For all those who complained about the lack of authenticity, the changes were necessary due to copyright laws preventing anyone from copying the original. They were seriously restrained by Gene Simmons to not violate make up, costume, etc. Copyright. A lot of lawyers involved.
As soon as I saw a different make-up style, I knew that KISS did not license the rights to the make for the movie, which is going to make this not sit well with most music fans, not just KISS fans since general music fans have no real idea about the history or behind the scenes legalities that go on with a band like KISS. I am surprised that they are able to use the KISS logo since I know so many unofficial items that are released do not use it for one reason or another.
@@TroyCorreia Are you serious ? There have been about 100 Documentaries via DVD and TV shows about how KISS operate..............every hard core and every casual fan knows.
Let's not venture to make risky appraisals, from what I have understood it is a film from the record label "Casablanca" and it is only an appearance of Kiss, in any case that segment is disastrous.
This clip does do a good job of showing the epic-ness of early Kiss. Thinking about Steven Tyler watching from back stage and getting pissed off about the show they're putting on.
What you said Tom!! They not only have any resemblance (ace was not that big) But the makeup isn't even close? Unless it's something where kiss are uninvolved and they can't use the makeup) . I don't think that's the case. They look like the worse kiss tribute ever !
@@graemespringer4643 I've been hearing that there was a lot of stonewalling from Gene on use of the makeup, so that makes sense. But still, none of these dudes look even remotely like their real-life counterparts. It's like 30 seconds of footage and they couldn't even get their stage moves down? I could probably do them all in my sleep.
@@MattyP19751 I agree. I saw it on TV when I was 3 or 4 years old. As chalked full of cheese as it is, it will always have a place in the KISS compartment of my heart.
Neil Bogart also appears in the HBO serie sadly cancelled called VYNIL , and also Gene used the Gibson Grabber extensively in that period of time not the Gibson G3
That is true. Paul used that Black and white Gibson Firebird. The Steven Tyler thing interesting. I like both bands and Joe Perry is really cool Steven does hate Kiss and was an asshole in 2003 with the coheadliner tour. Saw 2 shows Detroit Kiss kicked there ass people walked out on Aerosmith especially when they broke into Don't wanna miss a thing this was a longer show with Salvia and Ted nugent warm ups. Saw them in Grand rapids Michigan and Aerosmith won that night.
Okay, I'm going to pick this apart : This supposedly takes place BEFORE Bogart signed Kiss, which means,... the venue is about twenty times too large,.... the costumes are all wrong, Gene's makeup NEVER looked like that, The lit up KISS banner didnt exist, Rock and Roll All Night wasnt written yet {It was Bogart who told them they needed an anthem song, AFTER their first album was a dud} basically as far as continuity, EVERYTHING in this clip is WRONG,..... any actual Kiss fan will vomit when they see this in a theatre, I'm no longer a Kiss Fanatic nor am I a big fan of theirs anymore, but I am so fucking sick of these rock biopic butchering the facts and history of these people, Can we get just ONE biopic which actually tells the honest truth? The closest one was the Runaways, which almost got it right, dont even get me started in the completely butchery which was the Queen biopic, that thing was criminal
Pretty sure this is supposed to be cobo hall in 1976 when they were touring with aerosmith, so your points about the venue size, Kiss banner, and the song not being released are incorrect.
@@5ringdon Then explain how Bogart doesnt seem to yet know who Kiss is in the scene and how he's surprised at the kids wearing make up, becasue the scene is supposed to be taking place before they signed with Casablanca, I could be wrong, but thats how it appears.
@@5ringdon If it's COBO 76, then WTF is Neil doing there acting like he's seeing the band for the first time? Maybe there's context here we're not seeing yet, but this scene looks off in so many ways.
@@5ringdon Kiss had been headlining since late 74'. They never toured with Aerosmith in the early days. They did 2 shows with them in mid 74', and they were one-off shows. Rock and Roll All Nite wasn't played live until 75'.
2 of My GREATEST Experiences were Attending the Recordings of the "Kiss Alive" and Bob Seger's "Live Bullet" Concerts at Cobo Arena here in Detroit, I Couldn't Hear for a MONTH after the Kiss Concert, DAMN the 70's were a GREAT Time!!!!
The greatest KISS biopic ever, would be centered on the making of "KISS Meets The Phantom" with each member (including Bill Aucoin) having flashbacks to their origin story of joining/forming KISS.
Why? That sounds so by the numbers. The best KISS biopic would have to take a page from The Doors movie in terms of atmosphere, set design, and costume. And the storytelling style of Straight Outta Compton.
We need a shot-for-shot remake of KISS Meets The Phantom of the Park. Trust me on this one, it'll be epic. It'll be like Star Wars meets A Hard Day's Night!
You know what KISS achieved? It gave a voice to the down and out jewish kid, the Italian kid, and the kids from the dark corners of NYCs boroughs. A kid that basically didn't have a chance in his life of being great.
Shout It Out Loud, Rock and Roll All Nite and Beth sound so different from the original versions of themselves, but this is one awesome biographical movie!
This is ridiculous!! I just realized that this is supposed to be the dressed to kill tour. They were not playing stadiums They weren't even headlining arenas This is going to suck
I don’t know what the official rules are with Biopics but when I watch one and it’s about a band or a subject that I know I expect there to be accuracy and the amount of inaccuracy in that one clip is beyond reproach
Neil is going to see kiss for the first time when they’re already that big ,huge audience, kiss army fans outside,a somewhat hit song rock n roll ? He’s supposed to take a chance on the potential of them and then we see it pay off that’s the greatness of the story. This sucks big time .
There is nothing in this clip to indicate it's his first time seeing them. It does hint at the fact that he thinks they might become huge due to the look on his face. Now, we might see the move and realize they screwed up showing first impressions, but not according to this trailer.
So aside from the context of this scene ,not being able to get the rights to use their real makeup & Gene belching or something when he sticks out his tongue ,is lame they’re not the Sex Pistols lol and the whole cheesiness imo makes this look to me not as cool and bad ass as that situation really was ,but instead how the detractors/haters saw them ,as being reductive and laughable.
The inaccuracies in this clip alone are astounding. While it is true that Kiss originally had an inferior version of the make up when Neil Bogart discovered them, it looked nothing like this. Also, they showcased for him at a ballet studio. The live clip here, showing and the song rock ‘n’ roll all night is from 1975, around the third album. The inaccuracies are incredible. I’m sorry to say, it takes away from the credibility of the rest of the movie for me, even as a music fan in general. Pass.
The inaccuracies in your comment are astounding. This clip does not let us know what was going on besides an argument about what the headliner wants. Neil Bogart did not discover KISS. Bill Aucion came across them after Gene sent a letter inviting him to see them at the Hotel Diplomat, and then Aucoin brought the Eddie Kramer produced demo tape to Bogart with his co-manager Joyce. A ballet studio? You got a link for that because the Hotel Diplomat was not a ballet studio. Are you high?
I don’t think this is a scene of Bogart seeing Kiss for the first time. I think it may be the first show that he sees how big this band is becoming and it probably feeling a little relieved that it might help out with his debt. With that aside, this movie looks like crap in my opinion. If you can’t get permission to use Kiss’s make up, then don’t show them period. Remember that Michael Jackson “biopic” that couldn’t even play his music? That was an effing trainwreck. Not to mention, the actors look nor sound NOTHING like Gene, Paul, and Ace. I really hope Gene and Paul are taking notes of what NOT to do for their biopic.
The makeup pattern is different because the movie couldn't get the rights to use the real makeup pattern. So, it's not even trying to be the early version; but just different enough to the actual final makeup patterns to not get sued.
@@CincinnatusPublish sorry to burst your bubble, but the audition Kiss did for Bogart-the one that got them their record deal-was at LeTang’s ballet studio in Manhatten. I also said when BOGART discovered them…not when they were discovered by Aucoin. Two different showcases-two different ‘discoveries’. As far as I know. Bogart never attended the Diplomat show, only Aucoin-and yes, Gene sent him a fake-hype PRESS KIT and tickets to attend-not ‘a letter’. Bill went, was impressed, met with Gene and Paul later and promised the band a record deal in 2 weeks-then set up a showcase, especially for label people, at…you guessed it…A BALLET STUDIO. In fact, Doug Morris of Big Tree records (a division of Atlantic) was also at the Le Tang’s audition and passed on the band. As was producer Thom Werman-who also passed. And my comment about the make-up is that it WAS different when Neil first saw them. But this movie mixes up what KIND OF looks like early makeup with the established 1975 era look. In the very early days, Gene had what looked kind of like spiders around his eyes (and not for long) similar to what we see here…kind of. That was my only point. Oh, and another thing you got wrong-Kerner/Wise originally brought the Eddie Kramer demo to the attention of Neil, when he was just about to leave Buddah and form Casablanca. I believe it was Kerner who took a box of demoes home one weekend and heard Kiss, and then suggested it to Neil. And THEN Aucoin reached out to Bogart, due to his connection via the tv show FLIPSIDE which Aucoin produced/directed (it’s how he met Bogart as he was featured in an episode). Kerner and Wise were in house producers for Neil and in fact, DID produce Kiss’ first album.…. You’re not very good at this, are you? p.s. I’m not high…but apparently YOU are. And don’t challenge me on Kiss trivia, son…I’ll bury you.
Interesting that "Gene" is playing a Gibson bass, a Ripper, I think, but it's the wrong colour. I like that they researched enough to get make sure everyone was playing the right guitars, but they presumably couldn't get a black Ripper to use for that scene.
So.. Cool clip. I’m looking forward to seeing the movie, but does anyone else find it odd that they were able to use the lighted KISS logo but not the makeup?
@@chainsawteddybear I mean, I have more than enough proof of it but I also don’t need to prove anything to anybody!! This is one of his first times in a feature film production and if you look him up on youtube, you’ll see how talented he is so maybe we can cut him a break!!
@@luismaldonado4989 I don't see how that’s his fault? He was clearly chosen out of who knows how many auditioners because he has what the film creatives are looking for
@@chainsawteddybear Why wouldn't I just say that from the beginning if that was the truth? Like, I see no reason to even lie about it... But no, we’re not dating.
True. But it’s off to a bad start. Look at “Bill Aucoin’s” mustache. Straight from Dollar Tree. Also, they can’t even get KISS’s official make up to be in the movie. The green screen effects are crap. The audience is definitely not there. The casting PERIOD! is super off. In my opinion of course.
@@luismaldonado4989 oh yeah. It's cheesy. They don't even have a distributor. They are shopping it at Cannes Film Festival. I'm sure it will end up somewhere. But, probably not in movie theaters.
Clearly, the only actor here who did his best during homework time was would be Gene_ They went back to way early on this clip too, this was from the short period where Peter was still using the Invisible Man make up_ They knocked the stage out of the park though_ They can't all be winners, can they¿
Ace Frehley never wore his guitar that high. Plus, it's obvious that the actor never watched clips of Ace playing - he looks, acts and moves nothing like Ace.
If this is their version of KISS I'd hate to see what their version of the other music artists on Casablanca Records look like, because from what I heard the movie is about the whole record company, not just KISS. Lot of wild stuff at the office. Plenty of coke.
Because the cheesiness of it makes the greatness of kiss reductive and the story defeats it’s self . The greatness of the story is he took a risk on kiss before they made it cause he saw the potential and the pay off of the story is that he was right he got to see them go from obscure to household name. It sucks that this telling of the story is he comes to the party when they’re already happening. So that means they didn’t even need him and he didn’t take any chances. So what’s the point of the greatness of Neil ? Like I said it defeats itself.
But it doesn't look " amazing" that's why people are complaining! You have to understand KISS fans are the most hardcore music fans out there and we notice when things are not done right . All the moves are wrong , they look NOTHING like Kiss , the song sounds NOTHING like Kiss, and the actors playing the Casablanca staff look NOTHING like the people there portraying. Plus the timeline is all wrong. If you are going to go to the effort of spending millions on a film and tell a true story do it properly!
This clip was only made to try and sell the concept to film studios. It's not meant to be accurate at the beginning stages. It's only to show the potential for an actual production. So please KISS fans - relax.
Shout it out loud during a casablanca release party in '74? Not firehouse, nothin to lose, strutter, cold gin??? By the time shout it out loud hit in '76 kiss already saved casablanca from bankruptcy. That was a little embarrassing.
I’m not buying that Steven let somebody talk to him like that. I don’t doubt he threw a little diva fit, but he would have at least flipped Bogart off. Tyler’s small but he’s no pussy. There is a story about a knife fight between the two bands road crews, didn’t involve the bands themselves.
They neither look, act, nor sound like KISS at all. I guess it's hard to recreate a band perfectly, but still. Side note, back in the 70's it was still very seedy and dirty, not the bubble gum clown posse they look like now.
Well if they're going to make a movie that features a band that has an Army, they need to get it closer to perfect than that. In the late 70's as a kid I was a huge Kiss fan, I had a Kiss lunchbox, Trapper Keeper, and everything. They are going to have to do better than that to get support from Kiss fans.
It would've been better if they lip synced to a live version by KISS. Can't really pan the entire movie based on the cheese concert footage though, all the actors are solid and it's a compelling story so I'm sure it'll be worth watching.
