Spillgate Test - Clyde Dam 

I got to look through it 3 or 4 years ago when they had the public open day and was amazed at the huge feat of engineering. Also I can remember going to the look out when there was that flooding in Nov of 1999. The sheer volume of water that was being released as the gates were open at their maximum caused the ground to shake. At the 2:40 mark on the video to the lowerleft there is a rectangle cut out, that is a diversion channel and is opened sometimes to spill extra water in emergencies. This was also used.

Love me some hydro action but how can the concrete face of the damn look so tarnished after only 30 years, when something like Hoover Dam, 87 years old still looks like new? Both locations are quite arid.

The air raiter works well worked in there think u could walk out there when it spilling water

It’s hard to imagine what it would’ve been like if Clyde Dam didn’t exist, or was built elsewhere, we would still have Old Cromwell Town, man I now wish I got to visit it before it went underwater

Why didn't they test all the gates only two of them

The separation gap in the middle 2 metres wide will look after any earthquakes the is made up of 2 halfs goin ed in the middle

If there was any fish in that pond below that should have pushed them right out.
