Good show...wondering about the impact of hard water(maji ya chumvi) on spinach...I am in Utawala Embakasi and every time I do Spinach I have this problem with some white dusty substance on the leaves.The eventually turn yellow and die....
Hi Kym, thank you for reaching out. First, your observation is Right and perfect, hardwater problems are real. First, it is easier for plants to absorb softwater than hardwater due to minerals strain that binds soil and important nutrients together, making it difficult for plant to use. You can even agree you have to irrigate more to enable plant survive further, that's not the case with softwater such as dam. (I have both and I have done comparison)
You will agree with me that continued use weakens soil productivity due to effect on soil PH.. and that's why improvement is realised during rains that supply more softwater to the soil, helping plants pick up well even with the saline soil... The remedy is to test soil PH and get recommendations on how to treat your soil to undo the continuous effects of the salt water...you could also adopt reverse osmosis on your well to ensure those salts ( mg, CA and caco3 ) have less effects on soil
