SPINAL TAP LIVE 1992 when things really do go wrong

Performing 'The Majesty Of Rock' at The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert for AIDS Awareness Monday, 20 April 1992 at London's Wembley Stadium.
It took a while to get power to Christopher Guests guitar..leaving Michael McKean flapping in the wind in front of thousands and a few million watching live. This was not staged as you can see by McKeans increasing discomfort.. but fair play to him he got through it.

At one stage The Tap held real life auditions for a new drummer, Mick Fleetwood showed up in a full haz_ mat suit and helmet
@citybeatdisco19
@citybeatdisco19 Год назад
@@daneenmurf1043 when i read stuff like that (u put), I google & fact check as stories get distorted over the decades. Anyway... it's close enough. Also turning up to that "auditions" (& bits of it on youtube) was one of The Banshees & one of The Go-Gos (they played the drums together), Mickey Dolenz from the Monkees (who could actually play the drums, perhaps not as well as who we hear playing then in the TV series & songs, but he could play). The other Monkees eventually learnt to play for real, too. Interesting that the Monkees & Spinal Tap have something in common - they both started as/in TV series. Also, I don't know why some people suggest that Spinal Tap aren't a real band. Ozzy Osbourne believed the "doco" movie 'This Is Spinal Tap' was a real documentary about a real band. True story!

@@citybeatdisco19 Since you demand truth and facts look for This is Spinal Tap _ the official companion book to the film. It has the film transcript (the most of it was improvised so there was no script as such), song lyrics, the tap'istory which includes both fictional and real_life events in band and bandmember history. Harry Shearers film and musical credits take up two pages ! Derek Smalls attended the London School of Design _ mostly because of the institutions initials Did you know the album version of Christmas With The Devil was meant to contain a backward lyric _ " turn the fucking thing around and play it properly you schmuk "

I enjoyed that more than 99% of the music I hear in this genre. There's a pulse in the new-born sun A beat in the heat of the noon There's a song as the day grows long And a tempo in the tides of the moon It's all around us and it's everywhere And it's deeper than royal blue And it feels so real you can feel the feeling And that's the majesty of rock The fantasy of roll The ticking of the clock The wailing of the soul The prisoner in the dock The digger in the hole We're in this together... and ever... In the shade of a jungle glade Or the rush of the crushing street On the plain, on the foamy main You can never escape from the beat It's in the mud and it's in your blood And it's conquest is complete And all that you can do is just surrender To the majesty of rock The pageantry of roll The crowing of the cock The running of the foal The shepherd with his flock The miner with his coal We're in this together... and ever... When we die, do we hunt the sky? Do we lurk in the murk of the seas? What then? Are we born again? Just to sit asking questions like these? I know, for I told me so And I'm sure each of you quite agrees The more it stays the same, the less it changes And that's the majesty of rock The mystery of roll The darning of the sock The scoring of the goal The farmer takes a wife The barber takes a pole We're in this together... and ever...

That's Ric Shrimpton, the twin brother of the late drummer Mick Shrimpton who appeared in "This Is Spinal Tap" and tragically died from spontaneous combustion. (Both are played by Ric Parnell, who was an established drummer by the time of the film, such as for Toni Basil's hit "Mickey". In the film Mick mentions having drummed for "Atomic Rooster", which was an actual band Parnell had been in).

@bacongl, Tobias was a good brand of bass until Gibson acquired the brand and produce cheap versions under the Epiphone brand, which are made in China. Gibson ends up killing every brand of guitar they acquire. What's even more egregious about the Tobias Brand, is that Michael Tobias had to take Gibson to court to be able to use the letter T when he started another bass guitar company, MTD (Michael Tobias Design). Far superior bass guitars compared to anything that Gibson currently churns out.

For comparison, I've seen Metallica at an indoor venue a couple of times and to me indoor concerts tend to sound louder than outdoors. They weren't great musicians, but they were pretty good. They had a guest musician at every stop on that tour to join them on "Big Bottom", the guest musician on our stop was Adrian Belew of King Crimson...

That’s the problem, they are too damned good for a spoof band and some even describe them equal to and possibly better than some of the bands they are parodying. I’m not in agreement with this point because their contemporaries at the time were and still are great bands.

What is really epic is they still tour...on occasion. I saw some video where the 3 of them are so old they look like Peter, Paul & Mary onstage🤣 (I mean that in the utmost respect though, because I was an "opening act performer" for Peter, Paul & Mary at their final show in Portsmouth, NH in the mid 90's).🎶 To SEE "Tap" even NOW would be EPIC🎸🎶

The delay with the guitar P.A was not part of the act, was a legit incident. One longstanding rumour has always been it was Slash and/or Slash's roadie who sabotaged it just prior to them coming on, for unknown reasons.

Here is something unbelievably crazy! Christopher Guest is in the films "A Few Good Men" and (the original) "Death Wish." And what characters did he play in those movies? Well, you're gonna shit again! In the former he was the Marine doctor who testified, and in the later he was an police officer.

And with this one LIVE SHOW Spinal Tap earned a higher place in "rock & roll" history on the "best live show" list than LED ZEPPELIN. Who are yet to produce a TRUE LIVE PERFORMANCE to compare to it where even "casual" music fans and non-musicians can watch Jimmy Page closely and intently while listening to the "live music" and NOT SEE that he's the KING OF AIR GUITAR LIVE-CONCERT "KARAOKE" WITH OUT THE "PERFORMANCE" PART. Even the worst karaoke singers ever are still SINGING LIVE. Jimmy Page hasn't played guitar "live" with TV cameras rolling and closeups of his "playing" YET that wasn't clearly "live" in that he was definitely touching the guitar and strumming strings but not so "live" as far as his GUITAR and STRINGS and PICKUPS and CABLE being connected to any "amp" and speakers the AUDIENCE could hear.
