up movie, as the former should detail more of the multiverse due to its hero's powers, and the latter includes another prospective member of the Sinister Six itself.
