I love it when fishermen share info on where they fish. There is a young couple that fish many spillways within 2 hrs of my home and they act like they own it. I commend you for sharing that you are at the tailwaters of Carlyle Lake. I will prob. never fish that spot, but since I grew up in Vandalia, I find it very interesting. Thanks 618

It's the algae growing on the ramp under water. It is slippery as all get out. I slipped on the boat ramp a month back launching my boat at a local lake. Was not expecting it to be like sheer ice.
@poststalone1496
@poststalone1496 4 года назад
Ellros for sure. All my lakes’ ramps have deep groves so they’re pretty much non slip luckily. I normally drop off my yak off to the side of the ramp anyway. I hate blocking the ramp for actual boats.

I've caught multiple 4 plus lb stripers, many 2lb white bass, and many 25-50+ lb flathead cats out of the Carlyle Spillway. In April the white bass spawning run is insane. Used to be alot better but the Asian and big head carp have gotten so thick in there it's wreaked havoc on the fishing.

In my opinion the easiest way to tell a walleye and sauger apart is the tail. If it has a white spot on the bottom of the tail it's a walleye. And if it's a sauger it will have black spots on it's dorsal fin.

Don't know where you're shopping but I paid 2300 for my topwater pdl 120 after taxes and everything. (Thats what his first pedal drive was). You cant find them used for 1500. I saved all summer to get mine, cuz I was gonna get a perception pedal drive that's 1500 or so, but there are issues with them and the old town warranty just destroys anyone elses. The oldtown topwater pdls are 1900 for the 10ft smaller one, and 2100 for the 120pdl. Then the predator that he just got is 2600 I think, they used to be 3000 but they lowered the price when the topwater pdl came out.. 1500 would be a steal on a topwater 120 pdl. I think the topwater 120 regular without pedal drive is close to 1200 or something. Oldtowns have way better warrantys than Jackson's, natives, hobbies, etc, and are cheaper. Lifetime hull warranty and 5 yr pedal drive warranty. Consider that if you go to buy one. A guy I know broke his hull by trying to force a metal rod through scupper hole, and old town sent him a new one with new pedal drive for free, no questions asked. He just had to give his broke one to our local kayak store and pick the new one up. Old town told the store to destroy the broke one, all they took back was the old pedal drive. If you break your hobie drive, you gotta pay for parts to fix it. I dunno what their hull warranty is.

@@catchofthedave8681 just got a predator for 2401.56 during black friday. I was out trout fishing and needed bait. Went to the tackle shop in that area and they had them on sale. Picked one up right then and there. I had my eye on it because of the warranty but I was considering the PA12 360 mirage drive but the price was making me hesitate. So glad I did because the money I saved from not buying the hobie made outfitting my predator way easier. Got a helix 7 SI for 400.
@catchofthedave8681
@catchofthedave8681 4 года назад
PwrOver9000 yeah thats dope thats a great deal. The predator is a badass yak, i like a lot of its features better than my topwater, but the only thing I dont like about the predator is the hull shape. Depending on your balance you can stsnd and fish fine in it, but I’ve seen people flip them more than once, usually only in the ocean and surf, but it can happen. The topwater doesnt flip. Its got that catamaran/bonafide/hollowed middle shape. You have to make it flip. A guy I fish with in my kayak tourneys flipped a jackson pedal drive, well he was flipped I should say. A big cruiser boat went between him and the shore and threw a huge wake into him. So it can happen. But thats a hell of a buy, and it shouldnt flip unless something crazy happens

That's one of my favorite places to fish. The creek isn't very good. I drift fish for sauger/walleye. Use a bright colored 3/8 oz. jig with Berkley Gulp 3" minnow/black shad. The weight of the Jig might depend on the weight of the line. I use sunline siglon V 12 pound. Just use the current to float down the river and feel the bottom. Walleye have a very light bite like Crappie. Best eating fish in the whole Midwest. Better than Crappie and super easy to fillet. They practically fillet themselves. Sells for $20 lb. for good reason. I have caught everything in the strech you fished. Big Catfish, Musky, Drum, Paddlefish, Whitebass. The lake has killer white bass fishing using Mepps spinners, but also very big waves. So cool to see my fav. youtube fisherman at one of my favorite spots to fish. This really made my day.

Yea, they are different kayaks. Same company, different yaks. I own a topwater120pdl, the predators are dope too, but since I bought mine with money I saved I went with the topwater. The extra stability was what sold me. I couldn't justify spending the extra 400 for the predator when it just doesn't have that dif features. It's got a better hull for going faster, but topwater is more stable. Plus I feel like the topwater 120pdl has more deck space to stand up, etc. The predator has more mounts for accessories and is maybe a little more customizable.

This is the most fished and most productive spot besides lake Michigan in IL. you are overlooking the key structures. The lower dam under the General dean is awesome. Beware of the water intake. The water is a pretty consistant 7'-8' from dam to dam. With a few exceptions the pipes under the walking path on the east bank empty onto a raised pan. I wade the entire pan. It goes out 1/3 of the way accross its a couple hundred feet wide. It holds tons of fish above it just upream catfish. Just downstream sauger. There are potential records in many species, whitebass. Walleye, Drum, flathead, and more. There is another small pan also on the east bank near the end of the parking lot at the end of the trees. About halfwaybetween the big pan and the main dam. I have caught 16# hybrids, 25" walleye, 15# drum, thousands of white bas and sauger. All on Shadraps and jigs, from the shore or wadeing. The place is best in low water.when the water drops drastically at the dam below the general dean, suspension bridge. The tail end of that hole under the bridge is best. Less preasure and biger fish. Then there's always the waterfall it creates the deep channel belowit is on the west side. I battled a buffalo down there that would probly go 50#

Nick, I'm no expert, and I couldn't see that fish that well, but I think it was a walleye, it appeared to have a white spot on the bottom of it's tail. It wasn't that defined though, so it may have just been because it was a younger, smaller one, or maybe it was a hybrid saugeye. I know I've caught saucer before and they don't have any white on their tail, and they have a lot more defined saddle shape pattern on their body. This one had it, but it wasn't real defined. That's why I think it was a walleye or saugeye as opposed to a sauger.

That;s why I love this channel.You make all the same goofs I would make. A good day of fishing always starts with a wet bottam.

Fishes all day and finally catches one back at the boat ramp. Yeah, that’s about right.

This may be a silly question to some people but why is there so much foam in the water. I live in utah and have rarely seen that much.

When you are just peddling from place to place you could troll with a crank bait or my all time favorite, a roadrunner. You up your chances on a slow day. ✌️

Gold Fish work amazing in that location. Live bait under a bobber and let it drift past in the current.

Nice my guy it’s a sauger! Can tell because the tail didn’t have a white tip in the bottom of the fin but I could be wrong but in my opinion it’s a sauger my guy! Congratulations on it being your first!

Walleyes are typically green in color and sauger are brown/tan in color.
