This video describes the physiology (i.e., how it works) of my spinal cord injury. Specifically, it explains why I have a knee-jerk reflex but no motor control of or feeling in my knee.

Thank you Mr. Siebert! It's mainly about "you won't experience the feeling of those signals"

You're welcome! Yep, that's the main idea...to feel something the signals have to make it up to the brain.

is your whole spinal cord affected or just the one side of the spinal cord?

Hey Mr. Siebert, thanks for this video, it's helpful for year 1 of med school :). I was under the impression that the patellar tendon reflex is monosynaptic, instead of polysynaptic. Doesn't that mean that the afferent neuron synapses directly with the efferent neuron, and that therefore an inter-neuron or relay neuron isn't involved? Thanks.

why is the initial reflex pain? shouldn't it be muscle stretch reflex?

Does the actual spinal cord cause the motor neuron to reflex jerk not the 🧠 brain? Someone else explained it this way wondering if that is correct?
