Spinning a Cessna 152

CFI demonstrating a spin and recovery in a Cessna 152 to a student. Cross controlled (student pilots think uncoordinated) power off stall results in a (intentional in this case) spin to the left. Recover technique memory aid PARE: Power to idle, Ailerons neutral, Rudder full opposite, Elevator forward to break the stall. Recover wings level and pull up before VNE. Do not attempt this without proper training and a qualified CFI.

I learned how to do spin recovery inadvertently myself after doing just this during solo training. My flight instructor didn't teach it in the cockpit other than just going over PEAR. But it came into my head as I saw the earth spinning ahead of me.
@sjsandhu2980
@sjsandhu2980 Год назад
Well that was not safe thing to do on your own. PEAR is not universal for all aircraft. Always check the POH for the correct technique.

@sjsandhu2980 he said inadvertently. That means it was an accident, and was not on purpose. I bet he was just glad to get out of that safe.

PPL in 1990 in Canada in a 152, practicing spins and spiral dives were a routine part of my training. After getting comfortable doing them with the instructor I did them regularly while soloing later on. At that time it was just a routine part of flight training, to me they were one of the more exciting aspects of learning to fly and nothing to be feared.

Experiencing a spin is good training. I did my spin training in a Decathalon. The first few were completely disorienting, but after that each became more "normal". By the end of that training, maybe 50 spins in total, I was able to initiate a spin, do a requested number of turns, and recover within 10 degrees of a heading. Spin training/practice is highly recommended for any pilot.

At my request, before I soloed in a C-152, my flight instructor and I went up to 7000 ft and practiced spins. I’m glad we did. The conditions for an unintended spin are easy to perceive and avoid, and simple -if a little counterintuitive, perhaps- to rectify swiftly and in a fraction of a rotation. …Iff the pilot understands the aerodynamics. It builds due confidence to see that it’s nothing to fear.

Did a checkout in q 152 today, cfi turned to me and went "youre starting commercial right, ever spin?" "No" "you wanna?" Never did i think i could experience such a concentrated smoothie of adrenaline, terror, and fun

As I remember spin recovery ... Full opposite rudder ... stick CENTRALLY forward ... centralise rudder pedals. We did 6 spins in a Beagle Pup from around 5,000 ft and they were extreme! I felt sick by the end and asked my instructor to fly the plane back to base.
@Saslow
@Saslow Год назад
We teach the acronym PARE. P: Power to idle, A: Ailerons neutral, R: Rudder full opposite direction from spin, E: Elevator down to break stall if necessary. Then gently recover by leveling the wings and slowly pulling out of the dive.
@thepianoman1010
@thepianoman1010 Год назад
@@Saslow Thanks, so, centralising the rudder pedals from full opposite rudder, not included? My recovery assumes power at idle already ... it is the recovery from a spin introduced by the instructor.

Needed to make one or two more turns to illustrate that the 150 spins so nose-low that you can actually see the spot where you'll hit the ground if you don't recover. If a 150 could get into a flat spin, you wouldn't be allowed to intentionally spin it.

This just popped up in my feed, even though it was posted nearly 2 years ago. It's good that you are getting a demonstration of a spin. I have talked to pilots who have flown for years, some professionally, who tell me they have NEVER spun an aircraft. Personally, I don't solo students unless they can explain the difference between a spiral dive and a spin, and can demonstrate getting into and out of each at will. You can see one of my students (a little girl, actually) spin a training glider at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-A9HkxhjAlnM.html. Best of luck with your future flying.

Just a quick question, can u do PPL on light sport aircraft in US? Or PPL on advanced ultralight in Canada?

Non pilot here: In what scenario would you inadvertently enter a spin? Wouldn’t you always be flying wings level and with correct angle of attack? Looks like you really have to go out of your way to stall/spin an aircraft.
@Saslow
@Saslow 4 месяца назад
It is required training for flight instructors (CFI) in training. Each CFI candidate must receive a spin training endorsement. This is so that all CFIs have experience recovering from a spin in the event a student makes a big mistake. Further, other pilots may elect to receive a spin endorsement. It is a very valuable skill in the event a spin is entered inadvertently. Different airplanes have different likelihood to spin in the event of an uncoordinated stall.

@@Saslow thank you for clarifying. I’m starting my PPL lessons soon. Seems like not all instructors will provide this training. Unless you ask? Seems like a critical skill to have, even at the PPL level.

Turning to the LEFT while you're "looking at something" but you have the top right rudder pushed in......slower and slower and then right wing stalls and goes into spin to the RIGHT!

Well done. I had to do it for my PPL flight test. And CPL, but in a PA28. It's all in the formula i.e.., CLHALFEROWVSQUAREDS

@stationmanager2567
@stationmanager2567 3 года назад
.@@chaudhrysuleman06Your quite right a PA28 is not approved for spinning.
@stationmanager2567
@stationmanager2567 3 года назад
@@chaudhrysuleman06 Australian,UK,Canada and New Zealand all CAA flight test you will get asked to spin the aircraft. The PA28 is the better of the bunch. There is so much to be learn from spin training. Trying to recover and stay within the VNE requires split second management. You see critical recovery speeds have to be learnt, high speed stalling is a BIG issue. When it comes to IFR flying , I would make the statement you need to be an expert in spin recovery to survive as a single pilot in Command. Spinning goes hand in glove with high speed stalling. They can't be separated. And of course we are now faced with redundancy.

CFI’s are required. Commercial pilots, no. Although I recommend all pilots to go out with a qualified CFI and do upset recovery training. It might save your life some day.
