Putting the Spiderfarmer SF-4000 through its paces to see if it can hang (ha!) in a 5x5. Thanks to spiderfarmerebay for sending the light for free to test. ebay: www.ebay.com/i... Amazon: amzn.to/38qkPhc (affiliate link)
That has to be the most in depth review of a light I have ever seen. And that contraption you built to move your meter is off the chain. Thanks man, thumbs up for sure
You could be the number one channel on reviews with the detailed par readings. I'd love to see you test cheap amazon and ebay lights, im always tempted by them.
i bought the sf 4000 partly based off your testing. they sent me the 2021 version that has the better light distribution the diodes are spread out in the center and packed in the corners. i was gonna run mine at 30inches but i think i can go closer due to the better light distribution. kinda wish they would send you a 2021 version your testing is next lvl.
Nice I am going to order one for my new 4x4 Electric Sky is on a 3 month back order so Spider farmer it is!! Did you get the updated version on Amazon??
@@TitleTownStacker yea they have the title listed as the 2021 model they havent updated pictures or anything just the title on amazon that i seen. when i got it i was a bit sceptic but i had contacted spider farmer they said it was the new 2021 version should be better for seedling and clones and overall better the center par is lower and more spread. I dont have a good par meter to test, just been using cellphone and lux conversion and it seems to drop more consistent from center to edge or corner compared to testing seen in this video. still nice to see spider farmer taking feedback and making improvements im happy with the light. went from a 2x4 with sf-2000 to this sf4000 in a 4x4.
Nice work! Professional touch and lots of data. Far more better than anything ive seen in youtube alltought there are lots of good channels, but you nailed it what comes to measurements and data.
Delivering the need to know in detail! A++ for granular data, maybe links to the high res maps on your blog would be nice? After seeing readings at 12", I was waiting for the core area to ignite.
Flowered AA grade in a 6.5 x 6.5 closet space at 330/460 watts, then full 460 watts for last three weeks. Terpy and dense. Low heat with mini desk fans and low energy use. Hands down, the best bang for the buck. Made back cost in one harvest (coco coir with organic amendments).
Considering the fact that even a sub par grower should be able to pull close to a gram a watt…… I would hope you’d recoup investment plus quite a bit more with grams going for an average of $10 a piece. You should’ve gotten 3x your money…. Minimum. If not you’ll need to do some extra research and get your growing skills up lol
@@nickspeakstruth133 Are you trolling on a year old comment? I mention I’m a happy customer with a light that paid for all my equipment and supplies in one harvest, and you spring into action? You think this is where your services are needed? You thought, “the World needs and cares to hear what I say”
@@WorthyBuzz correct, because they should have realistic expectations. A gram a watt is not at all a “good” grower by any means. So using that as a base starting point is a good measure. It’s not really the “best bang for the buck” though tbh because those who buy cheap, buy twice. Poor man pays twice, rich man pays once. Better to spring for higher quality lights and get the 2.5 grams a watt, then get UV/IR bars and run those to get an extra 6-8% thc levels in the last 2 weeks of flowering. Age of comment is irrelevant because you mentioned nothing that was time specific, neither did my response. You also were so triggered by a simple observation that you responded within the hour to an “old comment thread”, so I fail to see any relevant point in your attempted cop out. Fact of the matter is, you get what you pay for. I’ve purchased an sf4000 before and for a beginner with no experience in a 3x3 it would be a great light. This thing doesn’t even hardly have the footprint to cover a 4x4 the way they say it will and that’s extremely obvious based on these data sets provided in the video. Even the corner foot around it is struggling. If people want “dense and terpy” colas as you suggest are what this light gives, they’d be shocked to see the density of colas from a better light, all I’m saying. They could still achieve that with a 3x3 tent rather than a 4x4 though too if they were dead set on this light, plus they’re cheaper. You’re welcome for the free advice from a person that knows a thing or two because he’s seen a thing or two.
@@nickspeakstruth133 yeah... ummm... If you felt this strongly about spider farmer being cheap "poor man's" gear.. then why the hell are you watching a review video about one of their products? I am a new grower and to be honest I'm looking at this fixture because all the "poor man" companies like Viparspectra, Mars Hydro and Spider Farmer are producing results with current growers showcasing their usage. With all of your sage wisdom and expensive gear.. do you have any grow series up? Nope but Hygro hydro, Inside Hydro and Grow to Learn and 2x2 tent grower are killing the game and teaching with what you call poor man's gear. So as a new grower, unless you can show and teach with a RU-vid channel of your own, keep the free advice to yourself.
Always full power. If you want to know what it is at half power, etc., you can multiply by .5 and be damn close. I started out measuring multiple power levels but found the results were so predictable there was no point.
Nice maps! This is basically a nice starting point if starting out with this light..very detailed! I picked up this light on a sale... decent price for $450 and thought I would give it a try..they have updated the boards and took diodes from the center and bunched them out in the corners. The Atrium 100watt light is very similar (or vice versa) and they added more far red diodes. With the relocation of the diodes it hopefully has a better overall coverage.. however I've not found a par map of the new layout yet. ✌️
Love the setup you have. Question though. Since this light, as of the date you posted this video doesn't really seem to do a 5 x5. Then what do you suggest for a budget-friendly LED light for a 5 x 5? Today there is an SF-7000 LED Grow Light that claims to be a 5 x 5 (but so did this light you're testing) and presently the price point for it is $740.00usd. I've crunched some numbers but am not really ready to pull the trigger on the SF-7000 LED Grow Light for that price considering my 1000 HPS is doing the job in my 5X5. Your thoughts, please. And all over the net, most people claim min to flower with is to be 400 micro muls.
I'm sure you've already solved this problem but I just wanted to tell you my set up in my vivosun 5x5.. I have 4 leds.. 2 sunrise bar2400, 1 bloomplus xp3000 and one bestva 100w.. for a total of 880w led. I grew 7 plants and did amazing.. you get better coverage with multiple lights..
I agree I was hoping for a good cost savings power / distance recommendation...- I'm now thinking of keeping my girls in smaller pots within my 4x4 tent within 2x2 area @ 12" @ 20% And see how they do.. my lil girls are in 9-5 gallon bags already so I'm thinking to just go with 24" with same 20% and after a week increase power in increments every week up to 50% and see how that works..🤷🏽♂️
The DLI levels are much lower than the calculators I've been using online. Is that because the spectrum of the light or something? I assume your readings are more accurate so I've apparently been giving my plants not nearly enough light.
Wow! Subscribed for sure, great review...just what I needed to know before knowing what to buy for a 5x5. Can you test any of the "bars" light of 600w or so that claim to be for a 5x5? Thanks for this content man, really awesome! Salud!
Just goes to show the difference in performance, between different bin Samsung Lm301s as HLG 550 readings are much better, yet it uses the same amount of chips and same power as SF4000, Clearly not all Samsung Lm301s are created equally. You really do get what you pay for when it comes to an HLG product. Can you do a PAR/Performance test like you have done here for HLG 350R... Many thanks LED Gardener, your tests are by far the best I have seen on RU-vid :))
thats awesome stuff bro really i bought the SF4000 in September my first ever indoor grow is at week 8 of flower i didnt get the good stretch not quit sure why, the buds are finally thickening up now. Things i did wrong only 4 week veg next will be at least 6 maybe 8 also was not giving the right nutrients was thinking it said 1 ml was 1 tsp thats 1/5 less eyes are bad im 61 biker and bad bad back i use for med and love the high also playing with power and height first indoor ever i love doing keeps me learning every day Love the videos bro thank you
Cant thank you enough for the work your doing it is so informative. I have a general LED question , with the 301 b chips and meanwell combo being essentially the industry standard could you replicate these same results if you purchased say five of the bloomspect ss1000 which uses 301 b and the 100 meanwell at 79 bucks on Amazon, so for 400 bucks that would be pushing 500 watts though mean well drivers powering 1090 diodes, I guess my question is with every one using the same components , cant the same results in theory be achieved by all the various light companies? I ask because I compared the bloomspect ss1000 to the sf1000 and they arw identical with one exception and that is the sf1000 uses 72 cool white diodes and the bloomspect uses 70 besides that they use identical parts, with the sf 4000 running $560 on Amazon you could get 7 of the ss1000 bloomspects for the same price pushing more wattage with a few hundred more diodes? I know this is is a long winded question but with so many people using the same parts its a bit confusing as a consume
Hi. First off great video! I have a question. I have a 5x5 room. I'd like to run two sf4000 at say 60-80%. Is 24" a safe hight or should I go higher?? Thank you.
When you measure the temperature of the board what should be the most relevant reading spot ? Also what would be the recommended operating temperature range (of the board) in your opinion ? Thanks !
Hello hope you're doing well I have 2 sf4000 in a 4x8 tent What would be your recommended height for veg and what light tensity Right now I'm running light 24" from canopy at 50% powerThanks any help would be appreciated ps plants are only 3 weeks into veg
just letting you guys know if the wire hanger touch's the diodes why the light is on the diodes burn out i lost half my light's on my mars hydro ts 600 =-/
What if I put a Spider Farmer SF4000 and an SF2000 together in a 5x5 tent at $800 for both. Would I get Same or better uniformity of light throughout the 5x5 space than using (1) HLG Scorpion Diablo at $1,400. That’s a $600 savings. Also Taking into consideration spider farmer is good for Veg and flower.
I just bought a sf2000 to go along with my sf4000 for my 5x5. Hopefully I get great results. I'm still confused on how low I should hang my lights during flowering
@@Impossibly-Possible There are more efficient solutions now, but there's nothing wrong with these boards, except it's tricky to get a good coverage in a 5x5. If you put two SF-4000s in it, GREAT but you could cover the same area with 3 SF-2000s and in each case you will only cover a 5x4 area well because the boards are simply not long enough.
I assume the sweet spot of 2 SF-2000 would be 24" as well? I just lowered mine after a quick lux check from my tablet, yeah way too dim for a 5x5 with the 2000s I can only get around 50000 lux even near the center, so that claim is disingenuous. I may up to a HLG next time because this is far from cutting it.
Thats what I was worried about that big hot spot so I went for 2xSF2000 in my 4ft x 4ft be amazing to see them tested to see which is better I think having 2xsf2000 is better to cover plus they only use 200wattts each
@@LEDGardener by the way what a great led review channel I will be watching and sharing keep up the great work mate and if you could do a test with 2x Sf200 in a 4ft x 4ft that would be epic
You should test the Kingbrite lights sold on alibaba. ip65 quantum board lights with samsung lm301h, cree XP-E2 660nm, and mean well drivers for half the price of comparable lights shipped from the usa Edit: They have multi bar lights also for half the price
@@LEDGardener @LED Gardener if you contact them they might be willing to loan you one. They were extremely helpful and willing to work with me when I talked to them
@@mjlourens565 Check out actual specifications from SAMSUNG, there is no difference. I have seen them and I have heard from actual partners from SAMSUNG who I buy LED's and LED strips. They are exactly the same, literally.
Agreed, especially if targeting a 5x5. I'm sure the increased cost of upsizing the heat sink, and the resulting increased shipping costs, etc. are also factored into their equation to be able to sell the unit cheap enough though.
@@tilamz6 I was upset with them lying about efficacy numbers and just plain dishonesty about their product they have since then attempted to make things right. Currently in the process
