Harai Goshi is a popular Judo throw that can be used at all levels. This tutorial focuses on a competition variation of the technique called "Spinning" Harai Goshi, specifically for use against a same-sided opponent.
It's essential to know whether a technique is used against a same or opposite sided opponent when learning Judo techniques. Additionally, this tutorial demonstrates how to turn a disadvantageous position into a throwing opportunity.
For an example of what to do when Uke defends against this technique, take a look at the "O Uchi Gari - Competition Entry" tutorial. • O Uchi Gari - Competit...

This is Awesome Vince. A Senior boys now (11- 14 years old ) and now, forward, this will be a problem especially with tall and stronger lads. The shoulder roll and elbow adjustment followed immediately with the back step/spin (noted in your other vid), opens the point of entry to other throwing considerations that Judo Crusader ep4 may add if not the Harai goshi. Most of your vids have elements of Judo Crusader templates. Please leave any comments and advice that may help.

great video! It shows what lacks here on youtube, as well in my trainings the lefty vs right grip situations. Hence I am a left grip player, I feel not comfortable to do my judo against many right grip players, since often they are also stiff arming me away. I know this can be exploited with breaking posture, but I cannot really do my judo, tending to always strip away the right arm towards my right abdomen area, and go mostly for sumi gaeshi steups. This video helped me a great deal, thanks!

Really enjoyed that one lads. Great instruction and explanation. Do you make an attempt to push hips across for the finish or do they move there naturally with the turn?
@thejudocoach
@thejudocoach 6 лет назад
Rob Gregory thanks, hips must come across to finish the throw. If you don’t get your hips fully across you risk being countered. I will be uploading a video of what to do next if the opponent steps forward with the wrong leg (stopping you from getting full rotation). Thanks once again!

If you liked the Spinning Harai, I have uploaded a new video which looks at the same scenario but throwing with O Uchi Gari as they change their reaction. I hope find it useful: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4LvgtK4dpgg.html

What other throws can you get from this technique Tai Otoshi and O goshi come to mind anything else? Maybe an Osoto Gari?
@thejudocoach
@thejudocoach 5 лет назад
The key to remember with this movement, is you do not want to do techniques which require you to get your second hand on. This is really difficult in randori and competition as it is done at speed. A nice variation on this technique is when uke defends by stepping the back foot forward to jigotai and tori switches to O uchi gari. I do think it is important to get on the mat and try the techniques, I regularly try new things, some work and some don't. Explore and have fun.

Yes he was fine. The Uke’s used know what they’re doing. Luckily it makes what I’m showing look better.
