Spider-man Unreal Engine 5 vs Insomniac PS5 Game 

Sony announced the PC release of Marvel Spider man, will you guys play?

Keep in mind that while there's some visual upgrades for the PS5 this is still very much Insomniac's 2017 version of their engine meant to be playable on a freaking base PS4 without exploiting the full hardware of the PS5. In the other hand, the unreal engine 5 showcase is just a demo most likely running on a super high-end PC without any mechanics, missions or content added (making it a lot easier to run). It's insane what insomniac has accomplished and I can't wait what they'll do with the PS5. The Spider-Man 2 trailer was running in real time on a PS5, so it's fair to say that they're already doing a great job with it.

I think Insomniac’s world is how we want a fantasy land to be. Vibrant, colorful... clear. While UE5 is uncomfortably realistic: Makes you feel tiny, gray, polluted... depressing.

I think UE5 got the scale of the city perfected.

One thing that goes underestimated in Spiderman games is how fast he’s swinging, and how the game has to keep up. Insomniac’s Spiderman maintains great graphics with great stability all while making the world seamless. Add onto the fast paced combat and the web connecting to buildings, its really impressive. UE looks great, but in motion it struggles. Which is understandable because its not MEANT to move fast. But even him walking the engine is struggling rn. I’m sure that as time progresses it will get better.

And here I thought PS5 looked fantastic until it got compared to the Unreal Engine 5. WOW!! Unreal Engine 5 is literally like watching a movie! Hopefully Spider-man games get to be that detailed soon.

On a pure graphical level it's hard to compare. The PS5 Spidey game takes extra liberties with the art style and actual presentation of the city. The lighting is a lot less dramatic and there's a warm hue / tone to everything that softens the contrast. The Matrix city meanwhile is going for a hyper-realistic look so the colour palette and design of the city uses more neutral colours and the lighting is very 'stark' (not sure how to describe it but there's a lot more contrast).

It's amazing really... Just how much power and flexibility is there to allow one person to put together a demo of this quality. I can already tell that matrix city is going to become a cliche!

Never the less. The unreal engine 5 is great on next gen console and has great potential to show the future of gaming in terms environment graphical density but for spiderman being a last gen ps4 game, it still holds up very well.

This OST is just 🔥👌 And both the Demo and Game looks brilliant. Cant even imagine how good Spiderman 2 Ps5 will look ❤️

Nice, I think the UE5 one looks better but the Insomniac feels better and seems smoother. I would probably add some smoothing and procedural leaning to yours and try to make the camera feel less stiff. Good Job :)

I used to play Spider-Man 2 as a kid and thought "WOW, graphics cannot get any better than this." This is unreal. (no pun intended)

Spider-Man PS4 just like a lot of Open World, has downsized the overall scale of buildings and streets to optimize gameplay purposes and traversals. It still looks fairly impressive. I hope in the next game, they find ways to make it more immersive with 1:1 real life scale.

Wow this is crazy! If I could turn the clock back to my younger self who loved the Spider-Man games back just imagine getting to start with them looking like this, my mind is blown. The lighting is very very beautiful. I can't wait to see more

Insomniacs looks great. The Real difference between the 2 is the lighting. Unreal 5s lighting looks more realistic.

I would rate the Unreal Engine one 4/5 and the Remastered 4.5/5 because the only thing that change is some parkour spiderman can do and the graphics. If the Unreal Engine one gets a swing animations/movements like the spiderman miles morales and the story and human-like movements it will be better than the original

This is a beautiful comparison. You can clearly see the difference in quality. Like don't get me wrong the actual spiderman game has a very beautiful looking city. But this matrix city is acctuly made with next gen show off in mind. The materials alone are superior with their Light interaction. That being said the ray traced reflection of spiderman kinda looked better? Or maybe that's just due to the clarity of the reflection while the matrix city had sorta like a layer of roughness with maybe some dirt on it and reflection distance was maybe scaled dow. But yes this matrix city is the perfect show off for next gen. More so then anything before it

UE5 is clearly the superior engine, imagine if there was a whole team of actual developers working behind it, that’d be a gift from Heaven

This is literally just an asset flip merger. People are blowing this outta proportion. Somebody just took the Matrix City and Lewis' Spider-Man UE4 project from like 1 year ago and merged the two. It's an hour of work. Max. Lol.

The unreal engine is graphically the best game engine ever, it has been for years, but what epic games did with the unreal engine 5 is quite unreal (pun intended). The unreal engine 5 is so powerful it’s been used in multiple Hollywood movies and tv series to create graphics! A freakin game engine being used for Hollywood blockbuster cinema! And in the matrix resurrection it was one of the first films to have a scene’s graphics be entirely done and finalized with the unreal engine 5! In a video showcasing how the dojo scene was created using the unreal engine 5, and the cg supervisor said “what you see in the final image from this sequence is mostly all coming directly from unreal” and “this was the first time I truly wanted to say, what you see from the final film is coming from the unreal engine.” My point being, graphically wise no game engine is on par with the unreal engine 5, it’s on a whole new level. The unreal engine 5 is changing the game in multiple ways besides the graphics, it’s making the game and film industry significantly better! So if we’re judging this comparison solely on graphics then the unreal engine 5 wins hands down. Not the mention epic games didn’t have nearly as much time to make this as insomniac did with Spider-Man. This is merely a modded tech demo vs a finalized game. Imagine if epic used unreal engine 5 to create the matrix with as many years as insomniac did with Spider-Man to create a stunning video game! It would be legendary.

You should try playing Spiderman with the cell shaded costume on! I'm not sure if it's just a trick of the eye, but the entire city suddenly appears far more realistic in it's lighting and detail. Everyone I've shown this to notices the difference, I'd be interested in your opinion.

La version de Insomniac no tiene tanto detalle pero posee un estilo artístico propio por lo que a nivel global es mucho mejor que la demo de UE5, realismo no es mejor que un apartado artístico excelente, hay que saber equilibrar, cuanto mas de ambos posea para este tipo de juegos sin duda estaría genial.

I have a feeling that Spiderman 2 will look even better than what's display here in URengine 5.

Doubt it’ll be using UE5 since spiderman2 it has been in the making before UE5 was released.

They both use the same Houdini tech to parse the cities.... Its just that insomniac isn't generating scanned assets with unlimited levels of detail like the matrix demo is.

Remastered just looks way better to me. It looks significantly more cinematic and polished, and also realistic in it's own right. UE5 looks significantly more real, absolutely. But there's something about the softer cinematic look, the colours, the art style, that looks so much nicer in the remastered version. And it does still look realistic, it's no slouch even against UE5. I think it looks very realistic at times, notably when high up and looking at the streets below. That looked amazing. UE5 looks and feels like a tech demo. Remastered looks like a finished fully realised game world. I think that's playing a massive part in why I prefer it. It's also even more populated, which seems to make the world feel more alive overall. Overall, definitely remastered for me. It just looks so much better, even though on just "realism" alone, UE5 beats it. Never thought I'd see it this way.

Pc is more expensive but it's worthy by all things you can do on. PS5 is less expensive compare to Pc but you have limitations

I think the character model doesnt fit the UE5 world but other than that its an exciting idea that somebody might make a polished spider-man mod for that UE5 project

i kinda like more the textures from the unreal side but clearly the winner is the ps5, ray depth, volumetric lights and enviroment, animation character and camera, the list goes on. Still very impressive.

I kinda liked the insomniac one cuz it has better acrobatics but the unreal engine 5 has got some really cool streets

The unreal engine 5 is definitely better but there's something about the remastered version that I like which is the animation of the character or how the character's movement, well this guy created something close enough to the actual game but expecting the same animation for the character, same movements with the actual game in a remake , etc. It won't have the same thing as the original but if he has a crew to make the exact game he would probably make a better game with a proper group or crew or what ever a team of people who make video games.

Why does the buildings of the UE5 seem bigger and taller compared to Insomniac's? I can feel the scale of the buildings and cinematic vibe from UE5 but not from insomniac.

I know this won't happen but if insomniac can make NY as dense and detailed as the city in Matrix demo, similar level of lighting and micro detail clubbed together with insomniacs gameplay and design would make for an absolute banger. Looking at the comparison it hit me how small and less detailed NY in game looks compared to Matrix demo for obvious reasons as the demo came just now while the game is older. But my god would it be a treat to swing around a city as detailed as the Matrix demo.

In unreal engine city, I feel the sensation of greatness. Those building’s are really big and the streets are large. Besides, in the Spider Man ps4, the city of New York it’s out of proportion, making the building look not tall at all.

Definitely Insomniac, unreal Engine looks cool but it just feels less detailed and very cold and not as welcoming if that makes sense, even though its awesome!

Insomniac is much much better. I like the visuals and some kinda effect using fov and motion blur that make's you feeling that atmosphere.

Dont mind the graphic but the gameplay, storyline and animation was superb isomaniac (years on years development) but on UE5 if take on the same step it will be more awesome.

Spiderman remastred still looks better imo, u.e obviously has better graphics but its not being used to its full potention (i know its a tech demo) spiderman has birds, people, sound and the world is more alive overall which is what make it look more real to me.

Insomniac said they're upscaling the city in the sequel, I just hope it's similar to this video. The only spiderman game I recall playing that had a good human to building size ratio was spiderman 3 if im not mistaken

Unreal 5 has better graphics, Spider man game has better design. But we must remember it's just demo vs game. Un5 demo it's for showing us the graphics + performance so it's more like "copy-paste". We must wait for unreal engine 5 games to see full potential.
