I remember this guy from the Seinfeld DVD commentary, seems to be brutally honest with a very dry sense of humor. He wasn't being rude, he just not a setup guy...
Wow! Can you imagine sharing an office with Stephen Colbert and Steve Carell? How fun would that be? You'd actually look forward to going to work every day lol
I can see that this was eventually revamped into Comedians in Cars getting Coffee. Some of those cars even were in that show, the Police Beetle at least was.
It was definitely the most memorable segment. You can find a couple of the segments on RU-vid if you look up the right keywords, and they definitely had something to them. Like a few of the jokes on Electric Lincoln were funny but not executed well and dragged too long. The time traveling gerbil thing had a neat concept too, but needed better execution.
The funniest story I hear Spike tell on one of the late night shows, was about being tasked with going to interview Tommy Lasorda early in his Letterman tenure....as he put it, he met Tommy in the shower...his "junk" was hanging down to his knees...very funny...Sadly, don't see it on YT anymore.
I always wanted a boat car, (kinda still do), but it just now occurs to me, That body of water is just cleaning off all the dirt and smog that's been accumulating on that car for YEARS, and what if there's an oil leak? BLAQ!! no. if they make one, that thing has to be hermetically sealed like tupperwear.
@WaitingHit: I believe the vibe is real. Colbert and Carell both auditioned for Dana Carvey and Dana hired them both. This guy Spike just walked right into their office because corporate sent him after upset from viewers from the very first skit on the first episode. In reality I have a feeling he was probably a wrench in the machine of the comedic geniuses of that show and didn't fit in.
Haha. Yeah, Spike wrote for the greatest sitcom ever (Seinfeld) and got primary writing credit for nine of those episodes (syndication and DVD residuals for that show=$$$$$). If his only accomplishment had been the very famous and very funny Soup Nazi episode, he would still be a comedy legend. He also wrote for the late-night show that just about every modern comedian was dying to perform on (Letterman). He's lived the dream, and he never, ever has to work again. Everything he does now is just for kicks. Both of these guys are brilliant, but if I was going to be jealous of either of them, it would be Spike.
It feels like they're playing off Stephen's vibe, Stephen seemed offended at the guys comment that he was worried for Stephen and Steve Carrel (sp) while working on the Carvey show. Stephen didn't seem to like this guy that much.
The Dana Carvey Show was definitely ahead of its time for comedy on television. They broke rules and they didn't care, which is why they were shut down early but it was genius comedy! Yet this dude was totally low key shatting on Colbert. Not cool!
